Style Men’s Fashion–There’s an argument to be made that there is nothing more stylish and essential for a man than a tuxedo. When you think of a tuxedo, your probably thinking black and traditional The new trend for tux’s, has now given men the licsense to use different colors and and different collar styles. The idea here is that less is more. It’s more of a European look men are going for. “There’s a big movement toward healthy living now, and guys want to show that they look healthy,” says designer John Varvatos. “For that, the fitted, proportional Tux’s is what guy’s are going for. It’s not about the loose, baggy clothing anymore.”If you’re looking for inspiration, the fitted, tight. tappered look is hot this fall, as men are dressing in stylish Tuxedos this year. The sleek, slender looks is definitely the way to go” reiterateds Varvatos. It’s OK to sport the tux, to an event this year. Or wear a different colored jacket that contrasts with the pants, whether they’re solid or patterned. Accessories are a must-have, as they are used to bring out individual style, whether it’s the bow tie, shirt selection or pocket square. Varvatos’s says bring on if your going to dress in a tux. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns. A pocket square doesn’t necessarily have to match the shirt. The contrast shows off your colorful style and individuality.

Sex& Relationships

Oh, the joys of sex and relationships. Some men know what they want truly from a woman, while others are still trying to discover their boundaries. After surveying agroup of young men, we found out that men like their lady to be a lady on thestreet as well as in the bedroom, while some men prefer a lady in the streets andan uninhibited sex vixen behind closed doors. Physical Attraction The face and body is always a given when you meet someone, but this year it’s all about a woman’s height and the “ass.” Of course, attraction varies from person to person, but tall women with perfectly shaped derrières out numbered the face and boobs when it comes to physical attraction. Who knew? relationship Needs Men want self-sufficient, secure and confident women. But just because you’reconfident doesn’t mean you need to be conservative. Men want a woman who knows what she wants and knows how to have a good time. If a guy is givingyou all of his time and attention, then there’s no need for jealousy. Yep, most men vow to cut the cord when a woman is considered to be the “jealous type.” Sexual Wants Nipples, nipples, nipples. Not yours, ladies, the men are all about foreplay, and it’s all about taking care of his nipples. Sucking, licking and even biting on a man’s nipples is a sure-fire way to relax and arouse him. But you don’t have to wait until you’re having sex to play with his nipples. Give his nipples a quick tug after he’s been working out, in the shower or first thing in the morning, and watch his facelight up as if his favorite sports team has just won a game.

A MAN’S DRINK The Manhattan. Men have been opting for the Manhattan since 1870 and it was originated at the Manhattan Club in New York City, where it was invented by Dr. iain Marshall for a banquet hosted by Jennie Jerome (Lady Randolph Churchill, Winston's mother) in honor of presidential candidate Samuel J. Tilden. The Manhattan is a popular and classic whiskey and sweet vermouth cocktail. When properly built, the Manhattan is the only cocktail that can slug it out toe-to-toe with the martini. It is bold and fortifying, yet as relaxing as a deep massage and gents can’t seem to get enough of it.

Combine the vermouth, bourbon whiskey, and bitters with 2 - 3 ice cubes in a mixing glass. Stir gently, don't bruise the spirits and cloud the drink. Place the cherry in a chilled cocktail glass and strain the whiskey mixture over the cherry. Rub the cut edge of the orange peel over the rim of the glass and twist it over the drink to release the oils but don't drop it in. • 3/4 oz sweet vermouth • 2 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey • 1 dash Angostura® bitters • 1 maraschino cherry • 1 twist orange peel There you have it Gents! Drink up and enjoy the the Manhattan! GentlemensGuideLA.com

The Man Has TUX STYLE Gent’s Tuxedos for Fall/Winter 2013 By Bill Green

I

n the coming months of fall and winter, gents will be invited to many events, formal engagements, and black tie outtings to attend, so what’s a gent to wear? If he wants to be the man with style and dress for the upcoming occasions, it’s simple he’ll invest in a tuxedo. There’s an argument to be made that there is nothing more stylish and essential for a man than a tuxedo. After all, a man should never look better than he will look when he’s wearing one. They’re also extremely flattering to any male figure and are so ingrained in our menswear history that they will never ever go out of style. Surely, it’s worth an investment. Most gents are likely to be clad in what is surely among the more foolproof dress uniforms ever devised: the tuxedo. Yet few will manage to get it right. Why is that? Like most dress codes these days, the rules for formal wear have gone slack. You now have a license to dress with more personal style than ever, as long as you really bring it. Gentlemen’s Guide (GG) shows you and gives you tips on what to 10 GentlemensGuideLA.com

