DRIVING CHANGE
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Napa Valley conducted and Enrichment survey focused on assessing the quality of our current enrichment programs and gathering suggestions for improvement. We sought input from parents, guardians, and participants to understand what aspects of our programs are working well and where there is room for enhancement. By analyzing the feedback received, we aim to make targeted improvements to ensure that our enrichment programs continue to provide valuable and enriching experiences for all participants. This document is intended to share the results of these surveys but generally speaking.

Parents, particularly working parents, are overwhelmingly happy with the quality of BGCNV Enrichment. In terms of areas to improve there were several key takeaways.
Parents wanted more communication about upcoming activities, behavioral issues, and program enrollment.
Parents wanted more community events and engagement at their individual site locations.
Parents wanted to know more about how they could help support the Club.
I would recommend the Club to other families. I get good value out of what I pay for this service.
I feel my child is safe in the after school program. The Club is important to my family's stability & success.
I would like to see more of the following programs after school:
I and my partner (if any) are employed in the following fields...

Including more health snacks with fruit and vegetables.
Dominic has a great time at Boys and girls. You are doing a great job!
With the increased fees this year, we re-evaluate monthly whether or not we want to stop attending BGC. We’ve stayed for fear of losing our 1st graders ability to attend after school interventions. We also like that the kids socialize and exercise outside at bGC. I work nights, if I pulled them out, they’d be bored at home while I tried to sleep.
confirmation emails regarding signups for enrollment throughout the year. We have enjoyed our first year at boys and girls club and we wouldn’t change any of it.
Additional enrichment activities - such as stem or art - would enhance the experience. Outdoor play is fun & power hour is necessary. However, some guided educational time would be great.
My kiddo would like more activities on the field, fuse beads activities, etc…I would like to see more advertising/communication regarding “Dine & Donate,” fundraiser, kids activities etc.. A monthly calendar one side Spanish, the other side English would be great to give each family at the beginning of the month. It could even be a specific /different color paper for each month. That way all the info for each month is on one paper and I don’t feel like I have missed something.
My older daughter has complained about a few of the staff at Unidos Middle school. She has complained that some of the staff have not respected personal space of kids at the school. The staff has not intervened when some kids have been bullied and instead laughed along with bully at the child being bullied.
I would like to receive text messages or phone calls about days available at the clubhouse when school is out, or other reminders.
Less of a wait on the waitlist to start the program. Our son goes to the Boys and Girls Club. We have been on the waitlist for our daughter to attend the after-school program.

More assistance with homework during power hour, if needed.
My kiddo loves attending the club after school and looks forward to it every day.
Paying attention to the safety when a child makes an alarming complaint that causes the child to feel unsafe.
I believe that highlighting the link between the school day and afterschool activities is absolutely essential for nurturing a well-rounded education for our children. When teachers and after-school staff collaborate closely, it's like weaving a seamless tapestry of learning experiences that enrich and reinforce what our children are taught during the school day. This collaboration not only ensures that important concepts are reinforced but also provides a nurturing environment where our children can thrive academically and personally.
A bit more oversight, forcing kids to do/participate in activities to decrease computer game usage
More attention to preventing bullying, specifically to those with neurodivergence. More training about neurodivergence and how invisible differences show up.

Better supervision
Encouraging the students to work in their homework after the first hour of arriving to the club.
We are extremely satisfied with Ivory and her staff at NVLA, they are professional, friendly and responsive. My child looks forward to attending the afterschool program and has made connections with the staff. The enrichment activities like the cooking class is an added bonus and the power hour is a huge help! Thank you so very much!
More info about what he kids do in aftercare. Be more friendly, showing concerns and feel greeted!
Pick up phone female person is so joyful I look forward to speaking with her daily! Don t be afraid to tell kids to participate in activities so they don t spend too much time computer playing.
BGC & NVUSD have major communication issues in regard to last year summer school and after school intervention. I should know where my kids are. Not find out my kid was at summer school from her, after she was there for class. Nvusd needs to tell parents the kids need the program before BGC opens enrollment. Without anything from nvusd, I don’t know I need to enroll and I don’t know the more general BGC communication applies to my kid.
Willow is an open campus after school. While I appreciate this, the open gate at the front of the school makes me nervous. Younger kids can definitely wander that way and could easily leave. Additional head counts and checks would be nice.
Overall I have been very happy with the staff at the club. They are always helpful and accommodating to any of my requests. I receive quick responses to my emails. I appreciate the organization of the program.
By keeping in better touch when it comes to events or days available for care at the clubhouse when school is out of session.
No changes to suggest. Alex and his staff are great with communication with the parents. We appreciate them & all they do.
More interaction with parents if issues arise. I have hardly any face-to-face interaction with staff members or seniority so I don't really know who is watching my child. More of a personal experience would be better. I understand that I am not allowed inside school gates. I would like there to be a Back to School Night where it would allow parents to have the opportunity to meet Boys & Girls Club staff members and acquaint yourself with the assigned staff for your child.
An open house or parent's night would help.
Continue to have great staff that love to engage with the kids. My child loves it! Also loves when they have reward parties!
increasing opportunities for parents to volunteer or support local staff can make a significant difference in our experience with the Clubs. When we, as parents, are actively involved in various aspects of Club activities, whether it's lending a hand at events, sharing our insights on program development, or joining in on workshops, it not only strengthens our bond with the Club but also creates a deeper sense of community. This collaboration isn't just about enhancing our own experiences; it's about coming together as a family, supporting one another, and our kids.
Parents have to work and in this economy that sucks the opportunity of many parents specially if single, having the opportunity to offer full cost scholarships would be beneficial.
Better security measures for pick up procedures. Trauma informed practices for staff.

