THE SUGAR SHACK This fisherman-style cottage located in the quaint fishing village of Paternoster will ensnare your imagination with dreams of an almost impossible picture perfect holiday worthy of postcards. And the best part of it is that it is completely affordable. A two-minute walk from the beach, you can enjoy cocktails whilst relaxing in a hammock on the upstairs deck or have a braai on the spacious veranda which is sheltered from the weather. The kitchen is a dream fitted out with Le Creuset pots next to an open plan dining and sitting room. It has DSTV Premium, a DVD player, Wi-Fi, a large selection of board games and a roaring fireplace in the living area

that awaits those chilly romantic West Coast winter evenings. With traditional white walls, pretty candy pink shutters and Moroccan blue and white tiles on the stairs and in the outdoor olive garden shower, it is adorned with beautiful art and carefully chosen whitewashed furniture. A locally based housekeeper meets and greets guests on arrival and is on call for the duration of your stay. Sugar Shack can house 2-6 guests very comfortably with its three beautifully appointed double bedrooms (two with showers and one with a Victorian bath). It also has secure enclosed parking for two cars and an alarm and security beams around the property. All of this for just R3 000 a night for the whole cottage. An absolute dream. www.sugarshackcollection.com

DINING WITH THE FISH Europe’s first underwater restaurant is set to open in early 2019 in Lindesnes, in the south of Norway. The planned concrete structure features an 11-metre wide panoramic window and is designed to become part of the marine environment, with a menu that will focus on seafood. The restaurant called Under, was designed by Norwegian architectural firm Snøhetta, famous for its work on the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet and the Bibliotheca Alexandria in Egypt. It will stand on the seabed five metres below the surface, with thick walls to withstand the variable sea conditions. Environmental considerations have guided the design, which is housed in a coarse concrete shell to invite mussels to cling on. Outside opening hours, the unit will double as a marine biology research centre. 16
