Managing culture and building resilience

This two-day course will enable leaders and managers to take a step back and look at their organisation with fresh eyes - so that they can develop a resilient organisation. Almost all organisations and teams now need to do things differently in response to the sluggish economic situation. The course draws upon theories about organizational culture, how organisations change and provides practical tools for managers to use for building resilience in as leaders, with their teams and in the organisation. The two day course will be followed up with an individual coaching session for each participant. Learning objectives: 1. To enable managers to explore the wider map of organisational culture and change 2. To explore how managers can create an environment that enables people to flourish 3. To give managers ways of working with resilience with their teams and organisation as a whole.

At the end of the course everyone will leave with a plan for impacting on their culture and building resilience.

Ideally please consider having a pair of senior staff from your organisation as this will maximise the ability to integrate the learning. Click here to book places. Please state the course name and the date you wish to attend

A five day course facilitated by organisational development experts

A FIVE DAY COURSE: Wednesday 15th January 2014 Thursday 16th January 2014 Wednesday 19th February 2014 Thursday 20th February 2014 Wednesday 2nd April 2014 (9:30am – 4:30pm)

Developing your organisation is a constant process, and especially important when the economy is stagnating. This programme provides you with expertly-facilitated time out to learn about organisational development.

We use a variety of learning tools, processes and organisational change theories in a series of modules and coaching sessions. And crucially, over the duration of the learning programme, you will actually work upon an organisational development initiative that is tailored to your own organisation’s needs. By learning together with other organisations on the programme you will broaden your applied working knowledge about how change happens, as well as creating a network of peers who are sharing the challenge. The programme takes five days, spread over three months. We start with a two-day module, followed by individual coaching sessions, then another two-day module, more coaching and a final review day. To get the best from this programme, we encourage organisations to send two participants at management / development worker level who can work together in implementing the planned organisational change that comes out of this learning.

Effective management of people and performance A one day course in behaviour management

Please state the course name and the date you wish to attend

Most managers and supervisors face the same question, “How do I get people to give their best efforts in their jobs and to the organisation?”

The subject that managers must be most expert in is how to create a work environment that brings out the best in people every day. What you will learn: • What is performance management • Why people do what they do. Skills FTO • The 5- step process for rapid change Development Eligible Scotland • Distinguish between results and behaviours • Why managing by results alone is ineffective and costly • What are behaviours and why you cannot manage non behaviours • How to analyse basic performance trends • How to use the power of positive reinforcement and avoid the common mistakes. At the end of this course you will have: • A scientific model for analysing performance issues • An understanding of the key stages in the performance management process • Be able to provide positive reinforcement that maximizes performance Trainer: Consultant trainer Iain Clague

Child Protection: technology, internet and social media

COSTS: FREE

Friday 15th November 2013 (9.30am - 4.30pm)

The internet is such an integral part of children and young people’s lives and it opens up so many educational and social opportunities, giving them access to a world of information and experiences. As technology advances, the ways in which we communicate, receive and send information constantly change. This provides a great opportunity for organisations to promote their activities and communicate easily with members but it can also put children and young people at considerable risk, which is why safeguards must be put in place.

Whether on a computer at school, a laptop at home, a games console or mobile phone, children and young people are increasingly accessing the internet whenever they can and wherever they are. As you would protect children and young people in the real world, you will want to make sure that they are safe whatever they are doing. Click here to book places.

February / March 2014 DATE TBC Click here to book places. Please state the course name and the date you wish to attend

To help you carry out your duties effectively as a trustee, it is important to know what is expected of you by your executive team, your fellow trustees and the staff of your organisation. A big part of that is how best to use your own skills, knowledge and life experience in the role of Trustee. Early in 2014, for one day, we will be focussing the expertise of the Albany on the role of a trustee and the relationships that make it so rewarding.

TRUSTEE T RUSTEE TR USTEE TRU STEE TRUS TEE

In the morning, we will look at the business, management, governance, and legal requirements. In the afternoon we will concentrate on the ambassadorial role of trustees – what’s involved and the staff/executive/board interfaces.

The Trustee Day morning and afternoon sessions of workshops frame a discussion panel event when you will have the opportunity to quiz experts and experienced trustees, and discuss problems with your peers.

We hope that you will also tell us about the sorts of follow up workshops that the Albany can host to make life a wee bit easier for you. We have in mind subjects like – what makes a good induction and refresher session; diversity - does your board reflect the community it serves; catch up and cope with sector changes. Workshops and discussion will be led by experts from the voluntary sector and statutory bodies.