wear in our 2013 Fall and Winter Styles from the color to the collar of your tux, and how to wear it perfectly. From a purist standpoint I’m sure that I’m expected to tell you that you should invest in a black tuxedo with all the usual trimmings – grosgrain notch lapels, matching bow tie, single stripe trousers and no cummerbund. But seriously, how boring is that? But, if you what to jazz it up, then you guys will want to take this week’s style journey with me. There are plenty more choices to be made in regards to color rather than just black, such as light grey blues and tan and ways to wear it. But first, and as always, let’s make sure you get the basics down. Of course, I’m taking about fit. And this reigns true over all price ranges. It’s right that you should probably look to spend a little more than you usually do on this piece of formal wear, because it’s the one moment in your life you’re supposed to look invincible. Quality will play a big role in that. However, quality is additional whereas fit is a must. Every time. So I have no

GentlemensGuideLA.com 11

problem when you spend within your means on a tuxedo, my only issue is when you decide not to factor any of your budget on tailoring to confirm a perfect fit. It’s important to decide what sort of details you want before you go for a change of color. There’s nothing worse than buying an alternative tuxedo and hating wearing it because you’re not a fan of satin shawl collars. If in doubt always go for a grosgrain notch lapel as it flatters every man’s frame. Despite being given what seem to be the easy and “perfect thing to wear,” both the regular guy and celebrities are certain to commit blunders when wearing the tuxedo says, Fran Lebowitz, the humorist and herself a tuxedo wearer. “Men will wear their pants too long and puddled on their shoes, as Brad Pitt did at the recent Screen Actors Guild awards. They will wear business-like four-in-hand tie knots, as Robert De Niro routinely does, and not the requisite bow tie. They will turn up in a tuxedo that fit as though borrowed from the Dad, or in shirts with wing collars best left to maître, or in colors that make them look like Steve Van Zandt.” “That whole black shirt thing is terrible,” said the designer John Varvatos. “When you’re talking about these kind of elegant events that men have to attend, be elegant and don’t try so hard. The elegance of most of the women, the men should be a counterpoint to that.” Often enough these men display their “renegade” natures by adding loopy improvisations: sneakers or Samuel L. Jackson frock coats or open-necked shirts. They will monkey around in some way with monkey-suit perfection — unless, that is, they happen to be George Clooney. Mr. Clooney always looks Rat Pack immaculate. He has, of course, an obvious advantage. “George has an easy and understated elegance about him,” said Giorgio Armani, who has dressed the actor for years. “He wears the clothes rather than the clothes wearing him.” So, gents you can always look like you have style using these advice and tips when it comes to wearing a tuxedo for any event or engagement you may have to attend. n 12 GentlemensGuideLA.com

.A. Live is an entertainment complex in downtown Los Angeles adjacent to the Staples Center. L.A. Live cost approximately $2.5 billion and was developed by Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), Wachovia Corp, Azteca Corp and investment firm MacFarlane Partners with help from the Los Angeles taxpayers. Built to be the most entertaining place on the planet, LA Live is the new mecca for Angelinos and its guests to come together in the downtown area to eat, play, dine, wine, stay, see a concert, movie or sporting event. Initial construction at L.A. Live began in September 2005. The first phase opened in October 2007 and it contained the Nokia Theatre, the Nokia Plaza, a retail plaza, as well as an underground parking garage, holding a fraction of the project's expected total of 4,000 parking spaces. L.A. Live is also host to a set of mid to high scale dining including Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Katsuya, Lawry's, Rock'N Fish, Rosa Mexicano, The Farm of Beverly Hills, Trader Vic's, Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill, and Yard House.

By Jess Jimenez

This is a 40,000-square-foot open-air plaza that serves as the central meeting place for L.A. Live. The plaza provides a broadcast venue featuring giant LED screens as well as a red carpet site for special events. Nokia Plaza hosted the first WWE SummerSlam Axxess event on the weekend beginning August 22, 2009, leading up to the 2009 SummerSlam event on August 23 at the Staples Center. On many occasions, the plaza is the official red carpet premiere of movies and concerts in Los Angeles. At the time of print Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez were having their press conference here for their upcoming September 14, 2013 battle for the world championship.

