MONTH IN REVIEW As one of the newer kids on the box block, we’ve certainly had a lot to learn along the way. This month proved it more than ever, when we hit close to ten times the number of subscribers we had our first month. Yeah, you read that right. Almost ten times. As you can imagine, it’s been thrilling, and a lot of hard work, and completely worth it. From deciding to surprise unsuspecting subscribers with tickets for Avengers: Age of Ultron to taking that first sip of coffee out of our newly minted Breakstuff Club mugs, we loved every minute of putting the April box together and are excited to see what you think about this month. Remember to come by and say hi if you’re at Denver Comic Con. We’ll be sponsoring the VIP opening event and hanging out at our booth all weekend! We’ve got a couple more exclusives lined up for the con, including a limited-edition Denver Comic Con poster and a variant cover of the DCC Souvenir Program Guide. Plus, you know, it’d be cool to see those of you in the Geek Nation in action! We think it’s safe to say that our May is just as mayhem-filled as the last month. Enjoy!

If misery loves company, then Terribly Odd must find himself uncomfortably surrounded at times. Raised on the warm waters of the Atlantic, he began schooling at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Discovering that “fine art” came with a price, he left the school and the cutthroat, egotistic atmosphere it encapsulated. Thinking graphic design would be a better fit, he made the transition and began laying the framework of the art he produces today.
Terribly Odd says that his pop culture creations happened very naturally, blending the graphic design elements with his traditional artistic training to create relatable yet dark characters. He is heavily influenced by artists known for creating work that is simplistic in color styling, but arrestingly complex in content, like Jose Posada, Edward Gory, Keith Haring, and Harry Clark. This influence is present in all of Terribly Odd’s work, but more so in his upcoming projects, which stray from the pop culture plays for which he’s best known.
Current works from Terribly Odd can be seen at the Pop Gallery in Downtown Disney, where he will also open a solo show on October 17th. The Day of the Dead theme will feature a full-scale takeover of the gallery space, and promises to be nothing short of incredible. He is also working on some website updates that will allow for a more in depth look at his artwork, as well as an expanded shop. Visit terriblyodd.com or follow @terriblyodd on Instagram and Twitter to find out more.

THE COOLEST CON YOU’LL PROBABLY NEVER GET TO ATTEND
What originally started out in 1995 as the Consumer Electronics Show has morphed into the most prestigious gaming and entertainment trade show in the country: the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3. It is here, at the Los Angeles Convention Center, that all of the biggest names in the industry come together to talk tech, showcase new and groundbreaking ideas, and release never-before-seen products. The good news is that this means you know when to expect all of the hot new things to hit the market. The bad news? A ticket for the three-day event will set you back $800-$1000, and you can only get one if you’ve got the absolute best of connections. It’s that kind of exclusive. If you’re one of the lucky 48,000 who gets through those doors from June 16th to the 18th, we do hope you’ll think of us…

REBELS REVEALED
THE DROID YOU’RE LOOKING FOR FUEL ORIGINS:
Fuel was originally built as a fierce warrior, holding the power to destroy mutant armies with just the flick of his laser. He found himself drawn to the passive side of life and abandoned his illustrious fighting career to embark on endeavors of the geeky kind. What he came across was a treasure trove of incredible people with fun games, amazing art, and collectible toys he wanted to share with the world! Thus began Fuel’s post as the Geek-In-Command of Geek Fuel Headquarters, where he shares his love of all things amazing with the Geek Nation.

Geek Guide
On Being a Geek
Growing up a "girl geek" and not realizing it was probably the best thing that could've happened to me. I don't remember ever feeling like I wasn't cool because of whatever I was into at the time. I didn't realize until high school that seeing Lord of the Rings 22 times in theaters was, in fact, not cool. (I still think otherwise. LotR is awesome.) You know what, though? I enjoyed my childhood. I enjoyed waking up early and playing video games on one of the consoles I had. I never felt singled out or "weird"... and I can say that it's because I was so fully immersed in geek culture that I just didn't know that there was anything other than that. It wasn't until I was in my early 20s and started getting the dreaded, "Oh, is your boyfriend into that?", that I realized that being a female in geek culture is kind of hard. I constantly had to prove myself and explain that I was there because I genuinely liked the culture. I've never had ulterior motives. I'm a geek through and through. I decided to be proactive and face those kinds of comments head on. Over the last couple of years, the community has really grown and changed. I feel like it's a lot easier to be a girl in geekdom - it's so much more diverse and more accepting. Now, I rarely get questioned on my authenticity and it seems like girls in geekdom are the norm. Plus, it's such a great time to be a geek. We have new Star Wars coming out, awesome superhero movies, great games, and some really amazing comic books. Geekdom is moving forward in leaps and bounds and while some aspects might still be in the dark ages, change is happening and it's becoming an even better community.
