Jumpin' J's Encourages PASS Attendance Regular attendance is a critical component to the success of the PASS program. Student achievement and continued funding rely on consistent daily participation. In an effort to motivate and encourage high attendance a nine weeks special incentive was planned for Thursday, March 24th. PASS partners sponsored Jumpin' J's Inflatables to provide a fun day in the WCES Gymnasium. All students were allowed to participate, however, those with the highest attendance were given the greatest amount of time to enjoy the slides and games. This was a very active enrichment time and provided students an opportunity to exercise and relax prior to Spring Break. This was a totally new adventure for the PASS children and they had a blast playing with their friends and classmates. A big thank you to our PASS partners for providing this great reward. Wilcox County Host District BB Match There were seven counties participating in the Wilcox County Project S.A.F.E. Southwest District BB Match, and what a day it was! Especially compared to 3 years ago when the temperature was a cool 30 degrees with a wind-chill factor of about 20 with wind AND slight rain. The counties competing were Ben Hill, Berrien, Colquitt, Crisp, Pulaski, Tift, and Wilcox. There was a total of 90 shooters in all. Wilcox County Gold Team came in 4th at the match with Wilcox Blue taking 10th place and Wilcox White Team finishing with 11th place. All shooters were just a bit off due to the wind but all in all, a great day! All three Wilcox County Teams qualified for the state match which will be held the second weekend in April. Placing 21st in Overall Shooter was Judson Terry. In the Prone position Madison Terry took 8th place, while Nolan Gaines received 4th place in the Standing position. Faith Stokesberry was 9th in the Sitting position and Judson Terry received 4th in the Kneeling position. Please remember that all placings were for 90 shooters total! Also scoring 100% on the written test was Chase Calhoun, Kristi Childers, Caroline Clifton, Toby Hollingsworth, Lori Sutton, and Madison Terry. We would like to give a great big THANK-YOU to our coaches Bubba Weldon, Ronald Wayne Culpepper, Tracy Terry, and Charlie Coleman, without these guys there wouldn't be a team. Also a big THANK-YOU to Greg Ledford and the Wilcox County Recreation Department for helping with the facilities and the delicious food. Spring Break Adventures with Literacy Night Students, teachers and staff at Wilcox County Schools are anxiously awaiting a few days off from the rigors of school! Spring Break is just around the corner and to help everyone get ready, Family Connections, Wilcox County Schools and the PASS Program hosted Literacy Night on Tuesday March 22, 2016 at WCES. Parents gathered in the cafeteria to hear Matthew Hall, Wilcox County Schools, Family Coordinator, share exciting information about funds available to the Wilcox County Schools. Amy Thompson from Family Connections shared the theme “Spring Break Adventures” with 5 different stories being read to families. She then gave instructions to the group to assist them in rotating classrooms. Each room was decorated to depict a scene from the story being shared. Robin Greene read “When the Relatives Came”. Ruby Naylor, amidst a jungle safari, read the book, “Starry Safari”. PASS Family Engagement Coordinator, Jena Rossman took the kids to “Grandma's Beach” and never left the school! Sue Powers read “Teddy Bear's Picnic” in the WCES Media Room and Drew Willingham captured the audience with Maggie and Milo. As the air horn sounded, community volunteers with banners held high led the groups to the appropriate room. Children were fascinated to hear the books “come to life”. After all the books were read, the families and volunteers met in the cafeteria for a pizza supper. The blessing of the meal was given by Superintendent Julie Childers. The pizza was generously donated by Pruitt Health Hospice of Cordele. Former WCHS graduate Kathy Bennett was on hand to represent the group. A big thank you goes to Sara Sercer, the WC-4H'ers and the many community volunteers who donated their time to plan and ensure the success of this event.