Nokia Theatre and Club Nokia

Nokia Theatre is a music and theatre venue seating 7,100, while Club Nokia is a club venue with a seating capacity of 2,300 for live music and cultural events. The theatre has hosted the ESPY Awards since GentlemensGuideLA.com 35

2008. The first scheduled event held at Nokia Theatre was a concert featuring The Eagles and The Dixie Chicks on October 18, 2007. National events hosted since have included the American Music Awards on November 18, 2007. The venue has also hosted the finale of the seventh, eighth and ninth seasons of American Idol. Recording artist John Mayer's live album, “Where the Light Is: John Mayer Live in Los Angeles” was recorded at the Nokia Theatre. On March 11, 2008, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced with AEG that the venue would be the home to the Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony from 2008 until at least 2018. In addition, the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards were held at Nokia Theatre on September 12, 2010.

Grammy Museum

On May 8, 2007, it was announced that the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences would establish a museum dedicated to the history of the Grammy Awards. The museum opened on December 2008 for the Grammy Awards 50th anniversary. It consists of four floors with historical music artifacts. It has featured a number of exhibits, including the John Lennon, Songwriter exhibit, October 4, 2010–March 31, 2011. Embedded on the sidewalks at the LA Live streets are bronze disks, similar to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, honoring each year's top winners, Record of the Year, Best New Artist, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year.

Hotels and Residences

The centerpiece of the district is a 54-story, 1,001room two-hotel hybrid tower, constructed above the parking lot directly north of the Staples Center. Designed by Gensler and built by Webcor Builders, the skyscraper contains both an 879room JW Marriott Hotel on floors 3 through 21 and a 123-room Ritz-Carlton Hotel on floors 22 through 26. Floors 27 through 52 hold 224 Residences at the Ritz Carlton condominiums. The tower's architectural design evolves from a "geometric pattern of glittering, blue-tinted glass. Thirty-four different types of glass were installed to create the uniquely patterned facade. The project was completed in the first quarter of 2010.

ESPN Zone & Broadcasting Studios

The second phase of development included a 12,300-square-foot (1,140 m2) ESPN broadcast36 GentlemensGuideLA.com

Regal Entertainment Group

The $100 million, 140,000 square foot, Regal Entertainment Group movie complex includes 14 screens and 3,772 seats. It includes a threestory art-deco-style atrium and an 806-seat theater called the "Regal Premiere House" intended for "lucrative" premieres. The theater complex became the West Coast flagship location for Regal, the largest theater chain in the United States. The Michael Jackson film This Is It was the opening film at the theater.

Farmers Field & Future Expansion

Plans are being developed for the NFL to return to Los Angeles with a new stadium being planned on the campus, to be called Farmers Field. The Los Angeles City Council approved a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with AEG in a 12-0 vote on August 9, 2011. This non-binding MOU clears the way for AEG to start the next phase of the project, which is completing a development application and obtaining environmental clearances. The development application will include schematic designs of the stadium as well as an Environmental Impact Report. Once completed, the development application will be submitted to the City of Los Angeles for its consideration and possible approval. The stadium is anticipated to open in time for the 2016 NFL season. The Los Angeles Downtown News reported on November 11, 2009, that AEG plans to submit significant expansion plans to the Planning Department on November 12. It includes 332,618 square feet of office space and a 269,182-squarefoot broadcasting studio that could accommodate a nationwide cable television network, a 275-room hotel and a 25-story residential building with 65 units adjacent to the L.A. Live campus. With the termination of the proposed sale of AEG and the departure of Tim Leiweke, which were announced on March 14, 2013, the construction of Farmers Field appears unlikely.n

Is Floyd Mayweather Jr. the Best Boxer in the World? By Christine Luong

loyd Mayweather Jr. (born Floyd Joy Sinclair; February 24, 1977) has been a boxer all his life. Currently undefeated as a professional, he’s a five time-division world champion. The champion has won eight world titles since turning professional in 1996.

