Macille Vinson, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, transitioned from labor to reward on April 2, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on February 12, 1930, in Rich Square, NC, to the late Anderson and Caroline Boone, she was the epitome of strength, love, and resilience.

Macille’s journey was one of unwavering faith and dedication. She was baptized at an early age. She was a long time member of Gethsemane Baptist in Newport News, VA. Despite completing her education up to 9th grade at Creecy School in North Carolina, Macille displayed a remarkable work ethic. She dedicated over two decades of service to Frosty Seafood and served as an assistant manager at a local furniture store.

Fiercely independent and spirited, Macille was known for her feisty nature. Her culinary skills were legendary; her pies, especially coconut and sweet potato, were sought after by neighbors. Her fried chicken fell off the bone, and her chicken and dumplings, collard greens, cabbage, potato salad, and cornbread were reminiscent of home-cooked meals that nourished the soul.

Beyond her culinary talents, Macille was a devoted mother and grandmother. She shared her love and wisdom through storytelling, embodying the virtues of a Proverbs 31 woman. Macille lived by the principles of integrity, fairness, and accountability. She never hesitated to speak her mind and stood up for what she believed in, often reminding others that “what goes around comes around.”

In her leisure time, Macille found joy in bingo and cherished trips to Bingo and Casino in New Jersey with her neighbors. She also enjoyed exercising and participating in workout classes, embracing a healthy and active lifestyle.

She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, James Vinson, granddaughter Latoya Wilkins, and siblings Dorane Jacobs, Janie Early, Lilly Mae Green, Catherine Smith, Francis Mitchell, Jack Boone, and Anderson Boone.

Macille leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. She is survived by her children, James C. Vinson, Wilbert Boone (Tammy), and Carolyn Wilkins (Samuel); grandchildren Carlos Maurice Vinson and Carolyn Marie Washington (Tony); great-grandchildren Eli Vinson, Layla Brazile Taylor Washington, Tyler Washington, and Cyntil Wilkins; sister-in-law Fannie Boone; nieces and nephews James Boone, Van Boone, and Annette Boone; and a host of other relatives.

Family and Friends

Family and Friends

Perhaps you sent a lovely card, or sat quietly in a chair.

Perhaps you sent those beautiful flowers, that we saw sitting there.

Perhaps you spoke the kindest words, as any friend could say.

Perhaps you were not there at all, just thought of us that day.

Whatever you did to console our hearts, we thank you so much for whatever part.

May God continute to bless each of you.
