GCVS is now working with our membership to deliver expert training

GCVS has delivered training to voluntary and community organisations in Glasgow and beyond for almost twenty years. For the past four of those years we have owned and operated the Albany Learning and Conference Centre, and our courses and learning events have begun to earn a reputation throughout Scotland. In this programme, we are taking this service to another level again, by utilising some of the skills and knowledge that lie within our member organisations.

Recently, we contacted our 600-strong membership, and asked them to express an interest in delivering select training courses for us. We did so in the knowledge that the sector is full of people with specialist expertise - expertise that other organisations could and should be able to benefit from. Our two conditions for accepting submissions were: 1) that the training is useful and necessary for our Third Sector audience, and 2) that the person tutoring is experienced in delivering training.

We thus have six new courses in this calendar that are delivered by some of our member groups. These are noted in the course descriptors.

Flexible Training Opportunities can help your training budget go further.

Up to £5000 towards your organisation’s training costs!

GCVS has teamed up with Skills Development Scotland to help you to access potential training rebates through Flexible Training Opportunities. They will refund 50% of the cost of up to 10 training courses – at up to £500 per course.

So, for example, if your training costs £600, Skills Development Scotland will refund £300. If it costs £1200, they will refund up to £600. Any Scottish company with fewer than 100 employees can apply. Beneficiaries can include volunteers with your organisation.

The most important criteria for a positive decision is that you can make a business case for your training.

How do you apply for this funding for the training in this brochure?

We have negotiated to make it as hassle-free as possible:

1. Simply look for the Skills Development Scotland logo against the course descriptors in this brochure. It looks like this: Skills FTO Development Scotland

Eligible

2. If the logo is present, then the course will be considered under the Flexible Training Opportunities scheme.

3. Apply to Skills Development Scotland, stating the training you or your staff wish to undertake. They will take you through the information they need, and have a decision within five days.

Further information together with an application form can be found under Flexible Training Opportunities at: www.skillsdevelopmentscotland.co.uk

4. If you would like advice before applying, please contact John Lindsay at Skills Development Scotland. Tel: 0800 783 6000 or 0141 842 3596 Email: John.Lindsay@sds.co.uk

5. If your attendance at the training course is dependent upon getting this funding, we will be happy to hold you a provisional spot on the training course. Just be sure to confirm your attendance with us after you receive your funding.

Check your ILA eligibility The majority of the courses in this calendar qualify for Individual Learning Account funding.

You must be over 16 and have an income of £22,000 a year or less, or be on benefits, and have no degree qualification, to be eligible to get up to £200 towards the costs of learning or training. Wednesday 12th June 2013 (9:30am – 5:30pm)

Budgeting effectively is one of the cornerstones of any well-managed organisation. This practical and participative 1day course is specifically designed to identify all the issues you need to consider when constructing an annual budget for your organisation.

A budget generally is made up of 2 separate components – Income and Expenditure and Cash Flow. This course demonstrates how they differ and highlights the importance of good cash management. Funding applications are increasingly more demanding with respect to the amount of financial information required to support applications. The latter part of the day demonstrates how to adapt your budget and periodic accounts in order to reflect the effects a successful funding application has on your business in order to clearly show the benefits of the award.
