enna Ko, an eighth-grade student going to Seoul Foreign School in Korea, wants to become a veterinarian when she grows up because she loves animals and thinks they are cute.

She currently has no pets, although she does want a dog. Sadly, however, she thinks she won’t get one because her mother is scared of them. Ko’s favorite hobby is to listen to music. Specifically, she likes to listen to BTS, a Korean band. Her favorite food is watermelon.

come a little bit annoying at times. “I like him except when sometimes he becomes annoying,” Ko said. She has many Korean friends with similar personalities at her school where she gossips and talks about the news. Most people think of her as loud, weird and funny. However, she thinks of herself as a quiet and calm person. She loves social media so much that she spends about four hours a day using it. She has many friends – real and virtual. She has had a phone since first grade and a smartphone since fifth grade. The main reason for this was so that she could keep in touch with her parents if she ever got into a bad situation.

She plays the flute and she wishes to get better at the piano. “Well, I can play it [the piano],” she said, “but I kind of suck at it.”

Ko was born in Sacramento. She lived in Los Angeles for six years before moving to Korea. However, every summer vacation she comes to the U.S. At school her grades are above average and she isn’t socially awkward.

She has a playful, younger brother who she likes, but can also be-

he most interesting fact about Sujith Kumar Alluru, a 12-year-old classmate, was what his dream job was. He said that he wanted to become a software engineer when he grows up.

Alluru has many hobbies he enjoys when he has free time. “I like to play with my brother, play Fortnite and go swimming,” Alluru said. Another interesting is that he plays two instruments – the piano and the guitar. “I like to play guitar more, but I’m bad at it and I’m better at piano but I don’t like to play it as much as I like to play the guitar,” he said. Also, Alluru doesn’t have any social media accounts and he does not have a phone. He says that it’s because his parents don’t let him have any social media accounts. Alluru also goes to a school called Challenger School in Austin, Texas.

aren Wu is open about her political opinions. When asked if she was liberal, she replied, “yes, I consider myself fairly liberal.” She explained how she supports gay marriage, immigration reform, and how she believes abortion is a right. She elaborated on these opinions saying she is not the biggest fan of President Trump.

Wu’s favorite animal is a panda, she said, and elaborated on it, saying, “they’re cute, isn’t that why most people like them?” Her Instagram username is “karen_panda39”, and the profile picture is a cartoon panda.

Spain and Mexico are also places Wu has visited. Living in California, it is not difficult to go to Mexico, and Wu has taken advantage of that. Spain was especially interesting because she did not stay at a hotel, she slept at a family’s house. She went sightseeing around the country, and the most interesting part of the trip was visiting a mosque that was turned into a church.

High ideals By KAREN WU The Daily Miracle

A

fter the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Florida, Emily Flowers organized a 17-minute walkout at her school on April 20 in order to protest gun violence. It also happens that April 20 is the anniversary of the Columbine shooting in Colorado. She said that student protests have been effective in the fight to end gun violence. For example, about three weeks after the Stoneman Douglas shooting, Florida Gov. Rick Scott signed a law that raised the age limit for owning guns to 21. Flowers said that schools also need to speak up against gun violence. She said her “school didn’t even address anything after the [Stoneman Douglas] shooting.” Some might claim that walkouts are detrimental to education, but Flowers says that her walkout only took a short time and she still maintained her good grades. She also said that lockdown drills take just as much time as walkouts, if not more time. Furthermore, walkouts cause the school district to lose money, so they are more impactful than things such as T-shirts or armbands.

In regard to gun control, Flowers believes that while it is unfeasible for guns to be banned altogether, military-level guns should be banned and there should be stronger background checks. She believes that the writers of the Second Amendment didn’t intend for owning military guns such as automatic or semi-automatic weapons to be under the right to bear arms. Flowers says that she wants to be in a profession that deals with politics, but not necessarily be in the government, because she believes that it would leave less room for creativity. “I have a lot of interests,” Flowers said. “I want to incorporate them all into my job.” She’s not sure what exact type of work she would do, but she says “maybe writing about politics.” Flowers also says that having a podcast or a YouTube channel would be good. While Flowers has high ideals, she still has a good personal life. Flowers has gone to Iceland before because her father, a psychiatrist, had a conference there. She considers her older sister, Anna, to be her best friend. They do many things together, including playing Pokemon Go and watching TV.
