A people-first transportation system
Seeking a trusted advisor, the City of Boise engaged Gehl and Sam Schwartz Engineering to create the visionary Boise Transportation Action Plan (TAP). The TAP is a roadmap to a modern, well-balanced transportation system that provides real mobility choice and creates great places. The Plan expresses the people’s vision, values, and goals developed over the last 7 years of planning work by the city and its transportation partners.

With Boise’s community and future growth in mind, the TAP’s intended outcomes include:
1. A community that is energized by a collective vision for a modern transportation system and motivated to help implement it.
2. S treets and pathways designed and built for current and future generations of residents.
Real Transportation Choices
Boise aspires to offer a range of options for how people move. Through the TAP, Boise will offer its citizens a range of mobility options that don’t require sacrificing convenience or comfort.
Real mobility choice means that all citizens have the option to bike, walk, ride, or drive safely and comfortably.
To realize this vision, the team identified a set of actions or ‘Moves’ that describe strategic objectives and provide a framework for prioritizing transportation projects within the City of Boise. The Moves articulated

The Mobility Moves
1. Using the city’s planning framework and geospatial analysis, Gehl developed a classification of ‘Place Types” and specific locations to assist in the prioritization of ped-bike improvements.
2. To assist in the communication of the TAP to citizens, Gehl developed a set of Movility ‘Moves’: City-wide initiatives that can be used to prioritize capital investment and to monitor changes in travel behavior.
