FIRST READ WEBSTER - Larsen Family Public Library in Webster is offering a special series of studies dealing with Islam. Topics include The Five Pillars of Islam; Islam and Jesus; Islam and Jews and Christians; Islam and charity; Islam and violence; Islam and finance; Islam and the Islamic State. The intent of these studies is to share factual information about this world religion in order to help people create a well-informed response to Islam and Muslims. The studies will be sponsored by area congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and are being led by the Rev. Carl Heidel, former assistant professor at Spring Arbor University in Michigan where he taught world religions. Two study sessions remain - Jan. 29 and Feb. 5 in the community room of the library from 10:30 a.m. until noon. There is no charge for this program, but registration is required.
