Background The Global Battle of the Bands (GBOB) is the world’s largest music competition for bands playing their own material LIVE. From Europe to Asia, Africa, Australia, the Americas and the Pacific, we gather the best new bands from hundreds of local and nationwide live music competitions around the world in a thrilling showdown of raw talent and showmanship – at the GBOB World Finals. GBOB was founded 2004 in the UK. Having started with a roster of 16 countries, the number of participants/ partners has now grown to 25. In 2010 alone, an estimated number of 12,000 musicians performed during the competition, spread across 200 concerts worldwide.

Play For Real “Thank you GBOB, The competetion came along when it felt like the band had nothing more to give, having so many doors in the music Industry slammed in our face. Winning that competion helped restore the band's confidence as musicains and song writers & helped us out financially to continue to record, tour & promote Kopek. All & all it put us on the course that we are on today. RESPECT.” KopeK band 2005 GBOB World Champions Kopek is currently touring USA and other regions of America under the management of Union Entertainment Group (management of Nickelback, Hinder, Richard Marx, others)

GBOB is for bands playing their own material, meaning, no cover songs and no pre-recorded music. To date, this is the only global competition that is open to ALL bands in all musical genres – whether young or not-so-young, professional or amateur, signed or unsigned by a recording label. Promoting equal opportunity regardless of type of music, colour, creed, religion, sex, national origin or age, GBOB champions those outside the mainstream. Going against the traditionally and notoriously difficult recording company route, the competition’s strength has always been its credibility as a true breeding ground for emerging musical talent. GBOB winners - be it on the worldwide or national scale - have received attention from the media and from various music industry professionals both locally and internationally, making their win a significant stepping stone in the success of their musical careers. Simply put, GBOB is all about giving music back to the musicians.

The World Finals

Every year Local Qualifying Heats and National Finals take place in participating countries around the world. Famous music icons and industry professionals are invited as judges or guest performers during the events. The winners of the local competitions will go forward to the World Finals on fully sponsored travel and lodging. The World Finals happens in a different country every year. National winners gather together for a three to four day affair in the host country to meet with other bands and other professionals; and ultimately to prepare for the final leg of this worldwide competition wherein they will be representing their country in par with other bands from around the world. Only one band will win the grand prize of 100,000 USD worth of cash and band development packages.

"I had a blast being a judge at GBOB. There wasnt one single band on the stage who didnt deserve to be there. I really like the concept and hope it grows year on year." Steve Lillywhite Producer - U2, Iggy Pop, The Rolling Stones “There are many band competitions out there, but what really made us want to be involved with GBOB is that it is a truly international event, taking place in countries as diverse as Thailand, Brazil, Jamaica, Nepal, Morocco, Russia, the Philippines, South Africa, Pakistan and many many more. And it’s about bands playing their own material and playing live. That is a perfect fit with Carlsbro’s ethos as one of the world’s great guitar amp companies going back more than 50 years.”

“Yours is not a competition. It’s a movement,” Bob Geldof Organizer of Band Aid, Live Aid , Live 8 “The Global Battle of the Bands is an idea whose time has come,” Andrew Loog Oldham Former manager of the Rolling Stones
