PRODUCT reviews Here at Gasoline we always look for products that our viewers would love to get their hands on. All products are hand-picked by the staff here at Gasoline Magazine, so if it’s in the magazine it has to be cool. If you have products you think should be in here, contact us and let us know.

The Original Jesse James America’s Outlaw Bourbon Whiskey Whiskey, it’s what all of us bikers live on… If you’re like us, we love drinking whiskey and we usually have our favorite, JD. A while ago we got our hands on some new whiskey; Jesse James America’s Outlaw Bourbon Whiskey created by Jesse James Dupree (Jackyl and Full Throttle Saloon on TruTV.) The whiskey is made in honor of the notorious and legendary American outlaw. The bourbon itself is aged for 3 months in American oak prior to bottling and is said to be made in accordance with what they claim are standards of the 18th century southern states. After having the first shot you’ll decide to have a second, and then a third, and before you know it you’ll have an empty bottle. Jesse James Whiskey tastes similar to JD but leaves a little more cash in your pockets to spend either on more whiskey, or a cab ride home. We recommend drinking it straight out of the bottle but Jesse James mixes well with all of your basic whiskey mixers as well. If you don’t know who Jesse James Dupree is, watch an episode of Full Throttle Saloon on TruTV and you’ll be caught up to speed. You can find Jesse James Whiskey and beer from the midwest all the way out to California. If you can’t find Jesse James Whiskey, check out www.jessejamesspirits.com or search for them on Facebook.

CELL BUCKLE™ Cell Phone Holder Cell phone, smart phone, whatever you have, CELL BUCKLE™ has a product to keep it safe while riding on your bike. The CELL BUCKLE™ allows riders to be alert, and hands free on your bike. Why do you want your cell phone on your bike? We thought the same thing. Sometimes it’s nice to just leave that damn thing in your pocket. Nowadays though with the way apps are being developed some builders are making their speedometer be on their phone or adding GPS to their bike. Maybe you want to stream episodes of Woody Woodpecker while riding. Whatever it is, CELL BUCKLE™ has created a product that holds your phone at high speeds and is hands free. If you think the CELL BUCKLE™ sounds familiar, they were on American Chopper on TLC this year and OCC built them a bike to promote their new product. If you are looking for one, you can order online or find an “As Seen on TV” infomercial. www.thecellbuckle.com

Anarchy Eyewear We get many things sent to us to try out. Some make the cut and some are tossed in the “not for our viewers” pile. Here are some sunglasses that came in the mail the other day. They made the “I’ll put these on my head” pile! Anarchy Eyewear sent out some sunglasses, these have; lightweight flexible Nylon frame material, a 5 barrel stop hinge, polarized lenses, 100% UV protection, and they are RXable if that’s what you need. Yeah, we got that from their website, so you want a true review? They fit perfect and don’t fog up when we’re out riding, and if they fly off at 80mph, I am only out 45 bucks. Not too bad! They have many different styles and like I said, for the price, it can’t hurt to try some out. I’m sure you will like them. www.anarchyeyewear.com

Lowbrow Customs Shock Mount License Plate Bracket Here is a new way to mount that blasted ol’ license plate. Do you have a Sportster or Dyna with shocks? Maybe one of those British or Japanese bikes? Whatever bike you have, Lowbrow Customs offers a universal license plate bracket that bolts on to your rear shock suspension. They are designed to fit ANY shock on the market. The super easy bolt-on design mounts to any lower 1/2” shock bolt and works on the left or right side of the bike. The mount features TIG welded fabrication and is finished in black powdercoat. The polished stainless steel 12V Duolamp taillight also features a clear license plate light, and a chrome license plate frame and mounting hardware is included. The light is D.O.T approved and is a dual filament so it works as your running and brake light. Sometimes you just don’t want a chunky taillight cluttering up your rear fender. Drop it off to the side and stay both safe AND legal. Neat! www.lowbrowcustoms.com

