About me...

My name is Christian Perkins, and I am a 3D and environmental artist. I consider myself incredibly lucky to be in a field I enjoy so much. I grew up playing video games ranging from Super Smash Bros to more modern games like Over-watch. I fell in love with 3D art, and it became my dream to work as a 3D artist and to one day see my work in development. With the field constantly changing, I have developed into someone who loves to learn and grow. I strive to be a talented artist and someone who can be a knowledgeable and reliable asset to any team. I use my skills and drive to create highly detailed models and I can’t wait to design more!

My process...

Process is incredibly important for all art but especially animation and 3D design. My process for all of the projects you see follow these steps. Step 1, research; finding references images, inspiration and a general goal for the projects direction. Step 2 mock ups; creating storyboard, then a short animatic or drawing of the model to plan asset creation and any possible animations. Step 3 asset creation; creating the assets and scenes. Step 4 staging; setting up cameras and lights for rendering. Step 5 final delivery; rendering images and make final edits to footage. This process can be seen through out all of my work and help me to be as effective as possible.

Cartoon K

Cartoon Kitchen

The goal for this project was to create a cartoon 3D kitchen model that could be used in a short film narrative. The 3D scene was built so a small 2D character could be animated running around the counter. Scan the QR code to see the animatic that brought this scene to life.

Scythe Model

The scythe model was created to be used in a satirical advertisement about a weapon from hell. It was animated moving and had a small ball of fire in the center to bring the advertisement to life. Scan the QR code to see the scythe in action.

Lip Syncs Pt.1

Orbis Internship

I interned with Orbis Education to create virtual reality classrooms at GCU. During my internship I help develop this character and created lip syncs, walk cycles, idle movements and many other types of animations to make the simulation as realistic as possible. The scene in the bottom left is the actual virtual reality setting we worked in. I helped to develop 3d models such as the curtains and room walls to create a realistic enviroment for the simulation.

Pt.2

Orbis Internship

Here are just a few of the models I made for this internship. These models were used to be in a virtual reality laboratory and the goal was to have as few polygons possible, but accurate assets. Some models came out a bit higher, like the chair, simply due to its mechanisms and various parts, but all of the models were made with as few polygons as possible to save space in the virtual reality.

Gibbler 3.7

The Gibbler 3.7 is a model of an alien gun with a unique power source, Bob. The model and Bob were created to be in a satirical info-graphic comparing two fake gun models, the Gibbler 3.7, and the Balgar 3.8. Scan the code for a quick laugh!

Horror Room

Horror room was a school project to create a small interior room and texture it to a theme. The theme I chose was horror and created a horror themed office with knives, blood, and grungy textures. I also added “Jeff” to the scene who is staring through the window. The PC model on the desk was used in another one of my projects to create a 1990’s styled advertisement. Fire Simulation

This is a simulation of a fire in Cardboard box. It was created in Maya with nParticles and the goal was to incorporate a particle simulation into a 3D scene. I had a blast testing different colors and strength levels for this, and have a full render for the animation in the QR code.

José Posada Stamp

This project’s goal was to incorporate a past artists style into a piece of your own. I chose to make a hand held stamp with a Posada themed art drawing as the engraved portion. Posada’s art has always been an inspiration to me, and I loved getting to incorporate his style into my own work.

Katana Model

The goal for this project was to create a hard surface model, and I chose to create a katana. My goal was to create an accurate katana model with detailed textures and I enjoyed every second of creating this!
