Jerome Lee, Sr., transitioned this life on July 1, 2022 in his residence surrounded by his loved ones in Hampton, VA. He was born on November 5, 1939 in Bertie County, North Carolina to the late Arthur Lee and Marie H. Cox. He was also reared by his stepfather Claude Cox. He was educated in the Newport News Public Schools where he attended Carver High School. He was employed by Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock, now Huntington Ingall’s Newport News Shipbuilding in the X19 Ventilation department as a supervisor. In 20022003, Jerome, retired from the shipyard in the X36 department. He believed in hard work and being consistent and loyal. Jerome accepted Christ and got baptized in 1997 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Newport News, VA. He was a faithful member and was proud of his church home. Jerome enjoyed life. He would always keep a smile on his face and shared a joke to put a smile on the faces of those around him. He loved to go fishing, shooting pool,

and listening to music. After retirement, he would join many of his buddies at Hardee’s, reminiscing of the good ‘ole days at the shipyard. He took great pride in his yard. He kept up the grass and flower beds to contend with the best yards on the block. As a father, he was loving, stern and direct. He made sure you understood that excuses weren’t excepted and that you must work hard because no one will just give you anything. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary J. Lee of 39 years. Jerome has left fond memories with his sons, Rev.
