01 HYPERTHREADS 2011

Hyper threads 2011 was a visiting school held by ARCHITECTURAL ASSOCIATION SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE LONDON. It was held in bangalore and a canopy was constructed on site with help of tutors from the institution. Other than real construction students were divided into groups of four and we investigated the design process using advance softwares such as Rhino 3d, Maya and algor. Fabrication details were derived using Grasshopper scripting. During this digital exploration we progressed through several stages. These stages included

Understanding Topology

understanding typology, physical explorations through models, deriving geometry from polygonal modelling in Maya, dynamic relaxation, structural analysis through Algor and then finally deriving assembly parts details for fabrication through grasshopper.

02 DIGITAL EXPLORATIONS........ Digital Explorations is my favouraite hobbie in which I do explore new softwares through online tutorials and books and try them to develop new understanding for forms, surfaces and structure. This example is an attempt to learn morphing technique in Grasshopper 3d Program. A grasshopper definition is formed which is diplayed in the top picture. It takes two curves and a geometry as input and then outputs the surface, divided with geometry modules to form screens. Through this parametric technique any geometry

can be applied to a lofted surface to produce as many iterations as we want.

ABOVEGRASSHOPPER DEFINITION, MIDDLE- GEOMETRIC PANEL AS GEOMETRY, TOWER WITH GEOMETRIC MODULE, SCREEN WITH SAME MODULE BOTTOM- SCREEN WITH GEOMETRIC MODULE, SCREEN WITH CIRCULAR MODULE

02 DIGITAL EXPLORATIONS........ The Above Grasshopper program was formulated to understand generation of parametric 3D point Grid along with concept of Data Matching. In above program through online tutorial I learned to Modify sphere’s radius relative to a point’s position in 3D space. The nearer a point is the smaller will be the radius of sphere generated. Each sphere will be populated onto 3d point grid generated

using Move command and with help of series of numbers generated though series component of Grasshopper. All pictures other than grasshopper Definition represent different iterations which were produced by shifting position of a associated point in 3D space.

02 DIGITAL EXPLORATIONS........ The above Grasshopper script was written to understand division component in grasshopper and also to create iterations of a curved space frame which was to be integrated into a project later. The above script takes a curve as an input and gives a output as curved spaceframe. This spaceframe is parametric and can be modified in terms of number of horizontal members, thickness of horizontal members and width of spaceframe by sliding number bars in the script.

TOP - GRASSHOPPER DEFINITION MIDDLE - SAMPLE INPUT CURVE, OUPUT FROM CURVE BOTTOM - OTHER ITERATIONS PRODUCED BY ALTERING PARAMETRIC VARIABLES.

02 DIGITAL EXPLORATIONS........ In this example a script was written to convert a lofted surface into a mesh of diagonal members. On associating a lofted surface with this script , the surface is divided into set of subsurfaces and then vertex of each surface is extracted. After this diagonal lines are generated and

piped to form diagonal members. All images on this page are outputs which were generated on inputting different lofted surface. One sample lofted surface is shown below Grasshopper definition.

02 DIGITAL EXPLORATIONS........ A SCREEN DESIGN MADE USING RHINO PANELLING TOOLS. THREE MODULES WERE DESIGNED BY ME AND THEN BASED ON POINT ATTRACTORS CONCEPT ALL THREE MODULED WERE APLLIED ON SCREEN SURFACE RELATIVE TO DISTANCE OF ASSOCIATED POINT.

ABOVE IS AN EXAMPLE OF A LAMP DESIGN WHICH I DESIGNED AFTER LEARNING FORM FINDING TECHNIQUES IN AUTODESK MAYA. AFTER FINDING FORM BY POLYGONAL OPERATIONS AND SMOOTH MESH PREVIEWS IN MAYA, DYNAMIC RELAXATION WAS DONE TO SIMULATE CLOTH IN THAT FORM. AT LAST LAMP WAS RENDERED IN CONTEXT OF A ROOM.

03 RHINO 3D ONLINE WORKSHOP 2011 THE ABOVE IMAGES ARE PART OF 9 DAY ONLINE WORKSHOP BY MC-NEEL COMPANY FOR TEACHING RHINO BASICS. THE FIRST IMAGE IS A CHAIR DONE IN RHINO THROUGH EDGE SURFACES, THEN A DUCK TOY WAS MODELLED TO LEARN FREEFORM MODELLING IN RHINO. REST OF THE IMAGES ARE AN ATTEMT TO APPLY MODULES ONTO SURFACES FOR ARCHITECTURAL PURPOSES.

