The Albany Centre
The Albany Learning and Conference Centre is operated by Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector. Its main role is to provide a dedicated development centre for Glasgow’s voluntary sector organisations. The Albany Centre also functions as a venue for meetings, events and conferences.
The Enterprise Growth Fund
The Albany Centre Community Programme is supported by the Enterprise Growth Fund, a Scottish Government Fund. The Fund aims to make strategic investments in ambitious and enterprising third sector organisations across Scotland enabling them to develop, grow and become more sustainable.

Healthy and Happy
Broken Biscuits Cookery Club: with Tom Shields
Journalist and food-lover Tom Shields hosts the first ‘Broken Biscuits Cookery Club’. So-called because it is a community project on a tight budget supported by help from local businesses. Families are invited to come together to find out about tasty food through lively demonstration and some hands-on experience - followed by a convivial meal and compulsory conversation! Date: Saturday 17th November, 11am - 2pm Cost: £10 (parent and child ticket)
Our first guest chef is Monir, the culinary genius behind the Mother India and Wee Curry Shop restaurants. Monir will show how to create delicious meals from simple ingredients.
Aikido
Aikido is a non-competitive martial art, based on the principles of non-violence and harmony. This weekly class is suitable for children aged 5 – 12.

Create great states and bouncebackability with NLP
NLP is an incredibly powerful discipline that works from the premise that life doesn’t have to be difficult! No matter how well we are doing in life, we all know somewhere deep down that life could be easier, better, more enriching! This special, one day workshop will teach you how NLP and gentle hypnosis techniques can help you to create the mind-states that you desire.
The day is presented by Gillian McCamley of Mind Vitality and Lynn Obrien of Transformation in Mind, and follows from our hugely successful taster sessions.

Zumba!
An easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness class that’s moving millions of people towards happier and healthier lives. Led by Azumi MacDonald Dates: Thursdays, 6:15pm – 7:15pm (except holidays - see page 10) Cost: £3
Ditch the workout - join the party!
Fitness Training with David Johnston, Express Train Introduction to Exercise Gentle exercise class aimed at those looking to live a healthier lifestyle. Dates: Tuesdays 6pm – 7pm (except holidays - see page 10)
Circuit Training Group fitness training class - an ideal alternative to boot-camp during the winter months. Dates: Tuesdays, 7pm – 8pm (except holidays - see page 10) High Intensity Interval Training As the name states – this is an intense workout for those with high fitness levels. Dates: Thursdays, 7:30pm – 8:30pm (except holidays - see page 10) Cost:: £5 per session (£3 student / unwaged)

Gentle one hour friendly walks for all ages and abilities – departing from outside the Albany Centre.

Weight Loss Challenge
Take steps to a healthier lifestyle and meet new people
Join the 10 week Weight Loss Challenge and find the inspiration to achieve your weight loss goals. Receive a personalised wellness evaluation and Tanita Scale report, nutrition information – all within a fun, group environment. Led by Mandi Moore, Independent Herbalife distributor. Learn how to cook simple, healthy and delicious meals on a budget. Trained chefs Jamie and Matt will show you how it’s done - demonstrating their skills in the Albany kitchen and providing recipes to take home and try yourself! Dates: Vegetarian meals High energy meals

Violence against disabled women
Wise Women pro-actively address women's fears and experiences of violence and crime by providing free workshops to women living in local communities in Glasgow. This presentation is particularly useful to services working with disabled people and those working with issues surrounding discrimination, violence and abuse. Wise Women are also leading a number of personal safety workshops and presentations at The Albany in February / March 2013. Date: Saturday 26th January 2013 1pm – 3pm

Musical Theatre – acting through singing
This course will look at the links between drama and singing, using some of musical theatre's best known repertoire. (Les Miserables, Phantom, Cats, Evita etc)
The sessions are suitable for experienced and nonexperienced singers alike. All you need is a love of singing and musical theatre! It will end with a sharing for friends and family. Ages 14+. Led by Rona Topaz.

A six-week Spanish language course for beginners. Learn essential conversation skills, including greetings, personal information, family, and food and drink. Ages 14 + Led by Helen Lobit.

British Sign Language
The aim of this course is to introduce you to BSL and Deaf culture at basic level, including the concept of fingerspelling and basic conversation in BSL. Ages 14+. Led by Clare Canton.

Universal Comedy workshops
Comedy workshops for people with ill health (physical /mental) aimed at improving confidence and self-esteem and enabling participants to see the funny in situations. The sessions are coordinated by Universal Comedy – a charity and social enterprise based in Finnieston, Glasgow.
Learn about creating comedy material from your own experiences, how to structure comedy material, writing jokes, performance tips and where to progress to if you want to continue writing/performing following these workshops. Tutored by professional stand-up comedians Steven Dick and Viv Gee the sessions will provide plenty of opportunities to try out your developing comedy material in a supportive environment and will also be a right good laugh!

University of Glasgow Lectures
The Centre for Open Studies (formerly DACE) at the University of Glasgow is delighted to present this short programme of free lectures in collaboration with the Albany Centre. The Centre for Open Studies delivers courses for adults and day events in a wide range of subjects on and off campus in Glasgow and the West of Scotland. Reminiscence Sessions at the Albany Cafe
Meet with other members of the community to share stories and memories, over a cup of tea and a cake at The Albany Cafe. Each session will centre around a different themed ‘Reminiscence Kit’ provided by Glasgow Museums. Mon 12th November 2.30pm - 4.00pm Cafes Kit - Do you remember your first ice cream sundae? Community Council Meetings
