PASS Be Mine Thursday, February 11, PASS parents joined their children at WCES to celebrate Valentine's Day. Parents met in the Media Center to hear from Wendy Howard of DFACS talk about the need for more Foster Parents in Wilcox Co. Anna Bagley shared a wealth of information about Safe Sleep for babies. Parents were very interested to hear the recommendations on keeping our children as safe as possible. PASS Be Mine continued with parents, students and staff coming together for the remainder of the program held in the WCES cafeteria. Kayla Rhodes, WCES music teacher led Third & Fifth Graders as they performed several musical selections. As our Valentine theme continued, 2 guest speakers spoke about the heart. Brent Gibbs from the Wilcox County Health Department, spoke about the physical heart and how to keep it healthy. We should eat a balanced diet that includes a variety of fruits and vegetables. Drinking plenty of water and exercising daily are also critical components of maintaining a healthy heart. Pastor Jonathan Brown of Abbeville United Methodist Church spoke about the emotional heart. He encouraged the students to engage in activities they enjoy and those that make them happy. It is also important to be helpful to others. This promotes good self-esteem and demonstrates love for our neighbor. We should be encouragers knowing that everyone needs uplifting from time to time. After his presentation, Pastor Brown blessed the evening meal and everyone enjoyed a delicious Subway dinner provided by our local Subway. Door Prizes were awarded and everyone was dismissed for the winter break.