04 THESIS 2011: GREEN ENGINEERING COLLEGE CAMPUS

Engineering college at ghaziabad is a proposed project in govindpuram. the campus site located in between agricultural lands have potential of views and green enviornment around which can induce feeling of a campus. Many engineering colleges are being opened today in up but the concept of this thesis evolves from a principle of cool dense air which settles in sunken

grounds of site. Then this air could be sent to building blocks through air tunnels to keep internal enviornment cool. Therefore a court which would act as spill out space was created and buildings were knit around it to integrate it as part of campus with various activities.the functions are placed with certain logic of views and movement to felicitate students and users.

campus housing project was an attempt to visualize an enviornment in which housing can be provided to Faculty members in Amity. After a long Hectic day faculty would like to travel less and experience a change of enviornment which reflects cheerfulness and soft tones of nature harmonically integrated with buildings which would house them. For this reason concept of courts with green landcaped areas was considered

to foster social interaction and feeling of security in environment. All courts were created with G+4 buildings around. Both the courts were worked out on proportions which helped a person to relate to surroundings and scale of build environment. It connected people visually to give a sense of tranquility of the spaces informed alongwith architectural character of buildings and landscape to release anxiety and stress.

of sector 18 Market Noida was a studio in continuation of urban design to learn essentials of landscaping of streets to make it more user friendly, interactive to humans and for fostering positive outdoor space which can be used for resting while shopping or to grab a bite of food in between busy market. Main concept of this design was to regulate whole market’s traffic by making this street pedestrian. Other than this attempt was made to reduce visual pollution

due to unorderly placement of signboards and exposed hvac units. Therefore Landcape elements were used to hide these necessary revelation of buildings. Sitting Spaces and plantations are used to regulate movement of the street. 08 DISSERTATION RESEARCH WORKFLOW IN DIGITAL ARCHITECTURE A

AIM OF RESEARCH To trace and establish the current trends in architectural workflow through Digital architecture. OBJECTIVES -Study designing process from conceptual to construction stage in digital architecture. -Study different techniques used for complex form generation and their production through digital architecture. -To compare workflow of lotus temple construction to with current digital workflow. LIMITATIONS -As not many buildings are constructed entirely with help of digital architecture in India case examples located outside India are studied from secondary sources. FOCUS IN WORKFLOW IS ON FORM AND PRODUCTION. -no focus on technical details of softwares and machines used.

DIGITAL ARCHITECTURE‌ Process of performing architectural tasks by taking help of new innovations in technology, machines and softwares designed for specific architectural needs is called Digital Architecture .

Above -ARCHITECTURAL WORKFLOW‌ Process of building design to production on site. Many case examples were studied to carry reaseach my toic of which London city hall Was one of the examples. The workflow of how form of the building was derived was studied along with rationalization of doubly curved glass panels and thier installations on site.

Louts Temple Digital Way -As seen in case example of London city hall, whole building was constructed using digital tools according to suitable digital workflow from start to end, if we compare its construction time with lotus temple which was constructed without using digital technology construction time of lotus temple is more.

09 PROFESSIONAL WORKS Prem Nath Industries was a project

for a manufacturing and packaging industry located in urban area of uttar pradesh India. The program included an Administrative block along with manufacturing and packaging shed. Design was concieved as two zones seperated through a simple wall. Industry design is simple, yet speaks modern language represented though purity of circular and rectangular architectural components to give it a noticable character. No modern materials were used instead of bricks and glass to make it cost effective as per clients need. I handled this project independently and started with concept development. After conept and zoning of areas alongwith site vehicular and pedestrian movement, form was decided and final pans and elevations were prepared by me.

Industrial Area of Uttar Pradesh. This project has been taken by me as principle Architect and is in conceptual stage. Currently project’s working drawings are in progress. The project includes Extension of existing Administrative Building to accomodate Administrative staff into a modern office environment. The building is designed to match context of site with working shed and other activites happening in conjunction with administrative activities. As administrative block is symbol of company’s profile, building is designed to be symbolic yet simple to match adjacent structures on and around the site.

An elevational band on building runs from each face to integrate old and new construction and provide distinct statement to building’s facade.
