December 2014

Jenny Dutton with her best friend Gill Clarke serves tea and coffee at the general meeting. Their good work keeps us all happy with refreshments. Jenny was born in Lincoln. She was the second of five siblings. She lost her older brother when she was three and he was five years old. She was brought up with her three younger sisters. Initially she went to a mixed junior school and later she went to an all girls’ school. She left school just before her 15th birthday. She had several different jobs. During this period she started getting interested in flowers. She joined St. Johns Ambulance when she was 11years old and remained a member for about 20years, finishing as a nursing cadet officer. Working for St. Johns Ambulance she had twice participated in a parade where Princess Margaret took the salute and once, the Queen, in London. She met her future husband Peter through the St. Johns Ambulance Brigade. Peter was a member of the Cleethorpes Brigade. She Married Peter at the age of 25 and moved to Barry Avenue where she still continues to live. She had a very happy married life with Peter, who was not only husband but also a great friend. He had been a partner in a local successful electrical business, until he retired. Jenny has been a member of Cleethorpes Flower Club since 1968 and, until two years ago, Grimsby Flower club. She met Gill at the college when she was doing a course at the Grimsby Institute. She has worked at Gill’s Florist shop for many years. Together they have taken part in many flower show competitions and they have won many many awards. Flower shows have been the pride and joy of her life. After the death of Peter, Jenny and Gill joined U3A; immediately they were invited to join the committee and with Gill, She has been looking after U3A catering at the monthly General Meetings.
