Raising Awareness for Alzheimer’s Foundation On Friday, April 22, 2016, the Wilcox County school system is sponsoring a community block party. The Wilcox County Tri-M Honor Society is collaborating with this event to raise awareness for their community project this year which is the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Our region representative for the Alzheimer’s Foundation of Georgia will have a table on display with information. The Tri-M will be hosting several activities where all proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. The Rochelle United Methodist Church has partnered and agreed to provide and serve food (spaghetti, salad, bread, cake and drink) for $5.00. A place to eat and be served will be provided by the Tri-M. This event will end with the selling of paper lanterns which will be lit and released in memory or honor of someone who has been affected by Alzheimer’s. We have purchased 70 lanterns and hope that all 70 will be purchased and released to show a light of hope for all. A beautiful card donated by Walker Printing Company will be given with your purchase of the lantern for $5. Remember all proceeds will go to the Alzheimer Foundation of Georgia. Please know that the block party is not only for students and family it is for the public as well. Please come and show your support for these worthy causes. We are one as a community!
The popular CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) Kid’s Campus is back this summer at Wiregrass Technical College. The CSI camp is for kids entering third grade up to high school seniors. The Kid’s Camp gives area students a chance to experience a fun while learning how to conduct investigations! With new equipment and state-of-the-art techniques the Criminal Justice Department at Wiregrass is hosting this camp to give students a peak in the world of forensics. Students will learn how to gather evidence for scientific analysis in a crime laboratory. All supplies and materials needed are included in the registration fee. Targeted participants are grades 3-12. The camp will be held June 20-23 on the Ben Hill-Irwin Campus from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The fee for the Ben Hill-Irwin Camp is $50. The Exchange Club of Tifton recently presented an Officer of the Year Award To Trooper First Class Slade Reid, originally of Abbeville, GA Commander Mike Searcy, with the Georgia State Patrol Post 13 located in Tifton, recently presented the 2016 Exchange Club Officer of the Year Award to Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Slade Reid. Reid attended Trooper School in 2014, joining the Tifton Post in August of that year. He earned his Trooper First Class status in 2016. Searcy said that Reid truly exemplifies the core values of being a trooper. Reid led the Post in 2015 in accident investigations and traffic stops. He also made 26 DUI arrests. Reid grew up in Abbeville, GA and is an avid football and baseball fan. Attending the meeting to see him receive the award were Reid’s fiancé Kim, his parents and future father in law. Reid thanked the Club for the award and asked everyone to please say a prayer for all the law enforcement out there. The Exchange Club of Tifton presents the different branches of Public Safety with an award six times each year.

The 10u Patriot Baseball Team recently sold tickets for a $500 Grand Prize drawing held Friday, April15th. Greg Ledford won the drawing and donated the money back to the team. We want to thank everyone for buying tickets. The money raised will help this local group of boys with uniforms, fees, and equipment.
The Pineview Home & Garden Club met at the community Center in Pineview, Tuesday, April 5 with eight members present. Wilcox County Agent, Tim Smith brought an informative program on Avian Flu. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostesses. The door prize was won by Eugenia Helms. Next meeting will be a salad luncheon.
