Economic Development General Economic Development Riverside County business requires State and federal policies enabling businesses to thrive in a competitive regional and global economy and a comprehensive strategy for local governments to achieve each community’s unique economic goals. The GCVCC acknowledges the unique needs of our region with vastly different economies routed deeply in Agriculture to the east, and tourism to the west, with other burgeoning economies such as alternative energy and remote workforce opportunities developing. The GCVCC works closely with our partners at the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership and other county and municipal economic development professionals to pursue development opportunities and sound local and regional policies that encourage growth and support the local small business owner that represents the backbone of our local economy.

Positions ED-1: Support State and local government fiscal reform that result in better land use decisions that provide stable funding through identifiable source(s) and a public policy environment conducive to meeting the region’s infrastructure maintenance, rebuilding, and expansion; transportation; housing; and workforce education needs. ED-2: Support Economic development programs that take into account the current workforce trends, including the need to emphasize tourism, healthcare, agriculture, and emerging remote workforce opportunities. ED-3: Support robust evaluation of regulatory impacts on housing supply, infrastructure development, and other critical land uses, and on business and the economy, and oppose such action when burdensome. ED-4: Monitoring action at the federal and State level that create divergent and conflicting laws and seeking resolution to laws that create confusion and additional work for small business. ED-5: Supporting Federal and State research and development investments, job credit proposals, and other strategies that will support growth in industry clusters that produce high multiplier effects and strengthen regional competitiveness. ED-6: Supporting statewide coordinated economic development goals that allow for regional coordination to remain competitive in a global marketplace. ED-7: Support economic development programs within educational institutions and other community-based organizations to produce a more qualified workforce by ensuring effective and timely communication between businesses, workers, and educators, to ensure that education and training programs target the needs of business to provide a robust local talent pipeline for new and in-demand jobs.