Mayweather has been the Ring magazine Fighter of the Year twice, (winning the award in 1998 and 2007) as well as the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) Fighter of the Year award in 2007 and the Best Fighter ESPY Award in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2013. GentlemensGuideLA.com 39

Mayweather is the WBC welterweight champion, WBA (Super) super welterweight champion, WBC Super welterweight champion, recipient of the WBC diamond super welterweight belt, current Ring #1 ranked welterweight, and Ring #1 ranked junior middleweight. He is considered by many to be the best pound-forpound boxer in the world. Financially, the champion tops the Forbes and Sports Illustrated lists of the 50 highest-paid athletes of 2012, and is expected to retain that honor this year. Mayweather comes from a family of gifted boxers. His father, Floyd Mayweather Sr. was a welterweight contender, and his uncle is a former IBO super-featherweight champion. Another uncle is a former World Boxing Council super-lightweight champion. Almost as soon as Mayweather Jr. could walk, his father introduced him to the gym. He was fitted for his first pair of boxing gloves when he was seven. Beginning as a four round fighter, Mayweather easily dominated his opponents in his first 19 amateur fights. After racking up an amateur record of 84-6, Mayweather made his professional debut in 1996 at the age of nineteen, fighting Roberto Apodaca, whom Mayweather beat by split decision. He then went on to tame the likes of Oscar Del La 40 GentlemensGuideLA.com

Hoya, Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, and most recently Canelo Alvarez. Mayweather kept the light-middleweight title after beating Alvarez by majority decision on September 14, 2013. The fight grossed a record-setting $150 million in pay-per-view sales. Many spectators hoped that Alvarez would finally be the one to defeat Mayweather, while others felt that Alvarez was too inexperienced to beat the champion. Some contend that in a future rematch, the tables would turn against Mayweather. After all, Alvarez would have a few years more experience and Mayweather would be past his prime. If this rising star couldn’t keep up with the top boxer, who can? It’s no secret that Mayweather is a great boxer. Boxing writer David Avila goes so far as to call Mayweather “a master of his craft.” The combination of his defense, skill, hand speed, and his intelligence make him unbeatable. According to Avila, one of Mayweather’s lesser-known qualities is that “He’s super intelligent. There’s this intelligence he doesn’t display.” Instead, Mayweather is known to talk trash and flash his money. Some even call him arrogant, but doesn’t the undisputed “best boxer in the world” have every right to be arrogant? Avila suggests that Mayweather “knows that people want to see him beat, so they’re going to pay money to see him beat.” But who will be the one to beat him? Boxing enthusiasts have been anticipating a matchup between Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao and Mayweather since 2009. Both fighters were largely considered the top

pound-for-pound fighters of their time. Negotiations for the fight were cancelled when Mayweather demanded Olympic-style random blood and urine tests. Pacquiao refused, citing a fear of needles and a superstitious belief that drawing blood too close to the fight would weaken him. Three years later, it seemed like the fight was close to happening, but ‘Money’ Mayweather only offered Pacquiao $30 million, while planning to keep an estimated $160 million in PPV earnings for himself. Pacquiao rejected that offer. Whether it is Pacquiao’s superstition or Mayweather’s greed, something has always prevented this fight from happening. After Juan Manuel Marquez delivered a brutal knockout to Pacquiao on December 8, 2012, much of the hype for a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight died down, along with whispered rumors that Mayweather was afraid of Pacquiao. After that embarrassing knockout, are there any boxing fans out there still eager to see Mayweather fight Pacquiao? Does Pacquiao stand a chance against Mayweather? Boxing writer Jesús Jiménez, publisher of Uppercut Boxing Magazine, thinks so. Jimenez states “Mayweather is great, but Pacquiao presents an interesting challenge for Mayweather. Jimenez went on further to say that “Mayweather still has yet to be truly challenged. Manny Pacquiao would be the ultimate challenge for Mayweather.” However, Avila disagrees.

