InsigniďŹ cant Programmatic Hierarchy Programmatic hierarchy on-site refers to interaction between site activities whereas the parallel path studies refer to the analysis of the three parallel paths which includes walkway along riverbank, Central Market and Kasturi Walk. Based on observation, the parallel programmatic actions are not interactive and cause muted relationship between them.

Unsatisfactory Physical Spatial Sequence The movement pattern on-site is restrictive. The parallel movement pattern is pivotal and inuences spatial syntax on-site. It anchors the urban walkers to merely meander along the established parallel pattern even though the perpendicular movement which is more authentic and theatrical.

The cultural node that is being emphasized here is Central Market as it is located closest to Site A. Human nodes are being dispersed at positive outdoor urban environment including Kasturi Walk. The meanings of symbols have been altered and forgotten and the stories behind it are being reinterpreted. The original Central Market legibility has been lost on today’s audience as it is being overweight by Kasturi Walk.

on-site
Due to the organic growth of the local community demand and pressure from social and economic aspect, the existing movement pattern is deficient in experience and poetics. Convex spaces fail to be established by actions.

Diagram 9 Local Art Interventions being away from movement pattern
Back alley, where it is located away from existing movement pattern at shopfront, acts as a functional communal space where locals gather and mingle due to the intimacy level given by the characters.
In annexe Central Market, the interactive art interventions take place on the first floor whereas ground floor with the highest intensity of human traffic is being saturated with commercialised food stalls due to economical pressure.

PROTOCOL Relationship between the explicit action and implicit action of a space is being evaluated and synthesized.
Exploration Synthesis Engagement between actions, movement, character and space would occur within a space with high social sustainability. (Porta and Renne, 2002) A socially sustainable space is able to contain and engage with urban walkers where actions, movement happen organically within the site characters and space. There are three attributes in order for a space to achieve social sustainability.

Comparison between Masjid Jamek Lookout Point and Kasturi Walk
1. Directional Attribute
2. Locational Attribute
It is referring to the horizontal axis a plane user standing on, the x-axis and y-axis. The quality for an urbanscape to be ďŹ ne-grain would intensiďŹ es the social potential of a space by providing visual directness of movement to users.
It is referring to the vertical axis, the z-axis and the degree of facade continuity as well as sky exposure. It introduces urban walkers the ability to locate themselves within an urban environment by equipping them sense of orientation.
3. Volatility Attribute It is regulated by transparency and transitional aspect. Transparency refers to the amount of openings that allow view whereas transitional aspect depends on entry, verandah, shelter, etc. that located between two different realms.

DESIGN NARRATIVE “If the edge fails, then the space never become lively.” (Christopher A., A Pattern Language). Activities expand from junctions towards edge, then towards the middle. The prominence of junctions predetermine the social resilience of a space. The Cultural Experience Centre (CEC.) proposal is intended to be a junction which is highly socially sustainable. Functioning as an Urban Park which is able to sustain urban walkers with its enormous sense of livability and intimacy, it is able to encourage participation of community through engagement between action, movement, character and space.
Cultural Experience Centre As An Engaging Junction The three pivotal parallel paths would be extended into the Cultural Experience Centre. The design strategy proposal would be emphasizing on methodologies to establish sensuous sequential experience from the existing on-site parallel paths, into the centre and further into spaces. The spatial relationship between site characters and centre would be established into four phases, which includes action at junction, action along edge, action between space and action into space.
Centre Functional Programmes As Implicit Actions towards The Site Explicit Actions The Cultural Experience Centre programmatic actions would aim to create dialogue between the targeted community, which includes Empathetic Insider, Incidental Outside and Objective Outsider. The proposed programmes would stimulates a collective consensus knowledge of the on-site culture among the users through the interaction and expressions of the Local Art and Craft Culture. “Historic places are rife with characters of infamy and legend, remembered by prose, song, and art.”. (Sircus, J., 2001, Invented Places) Participation makes the stories accessible and forges the centre into a collective memory whereby it acts as the symbolical reconstruction of their social memory, local arts and crafts. By stimulating participations of site characters into the functional spaces within Cultural Experience Centre via action and movement, the ancient energies of the culture are awakened and the echoes of time past are able to resonate in its old vibration that is brought back alive, and it is what that connect us as a living being and defines our cultures.

PRECEDENT STUDIES Spatial Layout and Relationship Dongdaemun Design Plaza Architect : Zaha Hadid Architects Location : Dongdaemun, Korea Area : 89574sqm Year : 2014 Introduction The DDP has been designed as a cultural hub at the centre of Dongdaemun, a historic district of Seoul that is now renowned for its 24-hour shopping and cafes. DDP is a place for people of all ages; a catalyst for the instigation and exchange of ideas. The variety of public spaces within DDP include Exhibition Halls, Convention Halls, Design Museum, Library, Lab and Archives, Children's Education Centre, Media Centre, Seminar Rooms and Sky Lounge; enabling DDP to present the widest diversity of exhibitions and events that feed the cultural vitality of the city.
Metonymic Landscape DDP is positioned in ‘Metonymic landscape’ as a space-linking park
by
reinterpreting the spatial concepts of traditional Korean garden design: layering, horizontality, blurring the relationship between the interior and the exterior.
