Duck Dynasty visit canceled
Jillian Winn Staff Reporter
Students, parents, and many others were anticipating the arrival of stars of the popular TV show, Duck Dynasty last Saturday. Unfortunately, the appearance was cancelled due to Robertson, his wife, Korie and their children, John Luke and Sadie were planned to appear at the event. Duck Dynasty is a reality show that airs every Wednesday on A&E. It shows the Robertson family, who became wealthy from their family-run business, with the well-known Duck Commander call. The Robertson family, including brothers Phil and Si, and Phil’s sons Jase, Willie, and Jep are all known for their long beards and humor. This TV show has kept people laughing across Western Kentucky and other parts of the country. The cast had a show out of about 4,000 people earlier in April of this year. During this event Jase Roberston and his wife, Missy, gave a message about faith and family. Also,
possibly the most talked about character, Si made an appearance. Afterward, the people in the audience got a chance to meet them and get a picture with them. The show has had a great school and community as you can see by all the Duck Dynasty t-shirts, the amount of people who showed up at the last Duck Dynasty appearance, and even a Duck Dynasty day for spirit week. During this day of spirit week, some students who dressed up as the show’s TV stars were awarded tickets to the event. Even though there was much talk about the event, they surprisingly did not make enough sales. If you bought a ticket, you can return it to

DECA, FBLA travel to Nashville for NFL experience
Hannah Templeton Business Manager
Each year beginning in August, football fans wait with anticipation for the start of the National Football League. This year, DECA and FBLA member recieved the opportunity to experience the buzz and excitment of a NFL game up close and personal. August of 1920 sparked the beginning of a new American pass time. The NFL originally started with only 16 teams. However, in the 1960’s a competing organization, the American football league was founded and eventually merged with the NFL. This merge increased the league from 16 teams to 32 teams. During the regular NFL season, there are 16 games leading up to the playoffs. Graves County High School FBLA and DECA members were given the opportunity to go to the week 3 game between the Tennessee Titans and San Diego Chargers. The NFL is split into two divisions, the National Football Conference and the American Football Conference. Each of the two conferences are divided into North, South, East, and West divisions. The gener-
al area of where the team is from puts them within their division. During the regular teams play division rivals twice. Once they reach play offs the division leader will compete against another division leader. The two winning teams from the division leading games compete against each other in the conference championship. The winner of the AFC and NFC championship will compete in the Superbowl. The Tennessee Titans debuted as the Oilers in 1960 with an oil rig as their logo. Besides a few simple color changes, the logo stayed the same until the team name was changed in 1999. When the name was changed from the Oilers to the Titans, a logo consisting of three stars similar to the Tennessee flag. The titans are a part of the AFC and western division. Small town hangouts: The struggle against boredom
Maranda Branum Editor-In-Chief
In life, things come and go. In a small town like Mayfield, that’s no different. Teens in this area complain alot about not having things to do on the weekend, in the summer and even after school hours. It really looks as if teen boredom is becoming a big problem.. Teens go out and have a tendency to get in trouble when there isn’t anything for them to do. Junior Hayley Morgan commented on the issue, “I feel like we should have more fun activities offered in Mayfield like they do in Paducah., like the
skating rink, variety of stores and the bigger movie theater.” What’s the solution? Most everyone has their own opinion. To me, teenagers have the ability to do various fun activities, but choose to waste their time whining about what could be done. As citizens of Mayfield, or the outlying area, it is our duty to work to get what we want. If we feel as if there isn’t enough to do here, then it is our respobility to bring that to the Mayor’s attention. Not only would bringing in these coveted pasttimes increase teenagers moral around the area, it would also greatly increase
the towns’ revenue. With so many small towns struggling to keep buissnesses in buisness, the act of pulling in new companies is what could push them into the black. Though the present looks unentertaining, there is a newfound hope for a brighter future in entertainment. Teenagers can expect a new skatepark and waterpark in the future, according to city officials. We’ve even heard rumors that the Strike Zone bowling alley will be opening under new mangement within a few weeks. If these activities open, teens in Mayfield will have greatly improved options.
MTV making infants the seasons hottest new accesory Sickly mornings, sleepless nights, and a crying child in your ear at all times. Sounds like a great life, right? MTV seems to think so. MTV’s Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant sure make the life of a teen parent look “cool” in the eyes of the average teen viewer. In many episodes of both shows you can obviously tell that the teen mom’s life has been turned upside down, so why does society idolize this? According to NBC’s Today Show website, one Teen Mom 2 star get payed $280,000 for one season
on the show, not including all the stuff they get paid for their endorsement deals and appearances. MTV just shows that a teen pregnancy could get you fame and fortune; which just isn’t common. The odds are getting pregnant as a teenager
will only get you negative attention and cost you a lot of money. In fact, according to CNN.com, the cost of raising a child is just shy of half a million dollars.
The University of California, Berkeley recently completed a study on teen pregnancy. “Most struggle just to keep their baby’s father in the picture on top of trying to finish high school and scraping together enough money to feed, clothe, and otherwise care for a newborn. And as far as higher education is concerned, less than 2% of teens who have had a baby before age 18 earn a college degree by age 30.” For many, 16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom are the most effective form of birth control and that’s how it should be.

As the weather gets colder and the sky gets greyer, the leaves begin to turn and bright colors of red, orange, and yellow decorate our community. The old summer decorations are put away until next summer rolls around and they are traded in for pumpkins, mums, your average hanging ghost and a Halloween blow up or two that you may see around town. HOW TO: 1. Use your newspapers to cover your work surface. Lay the grapevine wreath on the newspapers and spray-paint one side of the
chenille stems into coils and spirals. To do this you wrap a chenille stem around a pencil to make a long spiral. Remove the spiral from the pencil and tuck it into the wreaths vines. Make six or seven spirals and put them on the wreath. 3. To secure the coils and spirals on the wreath wrap the ends of
the stems around the vines of the wreath. 4. Take and cut several 2-inch pieces from black chenille stems. Thread one white pony bead on each stem piece. Twist each beaded stem piece around one of the vines in the wreath. Add beads between the chenille shapes until the desired look is achieved. 5. Place the ribbon under the vines where the bow is desired. Tie the ribbon into a bow and trim the ribbon ends. Now that we covered the entry to your house we can stroll on into the dining room. When you have guests come over for dinner you can impress by decorating your table with fall decorations, starting of with a centerpiece.
HOW TO:
You can use items from nature, such as leaves, apples, pine cones, nuts and other items to create a natural look. You could even put them in a bowl or let them lay along the length of the center of the table. There are many creative settings for candle but one good one for fall could be a copper lantern with a glowing candle inside.

Vin Diesel is back in the next chapter of The Chronicles of Riddick, and it was honestly quite disappointing to me. In this movie, Riddick gets dropped into to an unknown planet and has to overcome many obstacles, including dealing with bounty hunters. In my opinion, this movie had unnecessary nude scenes, sexual/crude humor and too much profanity. Over all, the film was not up to my expectations and a waste of time.
