The purpose of this $500.00 scholarship is to recognize former active Wilcox County 4-H'ers. Applicants must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college or vocational technical school and must have completed at least one year of 4-H club work. Heartsaver First Aid, CPR and AED Offered at Wiregrass Fitzgerald, GA— Wiregrass Georgia Technical College will be holding an American Heart Association certification for first responders in the community or workplace on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Develop skills to effectively assess and maintain life from the critical minutes immediately following an emergency until the arrival of emergency medical services personnel. The course covers Adult First Aid, CPR and AED. A two-year certification card is awarded at completion. The cost is $55. PASS participates in the Block Party sponsored by Wilcox County Schools On Friday April 22, the PASS April Family Engagement was held in conjunction with the Wilcox County School System Block Party. Family coordinator Matthew Hall headed up the event. Due to the threat of rain, activities were moved to the WC Middle School Gymnasium and the adjoining chorus room. The community was well represented with many tables of games, and prizes for the children. Faculty from the 3 schools sponsored many exciting activities for the families. The High School Chorus and WCES music classes entertained the crowds with musical selections. A Karaoke Station was available for those brave enough to share their talents. Several administrators experienced the Dunking Booth, getting soaked in the process! Churches were represented including Union Baptist and Rochelle Methodist. RUM sponsored a spaghetti supper for a small fee. The Christian Learning Center shared the Bible based programs they offer for Elementary, Middle and High school ages. Candidates for public office were on hand to meet the crowd and solicit support. They handed out information and provided give-a-ways to the group. PASS provided an information table with handouts for parents and families. Everyone who stopped by received cookies and the opportunity to play a guessing game. A big jar full of Lemonheads sat on the table inviting people to “Guess How Many? Though many tried, Briana Sampson, a kindergartener at Wilcox Elementary won the contest. Door Prizes were given out to PASS parents as they stopped by and completed a survey. The community filled the gym to overflowing with lots of activity, fun and fellowship. This first Block Party for Wilcox County Schools was a big success with over 450 family members attending.

Valedictorian and Salutatorian speak to PASS Students During a recent assembly, Wilcox County Valedictorian and STAR student, Robert McGuinty and Salutatorian, Ana Claire Gordon spoke to the PASS students about good study habits. The school system will be taking the Georgia Milestone Standardized Tests April 27-May 5. PASS teachers have been working with students to prepare them for these tests and Robert and Ana Claire were on hand to give them encouragement and share experiences about their own personal success. Ana Claire advised the audience to get a good night's sleep and eat a good breakfast each morning. First WHS Class of 1966 Has 50th Reunion WHS Class of 1966 met April 23 ind First Baptist of Rochelle’s Fellowship Hall. A delicious meal was enjoyed by all as Gay’s Seafood served a buffet. There was a total of 80 people to enjoy the evening. There were 5 teachers, forty-seven classmates and 28 other guest. Alex Clements played music and sang songs from the middle 60’s. Wilcox County 4H Poultry Judging Team competes at Area Match There were 15 Juniors and 2 Seniors traveling to Tifton for Area Poultry Judging competition in mid-April. The Junior team placed third overall out of 15 teams. The seniors went into competition as individuals and placed 16th and 36th out of 55 competitors. We had a very young team for the Juniors and the 3rd place win was just what we needed! In poultry judging there are 8 sections or areas of study. They are: Live Birds, Live Birds Reasons, Broken Out Eggs, Exterior Egg Quality, Parts Identification, Candling, Ready to Cook, and a written Test. The team members are 5th graders and go through 8th graders for the Junior competition. The Senior team or individual members are 9th through 12th graders. We begin study in early January preparing for the area competition which is held in mid-April. The Senior Team placing first will advance on to state competition in Athens. Junior Team members are: Graham Bennett, Emma Culpepper, Mixie Denniston, Noah Gibbs, Ravyn Hodges, Amanda Hollingsworth, Emma McBryant, Grady McBryant, Riley McKinney, Sain McKinney, Carlee Sercer, Mayson Smith, Lori Sutton, Shawn Sutton, and Kaleigh Walls. The 2 Senior Individuals are Katie Caruso and Willie Townsend.
Very proud of all these 4-H'ers!