But these are only speculations; the only way to know for certain is to watch the fight happen. So the question remains, will the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight ever take place? If not Pacquiao, then who will be the next challenger to face Mayweather? It seems Mayweather is running out of viable opponents. He is in his last remaining years of boxing, although he shows no signs of slowing down. In a press conference, the 36-year-old fighter said he would be getting back in the ring on May 3, 2014. Rumors are abuzz that his next bout will be against British boxer Amir Khan at the MGM Grand Arena. The 26-year-old Khan has a 28-3 record, with 19 wins by knockout. Alvarez had a much more impressive record of 42-1-1, with 30 wins by knockout and he was still no match for Mayweather. How can Khan stand a chance? Mosley couldn’t do it. Cotto couldn’t do it. Alvarez couldn’t do it. For years, people have been asking who will be the one to defeat Floyd Mayweather? Now the question becomes can anyone defeat Floyd Mayweather? n

“Mayweather is too strong. Their styles don’t match up. Pacquiao has this attacking style that is perfect for Mayweather.” GentlemensGuideLA.com 41

Topping Off The Charts: Robin Thicke Has Arrived Again! By Christine Luong

T

his past summer, Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” became a worldwide hit; topping the Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart and reaching the number one spot in 13 other countries. The song was nominated for Video of the Year, Best Male Video, and Best Collaboration. The 36-year-old singer has also been nominated for several other awards including the 2007 Best Male R&B Artist and the 2012 Centric Award. Thicke was born in sunny Los Angeles,

California and comes from a family of entertainers, his parents are actress-singer Gloria Loring, who appeared on U.S. daytime drama Days of Our Lives, and Canadian actor Alan Thicke, who is known for his role on the TV sitcom Growing Pains. Thicke is a dual Canadian and American citizen and resides in Vancouver, British Columbia. Thicke began dating his high school sweetheart, actress Paula Patton, at the age of 16 and eventually married her in 2005, they have a son, Julian Fuego Thicke, born April 6, 2010. In 2002, he debuted his single “When I Get You Alone”. The song was moderately successful, reaching the Top 20 in Australia, Belgium, and Italy, the Top 10 in New Zealand, and the Top 3 in the Netherlands. His first full-length album A Beautiful World, released in 2003, was not as successful. In 2005, he was signed to The Neptunes label Star Trak. Under Star Trak, he released his second album “The Evolution of Robin Thicke” in 2006. The album peaked at number five on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. During this time, he opened for such artists as John Legend and Beyoncé. His second single from that album, the ballad "Lost Without U", began getting a lot of radio airplay in Urban & Rhythmic stations

towards the end of 2006 and early 2007. With the assistance of radio airplay, the song became his breakout hit, reaching as high as number fourteen on the Billboard Hot 100, and number one on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, the first Caucasian male artist to top that chart since George Michael. With album sales over 1.5 million copies sold domestically after the rerelease as a Deluxe Edition (which includes three new bonus tracks) on February 13, 2007, “The Evolution of Robin Thicke” became a commercial success in the US.

Two songs on the album “Magic” and “The Sweetest Love” reached number two on the Urban AC Charts. He performed the two songs on ABC’s The Bachelor for the remaining female contestants. A year later, the singer released his fourth album “Sex Therapy”. It featured other artists such as Estelle, Snoop Dogg, Lil’ Wayne, and Nicki Minaj. In 2011, Thicke released his fifth studio album “Love After War,” which debuted at number 22 on the Billboard 200 and number six on the Top R&B/HipHop Albums.

Thicke released his third album “Something Else” in 2008. It reached number three on the Billboard 200 Charts and sold nearly 140,000 records the first week.

Thicke released his sixth studio album, Blurred Lines, in 2013. In an interview with “The Breakfast Club,” Thicke explained the album got this name because "we all think we're living either in a black or white world, or on a straight path, but most of us are living right in-between those straight lines. And everything you thought you knew, the older you get, you realize, 'Damn, I don't know nothing about this. I better pay attention, I better listen and keep learning.' That's what I've been realizing these past few years." The lead single also titled “Blurred Lines” features T.I. and Pharrell Williams. The music video for the song, released on March 20, 2013, featured scantly clothed models Emily Ratajkowski, Jessi M’Bengue, and Elle Evan. Thicke said he received permission from his wife before shooting the video. Critics say the video objectifies women and promotes rape culture. In defense, Thicke said the video was meant to be ironic and not meant to be taken seriously. He tells GQ, "We're the perfect guys to make fun of this. I've always respected women, Women and their bodies are beautiful. Men are always gonna want to follow them around.” Robin Thicke’s infamous performance of “Blurred Lines” with Miley Cyrus at the MTV Video Music Award became the most tweeted about event in history, with audiences criticizing the performance for being raunchy and sexist.

