“Design with resilience. A building that transforms into a building of different functional use, in the span of 30 years. The site was situated in the CBD (Central Business District) area of the city of Shanghai, China. To decide on the current functional use of the building, real estate trends along with population trends were studied for the city. As per the current real estate scenario in Shanghai, where investing in office sector is much profitable, the building was designed as an office building with a small fraction of service apartments for current functional use. Commercial areas are also to be introduced at the lower floors since leisure and retail habits are becoming inseparable and symbiotic with the stressed work culture. The building design is to be resilient in nature, so to transforms the building functional use from office to residential, with minimum alteration in the building. Structure, M&E, space planning of the building shall cater to both functional use and shall be interchangeable. 7
