),567 5($' STATEWIDE - Wisconsin’s average ACT score for the most recent high school graduates ranks second in the nation, although scores in the state are likely to go down in the future. The average ACT score in Wisconsin was 22.2 out of 36 points for the nearly 50,000 graduates in the Class of 2015. The state tied for second place with Iowa, trailing Minnesota by just 0.5 point. The rankings compare Wisconsin to the 29 other states where more than 50 percent of the students take the assessment. ACT scores won’t likely be as high for the Class of 2016. John Johnson, spokesman for the state Department of Public Instruction, said that’s because all high school juniors were required to take the exam this past March. “All the states that have gone to having 100 percent of juniors taking the ACT have shown scores decline,â€? he said. “We expect to see that, but we think it’s for a very good purpose.â€? Johnson said the goal of having all juniors take the ACT is to get more students to consider postsecondary education. - Parth Shah | WPR News ‡‡‡ FREDERIC - Frederic Elementary School will be having a 9/11 patriotic program on Friday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. They will be honoring local heroes, servicemen and women and veterans. The public is welcome to attend the program. – submitted ‡‡‡ MADISON – We often think of disasters in terms of the lives lost and the property damaged. September is National Preparedness Month. “The most important step you can take today is to make a plan,â€? said Wisconsin Emergency Management Administrator Brian Satula. “Talk to your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers now before disaster strikes.â€?