Well, it’s been 7 months since you last heard from us, and I’ve been on the computer the entire time. Lots and lots of Tweets, Facebooking, eBaying, etc, etc. We managed to pick up a new shop decoration off eBay for ourselves here at Gasoline. Tell me how many of you own a potato chip that bears a striking resemblance to 23rd President Benjamin Harrison riding a motorcycle? No? Well we have one! There will be a full feature on that in an upcoming issue though. In addition to such treasures, I’ve found all sorts of new blog attractions that I will be sharing with you lucky readers at some point! This month’s feature blog isn’t a new discovery however. The Selvedge Yard is a blog I actually stumbled upon 2 or 3 years ago now. I used to check nearly everyday for new posts and then somehow just lost track of it at some point within the last year. When I recently rediscovered it, I was taken in just as I was the first time. Creator Jon Patrick is a GQ contributor and menswear aficionado, which is somewhat apparent as the word “selvedge” refers to a type of denim commonly used in jeans. Jon is also a master at capturing and featuring the vintage motorcycle/car/ Hollywood style that interests many of us.

But I’m not all old school all the time– I appreciate innovation & technology in all things. Today’s innovators give us tomorrow’s timeless classics.” You’ll be hooked once you check this link out. NATIONAL MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS By Janet Frost

May is National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. ABATE of North Dakota, proud sponsor of the North Dakota Motorcycle Safety Program, is reminding motorists there will be an increase in motorcycles on the roadways as the warmer weather returns. It is also a great time to remind motocyclists to ride trained and to ride with care. The North Dakota Motorcycle Safety Program (NDMSP) has found that the curriculum provided by Motorcycle Safety Foundation is prefect for training people the basics of riding for all ages and experience levels. The Basic Rider Course (BRC) is great for beginner riders and for those that want a “refresher” course. If you are a seasoned rider and would like to challenge your skills, then the Experienced Rider Course is the class for you. The NDMSP is in full gear, training 7 days a week in Bismarck, Fargo, Grand Forks and Minot. We offer several mobile units that train across North Dakota. Please go to www.ndmsp.com for more information and to register for a class. The life you save, could be your own.

Last year, approximately 1,700 students were trained through the North Dakota Motorcycle Safety Program. Sponsored by ABATE of ND and the North Dakota Department of Transportation.

Spring into a bike show!

By Chad Hatzenbuhler Photo Credit: Chad Hatzenbuhler

It’s the time of year that motorcycle clubs start having their annual bike shows. The temperature starts to get a little warmer and we are all itching to get out and ride. This year in North Dakota it has been a little different for us local folk. Temperatures have been in the upper 40s and we have been able to ride almost every month this winter. A few weeks ago the Gasoline Mag crew went to the first bike show of the season in Minot, North Dakota. The Ramblers MC held their bike show this spring and the motorcycle gods were looking down on us bikers. Once noon hit on Saturday, the bikes started to roll in one by one. The Ramblers put on one hell of a show, with over 60 bikes you didn’t get bored walking through. Maybe even better than the show was being able to walk around outside as the 70 degree sun beat down. There were hundreds of bikes parked in the lot as the owners were outside enjoying a day of riding and supporting the local bike show. We did pick out a few bikes from the show and you might see them in the mag this year. A week later we attended our hometown bike show that the Freedom Riders MC puts on every year at the Ramkota Hotel. Lots of people made their way out for the 32nd annual event. The bikes were bikes, there were some different bikes but none that shouted “awesome” at us. It would be nice to see more custom bikes and not stock, showroom bikes that people just purchased at the dealership. We decided to check outside to see what kinda bikes were parked out there. Sometimes you find neater stuff outside than you do inside. We did end up taking one or two bikes out of the show and snapped some photos. In the end, the show had a great turn out and it seemed like the public had a great time looking at the bikes. To us, that’s better than nothing. Maybe next year we can start seeing some motorcycles with more soul and less chrome. Hopefully the nice weather will be sticking around and summer will be here before we know it. Take a look at some snap shots and than go riding and drinking some ice cold beers! No. 12

