PROFILE OF NEW CHAIRMAN My name is Margaret Sisson and I joined U3A in 2011. I am a first generation Grimbarian, born of Geordie parents, who came here after the war when my dad got a job at the Humber Graving Dock. I was educated at Edward Street and Yarborough primary schools and then Wintringham Girls’ Grammar School. On leaving school I worked as a Laboratory Assistant at BTP where I met Robin, who I later married. After my marriage I moved to Fisons where I was Senior Analyst until I left to start a family. I have been married for 48 years to Robin, also a U3A member and we have had three children, Elisabeth, who sadly died in infancy, Kathryn (Kate) and Nicholas (Nick) and one grandchild, Jacob.

Guest Speaker: on 5th November 2015 Nigel Burns on History of Lincoln Castle About the Speaker and his talk Nigel Burns says, My talk deals principally with the medieval castle of Lincoln – mainly in its first 200 years during which time it was besieged six times and yet never taken by force, though it was taken by stratagem or trick twice. I try to tell something of the people who populated the castle in this time, both in war and in peace, so as to create a living building in the minds of the audience. My talk also covers the recent £22million of works carried out and deals with the archaeological discoveries made in the course of these works. Nigel has just retired as a partner in the solicitors firm of Wilkin Chapman which is probably known to Grimsby folk. He was based at the Lincoln office. In his spare time he is a member of the Friends of Lincoln Castle, and the guide leader of the castle guides who provide tours of the castle for members of the public on a daily basis.

I remained at home for 13 years bringing up my children but during this time I became a very active member of the Cooperative Women’s Guild, attending several conferences on their behalf.
