We design, craft and distribute top quality oriental tableware for households and businesses worldwide. Our established brand Tokyo Design Studio is inspired by Japanese culture and praised for its refined contemporary designs and high-quality standards.

With design teams located in both The Netherlands and Japan we aim to create a unique and constantly evolving signature. Respecting centuries of porcelain and pottery heritage, we constantly look for unexpected perspectives that help us create the tableware of today and tomorrow.

Our products are authentic by nature. Predominantly made in Japan by artisanal methods perfected over 400 years. Our pad-printed products are baked twice, then decorated one color at a time, glazed, and baked again. Throughout the process a meticulous quality control is applied, making sure each product is of the highest quality.

SEIGAIHA

In a rich indigo on crisp white, the Seigaiha collection features beautifully detailed waves in a striking pattern. They are the traditional lucky motif in Japanese symbolism, representative of the boundless ocean, the flow of energy and good fortune. Like the other ‘fine patterns’, Burashi and Fleur the Ligne, Seigaiha pieces are made from high quality Japanese porcelain with an elegant matte finish.

FLORA JAPONICA

The Flora Japonica collection is inspired by Dutch botanists bringing back new plant species from Japan, centuries ago. It is all about exploring and admiring Japanese flora. National treasures like the fine-leaved maple, the heartshaped katsura, pretty white pine trees and one of the oldest trees on earth, the ginkgo biloba, have found a place in our collection. Amidst these wonderful trees you’ll find another Japanese phenomenon: the dancing cranes. Do you share our love for Japanese nature?

With Tokyo Design Studio we celebrate cross-cultural collaborations of the past and add a new chapter by giving a unique European twist to traditional Japanese pattern and tableware design.

After the first biscuit bake the products are decorated with the underglaze printing process, then glazed and baked a second time. CAST IRON TEA KETTLE

Originally created in Ancient China, the cast iron teapot has become a widely-known traditional Japanese artefact as more people are now drinking loose teas. RETURNS

Please contact us before returning any items, so that we may assist you. Merchandise can only be returned if it’s in its original packing and condition. If, upon return, items are found to be damaged, they will not be accepted or credited.

Product maintenance

PORCELAIN

Most of our porcelain is suitable for use in (industrial) dishwashers, microwaves and ovens. Gold decorated items are not suitable for microwave use, due to aggressive rinse and temperatures in dishwashers, golden decorated products are recommend to wash by hand. It is important that you follow the guidelines issued by dishwasher manufacturers. Excessive rinse temperatures and overdosing of washing agents may damage the glaze. Most damage occurs during loading and unloading a dishwasher. Preferably use special dishwasher baskets (racks) that prevent contact with other porcelain items during the wash cycle and at loading/unloading.

When removing food residues beforehand, use a plastic scraper to prevent damage to the glaze. Never use metal objects or cutlery for this.

STONE & EARTHENWARE

Most of our Stone & Earthenware is suitable for use in (industrial) dishwashers and microwaves, oven use is not recommend as the is a chance of breakage due to temperature shock. It is important that you follow the guidelines issued by dishwasher manufacturers. Excessive rinse temperatures and overdosing of washing agents may damage the glaze. Most damage occurs during loading and unloading a dishwasher. Preferably use special dishwasher baskets (racks) that prevent contact with other porcelain items during the wash cycle and at loading/unloading.

WOOD & BAMBOO

Wooden items are not suited to use in an (industrial) dishwasher. The surface of the product can be maintained by regularly rubbing it with vegetable oil.

Wooden items must be washed in warm soapy water and then dried directly.

Wood & Bamboo is a natural product and will show wear and tear after a period of use.

GLASS

All glasses may be washed in an (industrial) dishwasher. We advise using dishwasher baskets to minimise breakages during the washing cycle and to use a non-caustic cleaning agent when washing the glasses. This is because caustic cleaning agents can damage the surface of the glasses and turn them dull. Always wash new glasses first before initial use. Never wash glasses at temperatures above 60 degrees. Higher temperatures can cause dirt to become baked onto the glass.

Never pour cold liquids into a hot glass as this can cause the glass to shatter. It is also advisable to gently prime a glass with hot water before pouring hot liquid into it.

MELAMINE

Melamine may be washed in an (industrial) dishwasher. Do not use any scouring agents, bleaches, scouring pads or metal objects to clean melamine, as this will leave scratches on the melamine. Melamine is not suitable for use in the oven or microwave. Melamine products are suitable for use in a bain-marie or chafing dish. When using melamine in chafing dishes, it is important that you pour sufficient water into the container.

Our melamine products are inspected and tested and approved food safe. Usage temperatures between -20 and 70 degrees.
