(25 Nov-1 Dec 2013) Throw your very own Book Week Scotland event this year by organising a Big Book Bash! From book swaps in the office to poetry slams in your local café, Scottish Book Trust (SBT) have lots of ideas to get you started. Simply register your interest and SBT will tell you more. Glasgow Centre for Population Health are collecting stories to gain insights into what makes the city and its citizen’s tick. To get you thinking, here are some of the questions they’d like you to consider while you create your work: How does Glasgow make you feel? How does the city influence your thoughts, emotions, hopes, fears, health and wellbeing? We’re looking for a varied range of contributions, from sounds and images to poetry and photographs. Challenge Poverty Week The Poverty Alliance is co-ordinating Challenge Poverty Week which will take place from 13th-19th October 2013. Centred around the United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which takes place annually on 17th October, Challenge Poverty Week will bring together a wide range of groups and individuals to highlight what is being done to tackle poverty in Scotland and to build momentum for greater action. Poverty in Scotland Update Child Poverty Action Group in Scotland (and their partners) have updated their summary briefing on poverty in Scotland which gives the latest key facts on the extent, trends, causes and impact of poverty. College Emerging Leadership Programme - Transforming Potential This programme is designed for those who are relatively new to leadership roles (from head of section to senior management team) with the optimism and creative capacity to develop the college sector of the future. Consultation Tax free childcare consultation The UK Government is consulting on the issue of Tax Free Childcare, which they propose to introduce as a policy to help ease the burden that many working parents face when it comes to childcare. The proposal is for the Government to provide 20% of working families’ childcare costs, subject to an annual limit of £1,200 contribution from the Government for each child. This is equivalent to basic rate tax relief of childcare costs of up to £6,000 a year. More...
