A FREE, monthly expert funding and governance surgery from GCVS, exclusively for Glasgow’s voluntary and community organisations. What is First Tuesday?

Tuesday First

The expert growth surgery from GCVS

First Tuesday is a free service from GCVS, aimed at helping Glasgow’s voluntary and community organisations to survive and prosper. It takes place, where this is possible, on the first Tuesday of each month at the Albany Learning and Conference Centre.

Funding sessions

First Tuesday funding sessions take place in the morning and are tailored to needs of the participants attending. Typically, we feature help and advice on subjects such as:

. . . . . .

Funding searches using our online tool First Funding Stop Cash flow and developing funding strategies One-to-one support with applications The application process Reporting back to funders Where to go for other information, such as funding alerts

Governance and / or start-up sessions

These sessions take place in the afternoon and consist of a mix of advice, information and practical assistance for new and existing groups. The topics we cover include:

. . . .

Applying for Charitable Status - with assistance in helping you understand the OSCR application process.

Your responsibilities as a Charity Trustee, the roles and responsibilities of office bearers and what their legal responsibilities are. Annual reporting and monitoring - what you need to provide to OSCR to ensure you are complying with their requirements. Making changes - the constitution, your legal form, etc and what and when you need to let OSCR know.

Who can attend?

The First Tuesday sessions are open to any voluntary or community organisation in Glasgow with an annual turnover of less than £300,000.

This limit is because the focus will be upon sourcing funding and other types of help for smaller organisations.

When do they take place?

Where possible, on the first Tuesday of each month, at the Albany Learning and Conference Centre.

Of course, staff holidays and other factors may mean an occasional change of date. We will fully publicise each session in the month before it takes place, including the theme for the session and whether there are guest speakers.

We ask you to supply details in advance of your particular concerns, so that we can best answer your specific issues on the day.

A GCVS service, with financial support from GCC Integrated Grant Fund

How do I book my place?

The next session takes place on Tuesday 7th October 2014.

E-flyers such as the one your are reading go out every month to publicise the next First Tuesday session. We attach a Word booking form with these e-flyers.

If you don’t have a Word Booking form, contact: john.robertson@gcvs.org.uk The First Tuesday sessions are also advertised through the GCVS websites, e-bulletins and email.

We take bookings on a firstcome basis, and close at 12 respondents for each session.

Each session is free. However, GCVS will charge a £40 cancellation fee for any organisation that books and does not attend. The exception will be organisations booking and cancelling within five working days of the event.

Stronger Together

Our calendar now features a core of training delivered by the three organisations who make up Glasgow’s Third Sector Interface.

Scotland’s thirty-two Interfaces work to support, promote, develop and represent the work and interests of the Third Sector, of social enterprises, and to promote and support volunteering across all sectors. Typically, they feature representation from local Councils for Voluntary Service, Volunteers Centres, local Social Enterprise Networks and Local Social Economy Partnerships. The work of the Glasgow Third Sector Interface is informed by the Glasgow Third Sector Forum. The Forum aggregates the voice and represents the interests of Glasgow’s Third Sector. See more at www.g3sf.org Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector owns and operates the Albany Learning and Conference Centre. We are a 600-strong, member organisation, and the main development agency and advocate for voluntary and community organisations in Glasgow. Community Enterprise in Scotland exists to provide training, support and financial support for social and community enterprises. For 28 years, CEiS has managed loan funds, issued development grants and provided enterprise support. It also organises events and innovative employability programmes to help people back to work, and provides training. Volunteer Glasgow is the operating name of the Volunteer Centre, which was established in 1970. In addition to promoting and supporting volunteering, Volunteer Glasgow has a successful track record in providing community development, befriending, mentoring, training, community care and advisory services to the general public and to a range of client groups across Glasgow.

Children, Young People and Families Getting it Right For Third Sector Providers GCVS Everyone’s Children project is funded by the Scottish Government to promote third sector services for children, families and young people from the early years of life into early adulthood in the Glasgow area.

The project supports organisations delivering childcare, family support, youth work, health and wellbeing, leisure and recreation, cultural, inclusion and other services which support the wellbeing of children, young people and their families in line with the Scottish Government’s policy framework Getting It Right For Every Child(GIRFEC).

We are organising a free training and information programme for Third Sector organisations in Glasgow, and have already run several very successful sessions. Wednesday 22 October Wednesday 26 November

from 9.00am – 1.00pm from 9.00am – 5.00pm

The content of the future programme will be shaped by the analysis of research we have recently carried out in the Third Sector.

Possible topics include: current policy and practice development; key roles in GIRFEC e.g. the named person; assessing and reviewing needs; evaluation and monitoring impact; securing sustainable investment in the sector; and children and young people’s rights.

We will also look at how to support the sector to increase their influence and involvement in planning local services and promoting wellbeing enabled communities. Proposed dates for the training are as follows: Wednesday 28 January Wednesday 4 March

from 9.00am – 5.00pm from 9.00am – 1.00pm

Details of the content of each training event will be advertised nearer the time and can be booked once advertised.

If you would like more information about the programme as it develops, would like to sign up for our quarterly newsletter and fortnightly news round-up, or would like to discuss what the project means for your organisation, contact Fariha Thomas, Everyone’s Children Capacity Building Officer on 0141 332 2444 or fariha.thomas@gcvs.org.uk For further information about the Project’s work go to www.gcvs.org.uk/engagement/everyones_children.