It gives us piece of mind that our child is at the safe space while we are working
We have to work and need a safe place for our kids after school.
Boys and girls club after school has been amazing, the staff has really made my son feel comfortable and valued. I am very pleased with the BV club.
I am a single mother (widow). The Club provides a safe place for my daughter to attend after school. She’s made many friends in the afterschool program and enjoys spending time there. She especially loves being able to play volleyball and do arts and crafts, like painting. I appreciate the variety of activities offered. I also like how they have power hour every day, which is time for my daughter to focus on schoolwork/homework. Without the Club, I would have to find some sort of alternative for her, and I don't think it would be as enriching or rewarding. I really am grateful for an organization like the Club . Thank you!
We both work full time and need childcare - ideally onsite so we don’t need to interrupt the work day
The club is very important for both parents because, we can concentrate in our jobs with no worries.
It is important for my daughter and I so it gives me the opportunity to finish working and for her to have extra social time to improve her social and emotional skills.
We like that the program is offered at the school. We appreciate how well Alex and his staff run the after-school program at Willow. Our son enjoys the after-school program and always shares with us the fun learning activities the program offers. He also enjoys playing sports with his friends while attending the program.
Without the club my kids would not have a place to go during the summer and any other break which would really affect our work. We appreciate the club for being a reliable source of care for us
The club is very important to me. Allows me to work and be a single parent. My kids love club.
You guys provide a safe fun place for my child to attend after school. If he was not attending the club, this would affect me being able to work.
Boys and girls club made it so easy for us to transition our child with special needs with so much ease. It brought so much peace of mind to our day to day and we are very grateful that he is in a great environment, get motivated, looks forward to it and get taught respectful manners with their leadership team. Love to see their structure. Thanks so much.
The club provides a safe and enriching environment for my children after school. The club offers different activities to keep them active.
Allows us to have a full time job
Without the club my kids would not have a place to go during the summer and any other break which would really affect our work. We appreciate the
I am a single parent and to me boys and girls program is very important due to the fact i get off later than my child and I don't have any support from anyone, you guys are pretty much my back bone to support my child. And I appreciate you guys so much!
It helps with my work schedule. It allows me to work full time and be able to pick my kids up from school after work. It helps my kids do their home work.
We need affordable programs like this - on site at the schools. As working parents without other options, it’s a lifesaver. I wish all school sites were as lucky as us.
Without this program my child would have nowhere to go while I finish work. I appreciate that I don’t have to leave him home alone to be using technology too much

I work on call so I never know when I’m going to get called in for work so this program works for me and my fiancé.
My family has benefited by this program tremendously. To start off, my kids' social-emotional skills have improved since joining the club. They are much more comfortable around children of other ages (especially older) and they've grown to really admire and care for their classroom staff. Second very notable change in my kids have been the cooking skills and interest in cooking they have gained from the program. My third grader had no interest in helping in the kitchen, but after these few months at Club, she is baking, preparing breakfast on the weekend and packing lunch for herself.
Help my kids get the social experience.
It’s critical for a safe day that extends the children’s learning, social development and completing homework.

Being a single mom of two I don't have a lot of help. I work a full time job and really need a safe place for my daughter to be. I have been extremely pleased with the all staff, the program and safety. My daughter loves it!
Having great staff makes the best feeling. My child is at NVLA kinder group and loves the staff both staff ladies are Awesome to say the least! Very engaging., professional, caring, Great Team! Thank you!
This club is important in so many ways. It is a place where my daughter feels safe and supported. She loves the staff. It is also a place for her to be and learn while we are at work.
We were relieved of a lot off stress from having to pick up our kids before we were off work. I often had to take them to work with me, where they'd be bored and kept me from focusing. The club has helped us become a better unit as a family with less complaining and more time and relaxed energy for each other.
We heavily rely on the club. Should it not be available we would not know what to do . The staff are fantastic and I couldn’t ask for a better program.
We are essential workers. We work in industries that do not have flexible scheduling. We are also living in a split household so our income is stretched very thin. Most other after care programs are cost prohibitive and/or have limited hours. I appreciate that my child is safe and able to attend in an environment (on campus) where he feels comfortable.
It is very important to our family, we are both full time working parents and need the club for after school care for our child
It helps me focus at work and continue to provide for my family & knowing my child is in a safe place
The club is very important to me. I have no other childcare. I am really grateful that my son is picked up and walked over to the club. I don't have to worry, I know he is safe.
The Boys & Girls Club holds a special place in our family's life. It's not just a place where my child spends his afternoons; it's become an integral part of our routine and a cornerstone of his growth and development. Knowing that my kid is in a safe, supportive environment after school brings me peace of mind as a parent. Beyond safety, though, the Club offers so much more. It's where my child has discovered new passions, honed his skills, and is making lifelong friendships. From helping with homework to exploring artistic talents or getting involved in sports, the Club provides a diverse range of activities that cater to each child's unique interests and strengths. But perhaps what I value most is the sense of community the Club fosters. It's a place where my family feels welcomed and connected, where we've built relationships with other families and staff members who genuinely care about our children's well-being. In essence, the Boys & Girls Club isn't just a facility; it's become an extended family for us, playing a vital role in shaping my children's lives and providing invaluable support to our family as a whole.
Who we Serve: If we were to consider all of the youth attending the Club, their age, household, economic status, and time spent in our programs and condense it into ONE story here is how that would read: The typical member at the Boys & Girls Club lives and attends school in Napa. They live in a family of four with a sibling who likely also attends the Club and parents who work full-time. Collectively their household earns less than $80,000/year. They live in a home that is rented jointly by family or friends. Despite shared resources, money is tight and this often disrupts basic needs like nutrition & housing. As a result, their parents often work multiple jobs and rely on the Club for care when school isn’t in session.
