Our aim is to provide a range of vibrant activities for the local Woodlands community and beyond! The current programme runs from January to the end of March 2013. For up-to-date listings and more information:

The Albany Centre

The Albany Learning and Conference Centre is operated by Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector. Its main role is to provide a dedicated development centre for Glasgow’s voluntary sector organisations. The Albany Centre also functions as a venue for meetings, events and conferences.

The Enterprise Growth Fund

The Albany Centre Community Programme is supported by the Enterprise Growth Fund, a Scottish Government Fund. The Fund aims to make strategic investments in ambitious and enterprising third sector organisations across Scotland enabling them to develop, grow and become more sustainable.

Healthy and Happy

Personal Safety Workshops

Wise Women in partnership with GCVS are providing a series of Free Personal Safety Workshops for women in Glasgow. This 2 hour workshop will teach simple but effective techniques and shock tactics that will help you identify, avoid and escape potentially dangerous situations and is open to women of all ages, fitness levels and abilities. Zumba

Learn skills to help you stay safe

An easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness class that’s moving millions of people towards happier and healthier lives. Led by Azumi MacDonald. Ditch the workout - join the party!

Aikido

Aikido is a non-competitive martial art, based on the principles of non-violence and harmony. This weekly class is suitable for children aged 5 – 12. Led by Naoko Ueda. Dates: Saturdays, 10am - 11am Cost: £3 per session

Healthy and Happy

Tai Chi – with a difference!

A unique 5 week course - learn the basics of Tai Chi and improve posture and coordination by applying methods from the Alexander Technique. Taught by Michal Segal, experienced Teacher of Alexander Technique & Tai Chi Practitioner. Spaces limited to 10 participants. Alexander Technique

A four week introductory course. Learn the principles of the technique and its effective and practical application to sitting, standing, bending and walking. The Alexander Technique is a self-help method. It helps you to identify and learn how to prevent harmful postural habits that aggravate or cause stress, pain and under-performance. Taught by Michal Segal. Spaces limited to 10 participants. Community Focus

Community Radio Workshops

An 8 week course of community radio workshops for local people of all ages. Learn how to develop, produce and present a radio programme. Create a radio feature celebrating people, groups and organisations in the Woodlands area. Led by Sunny Govan 103 Community Radio 103.5FM. Community Focus

Broken Biscuits Cookery Club: withTom Shields

Journalist and food-lover Tom Shields hosts his monthly cookery club at The Albany Centre. A community project on a tight budget supported by help from local businesses. Families are invited to come together to find out about tasty food through lively demonstration and hands-on experience. Suitable for adults and children aged 5+.

Japanese Children’s Club

A weekly club for children with Japanese mother tongue. Coordinated by the Scottish Japanese Residents Association. Dates: Saturdays, 1:30pm – 3:30pm

Woodlands & Park Community Council Meetings

Community councils serve to represent local views to local and central government.The meetings for Woodlands and Park Community council take place at The Albany Centre and are open to the public. Dates: Second Wednesday of the month, 7:30pm – 9pm. Visit www.woodlandsparkcc.org.uk for details. 5

How to get started in TV

As part of the 2013 Glasgow Youth Film Festival, a panel of industry experts are gathering at The Albany Centre to talk about their experiences of working in TV. They’ll talk about how they got their lucky break and what they’re looking for in new talent. Guests include Andrew Snowball (Creative Director of Lion TV Scotland) and producer/director Laura Harding (Come Dine with Me). For young people aged 15 – 24.

Children’s Drama and Art

Free drama and art classes for children aged 8 - 13. Ignite Theatre offers specialist workshops for children and young people so they can have fun, make new friendships and develop their creativity.
