WELCOME
April 9, 2014 Dear California Future Business Leaders of America Members Congratulations! Together, at this conference, we represent the top members in our state and national FBLA. This year we have worked hard to develop, advance, and improve our program. The efforts of the Board of Directors, the Management Team, the Executive Board, and members like you and me have served to make our state the strongest in the nation. This weekend, I challenge you to Bring Business and Education Together! Show off your suits, blouses, and business cards because here at the SLC, you are truly among California FBLA’s most prestigious and successful members. As we converge on Ontario, let us show this community what FBLA is all about- leadership. Most importantly, use this opportunity to meet the future CEO’s, senators, and businesspeople; I bet they’re sitting, walking or dancing next to you right now! We, as members of California FBLA, are best known for our competitive skill and our business knowledge. This conference marks the beginning of our progress together, towards building our leadership skills; skills that will help us transform from students to student leaders. For those of us who are leaving FBLA this year, we have done our part and we have made this association what it is. To those who are staying, we wish you the best; enjoy your time and make the best of what FBLA provides. Congratulations again, good luck in your competitions, I look forward to meeting you this weekend! In service

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & BRANDING
Do you have questions about college? Want to find out more about PBL? Trying to understand what your purpose in life is? Exploring career options and want some guidance? Stop by the “Ask Me Anything,” Session to get your questions answered to the best of Florence’s ability!
Learn about cause-related marketing -- a powerful marketing tool that business and non-profits are leveraging in creative ways. 89% of Americans (aged 13 to 25) would switch from one brand to another if they knew it was associated with a “good cause.” In this engaging workshop, you'll learn the history of cause marketing through interesting and fun case studies and be introduced to SearchDogsUSA – a premier example of “cause marketing”. You'll also receive tools that might inspire you to create your own cause marketing program.
In this workshop, counseling experts will provide an overview of how to navigate the college application process. The main focus is student development throughout high school, with tips on improvements in key areas such as GPA, standardized tests, and extracurricular activities. In addition, counselors will present recommendations and guidelines for students' summer planning.
You only need one gear to succeed...GO! Chris Blackmore will talk about creating, achieving and succeeding with your passion, your skills, your network and your gift. Funny, straight up and relevant information that will make you GO! In order to succeed you need to be able to sell yourself and your ideas powerfully and persuasively. This ability is the single greatest skills that will help you accomplish your dreams and objectives. In this high-energy, fast paced, audience interactive workshop, you will learn how to make any presentation more dynamic, fire up any team, and speak in a way this will enthrall and enrapture your audience. Being able to predict a trend is a valued skill for professionals in the fashion and design industries. Let FIDM share our expertise with you as we teach you to interpret today’s trendsetting styles and designs—from eclectic street fashions to avant-garde interiors—in order to forecast the looks of tomorrow. This presentation will sharpen your critical thinking ability and understanding of how new designs are conceived. You are your most important asset. In this workshop, learn how to leverage your existing skills to get a promotion, find that new internship or job, seize opportunities and feel more confident about what you have to offer. You are a unique individual with many talents. Together, we will discover these gifts and abilities and provide you with a system to promote yourself without looking pretentious. Led by Colledge owner Jenny Umhofer, a former admission officer for UCLA, Caltech and Scripps College, this workshop will cover ways students can position themselves to stand out in the college admissions process. Learn more about what colleges really want in an applicant, how to write a compelling essay, and how to pick the best colleges for your list. This workshop will discuss what development means and the most effective ways to develop your professional skills and experiences. Learn the secret behind personal branding and the benefits of promoting the brand "You".
Ashlee Spuhler, Worldwide Account Manager, FedEx Services
Simone McFarland, CEO, Synergie Associates
How do you stand out in today's competitive workplace? In this workshop session, you will learn how to develop your unique selling proposition (USP), promote yourself correctly using social media, and leverage your existing relationships, as well as develop your own public relations campaign.
RENEWABLE ENERGY & ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Test your energy knowledge! Learn about the various types of renewable power, where we get our power from, and an introduction to energy efficiency, which is state of California's preferred resource for energy.
PROMOTING YOURSELF IN THE WORKPLACE
Shahana Samiullah, Senior Manager, Southern California Edison
USING THE SECRETS OF SCREENWRITING TO WRITE YOUR COLLEGE ESSAY
A persuasive storyline and clear, engaging narrative are at the heart of both college admissions essays, as well as cinematic screenplays. Learn how to approach the essay writing process using essential screenwriting techniques that will help you develop a great admissions essay while having fun at the same time.
Ethan Sawyer, Outreach Coordinator, Elite Prep & The College Essay Guy