BARN FIND By Chad Hatzenbuhler

When you hear the word “Ironhead”, bikers get that little shiver down their necks. The Harley-Davidson Sportster Ironhead has a bad rap in the motorcycle world and most bikers don’t want to even deal with them...

www.gasolinemag.com

No. 19

Harley-Davidson started producing the Ironhead in 1958, but the basket cases started showing up after 1969 when American Machine and Foundry (AMF) purchased Harley-Davidson. AMF started cutting corners and quality control bombed. We could go on and on about the history of the Ironhead, and maybe someday we will, but that’s another article. For now, even though Ironheads are unwanted bikes, you need to check out this ”barn find” Ironhead that was brought back to life 40 years later. Josh Cole and his dad found two Ironheads in an old barn. The bikes were in pieces and the owner wanted to sell ‘em for $1,500. Josh kinda wanted the bikes, but he didn’t want to spend $1500 on a pile of parts, and he didn’t really have the time to mess with them either. A few months went by and Josh’s schedule opened up, so Josh and his dad went back and offered $500.00 for the pair and loaded them into a trailer. Now, before you think that was a steal, you have to remember these bikes were torn down and barley resembled a motorcycle that was ready to ride. Now with two motorcycles in the garage; a ’73 and ’76 Ironhead – it was time to start working. Starting with the engines, Josh worked on getting one of them

running again. With a lot of help from Jim Rick of V-twin in Minot, the 1000cc Ironhead was brought back to life. Josh didn’t want to restore the Ironhead back to original, so he started out by buying a new frame from Led Sled. He started building the rest of the bike trying to use as many original parts as he could. He kept the ’73 forks, AMF gas tank with original paint and wear and tear (dents), headlight, and other parts here and there. Some parts needed to be fabricated or purchased from our trustworthy local chopper shops. Josh also went searching around friends’ garages to grab some freebies and went online to grab other parts.

TECH corner By Nate Rogers, Scooter Shak

This month Nate Rogers from Scooter Shak brings you another tech story that will get the veins pumping. “When too much is not quite enough.” This is Mike’s problem when it comes to performance motorcycles. Mike, a local Mandan resident, has had a few quick motorcycles in his years of riding; including a V-Max and a turbo Vrod. Despite those bikes, he still had the itch to get back to the more traditional American V-twin. Fast forward a few years and he came across a 2007 Screaming Eagle Dyna. As you probably already know, this bike came stock with a 110” engine that did not quite meet his standards. When the motor company introduced the 120R motor, Mike was one of the first guys in the area to have one. And of course the 120R motor that was put in his bike was “massaged” a bit from the norm. Mike’s 120R made a fair 135HP and 135 foot pounds, not too bad for a bolt in package. For the normal rider this engine would have been plenty quick enough for years to come, but not Mike. One season on this configuration started to give Mike the yawn effect while riding it.

No. 26

Fuel Your Veins.™

This part of the story is where I come into play. Last fall Mike stopped by the shop and noticed a few parts on my bench and was quick to inquire what it was. I gave him the old “nothing to see here” story. It turned out to be a supercharger that was going on another guy’s bike. Well, just guess what happened next?? 10 pounds of boost and 6250rpm later the bike made 179hp and 162 foot lbs, a respectable gain for a days worth of work and another half a day in the dyno room. As far as the system itself, it’s made by Accessible Technologies aka PROCHARGER from Lenexa, KS. Every system comes with an intercooler and fuel injectors that will handle over 200 horsepower. This is not a fly by the seat of your pants system, everything minus a clutch and fuel programmer is included in the system. Accessible Technologies has been in the automotive world for years and has done their homework when it comes to the American V-Twin industry, so reliability is not an issue and a 3 year warranty is also available for $49 bucks. Oh yeah, and for the record, Mike and myself rode it after I tuned it and the motor spools up so fast at wide open throttle it’s a real challenge to keep it off the rev limiter. LOTS-O-FUN to ride!! When is too much is not quite enough?? Like I said before, I don’t think we will stop until we hit the 200hp mark…
