It has DSTV Premium, a DVD player, Wi-Fi, a large selection of board games and a roaring fireplace in the living area DINING WITH THE FISH Europe’s first underwater restaurant is set to open in early 2019 in Lindesnes, in the south of Norway. The planned concrete structure features an 11-metre wide panoramic window and is designed to become part of the marine environment, with a menu that will focus on seafood. The restaurant called Under, was designed by Norwegian architectural firm Snøhetta, famous for its work on the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet and the Bibliotheca Alexandria in Egypt. It will stand on the seabed five metres below the surface, with thick walls to withstand the variable sea conditions. Environmental considerations have guided the design, which is housed in a coarse concrete shell to invite mussels to cling on. Outside opening hours, the unit will double as a marine biology research centre. that awaits those chilly romantic West Coast winter evenings. With traditional white walls, pretty candy pink shutters and Moroccan blue and white tiles on the stairs and in the outdoor olive garden shower, it is adorned with beautiful art and carefully chosen whitewashed furniture. A locally based housekeeper meets and greets guests on arrival and is on call for the duration of your stay. Sugar Shack can house 2-6 guests very comfortably with its three beautifully appointed double bedrooms (two with showers and one with a Victorian bath). It also has secure enclosed parking for two cars and an alarm and security beams around the property. All of this for just R3 000 a night for the whole cottage. An absolute dream.

IS THE FUTURE OF AIR TRAVEL CARGO HOLD CABINS?

Soon people will be able to book cabins in the cargo holds of planes. Airbus, the European plane-maker, has struck a deal with a company called Zodiac Aerospace to develop sleeper modules that can be swapped out with regular cargo containers on specific flights. “This approach to commercial air travel is a step towards changed passenger comfort. We have already received very positive feedback from several airlines on our first mockups,” said Airbus cabin and cargo chief Geoff Pinner. The first planes to get this option, in 2020, will be Airbus’s A330s – airlines will be able to have their jets retrofitted with the modules, or buy new aircraft with them in place. Airbus is also looking at the possibility of fitting the system in its A350 XWB airliner. Quantas recently said it was considering using part of its cargo holds for sleeping berths to make its BrisbaneChigago route bearable. According to Agence FrancePresse, Air France-KLM also came up with a similar concept in late 2016 with the intention of offering more comfort to economy class passengers.

AIR FRANCE ADDS FIVE NEW MEDITERRANEAN DESTINATIONS

For those of you wishing to escape the winter months in South Africa, Air France is adding Bari in Italy, Cagliari in Sardinia (Italy), Dubrovnik in Croatia, Ibiza in Spain, and Perpignan in France to its destinations for the European summer. These new destinations are in addition to a range of seasonal services that Air France offers as a response to its customers’ expectations and meeting them in the best possible way. The fewer trips made by business travellers in July and August enable the company to redeploy its aircrafts in European summer times. www.airfrance.com