46 GentlemensGuideLA.com

Thicke revealed that his goal was to shock the audience, telling Star Magazine, “Yeah, we kind of knew when we were in rehearsal and we were like, ‘OK, if you touch me with your foam finger all over my crotch, obviously a few people are going to have something to say about this.’ But that was the whole point. I mean the whole point was to excite and provoke and entertain.” Thicke defended Cyrus stating that the performance was “ silly and funny, she was being humorous and naughty, but it wasn’t sexually charged at all. That’s who she is, that’s how she likes to dance, she was just being herself and I was just being myself.”

Besides audience criticism, Thicke has also come into some legal trouble with Blurred Lines. On August 15, Thicke filed a preemptive lawsuit against Marvin Gaye’s family requesting a ruling that Blurred Lines does not infringe on “Got to Give it Up.” Thicke reportedly offered members of Gaye’s family a six-figure sum to preempt a lawsuit, but they turned it down. When asked by TMZ whether the family will be suing, Gaye’s son responded with "What do you think?" before adding, "My counsel is right now in the process of taking care of business, and like I said, once again I'm here to uphold my father's legacy." n

Gents, Start Your Engines The New

Tesla Model S Has Arrived By Kaitlyn Fajilan

G

et ready for the newest in luxury electric cars to hit the street of Los Angeles. It’s been called revolutionary and it is the 21st century standard in car luxury. Motor Trend and Automobile magazine voted it as the Car of the Year for 2013, Consumer Reports gave it a 99 out of 100 rating, and Time magazine listed it as one of the best inventions of 2012 First displayed as a prototype at a Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009, the full-sized, four-door hatchback made its official U.S. debut in June of 2012 at Fremont, California. Now, lauded as the World Green Car of the Year (no tailpipe emissions or use of gasoline) and garnering a fivestar safety rating by the NHTSA, the electric Model S has taken the automobile world by a storm. The business magnate and inventor, Eon Musk (founded PayPal and SpaceX), stated that the new Tesla boasts a sleek, sexy exterior, an impressive electric power train, and a lithium-ion battery pack, an array of on-demand features, and unprecedented range and performance. Consequently, it’s being hailed as the upcoming, upscale electric vehicle for both A-listers and VIP gents. So why does the Tesla Model S manage to be above the rest? It has impressive speed, great mileage and safety, an excellent interior, and incomparable style. Additionally, its electric components means it is environmentally friendly—a pretty welcome sight in an age of petroleum skies and exhaust-filled atmosphere. Electric cars often get flak for limited range and battery development.

48 GentlemensGuideLA.com

Tesla Motors, fully aware of this marginalization, decided to add several dimensions of speed and energy to their new car in order to compete with gasoline vehicles. With the Model S, you’re offered two trim levels—standard and performance—and two battery packs: the 60 kWh and the 85 kWh (with option: 85 kWh performance). The standard model has a 302 hp electric motor, and, with the 85 kWh battery pack, it can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 125 mph. The Performance model, on the other hand, using the 85 kWh performance battery pack, boasts an hp of 416, with the ability to hit 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, and a top speed of 130 mph—pretty fast! The Model S also has the lowest drag efficiency of any car on the market, with the exception of certain Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class models that have been released since the Model S’ debut. Since it’s an electric vehicle, the mileage isn’t anything to snooze at either, according to Fueleconomy.gov, the official U.S. source for fuel economy information. The Model S has a combined gas mileage of about 95 mpg. With the Performance model’s range of 300 miles and the car’s propensity toward speed, traction, and awesome design, the new Tesla combines the gritty thrill of a sports vehicle with all the grace and pinnacle of a sedan, bringing the ride-ready gentleman the best of both worlds in high-energy performance and cool luxury. For the high-rolling gentleman, the Model S offers a myriad of fancy built-in features, including a seven speaker stereo system, heated front seats, dual front USB ports, LED daytime running lights, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power tilt and telescopic steering column, and a 17-inch touch screen with Google Maps navigation, an Internet browser, Bluetooth wireless technology, a hi-def backup camera, HD radio, GentlemensGuideLA.com 49

and energy consumption visuals. It’s even got a third row of 60-40 split-folding-rear seats that you can adjust to economize cargo space. The Tesla also comes with a panoramic moon roof that is constructed entirely from lightweight safety glass and opens with a single swipe of the touch screen, blocking out 98% of visible light and 81% of heat. The door handles reduce drag by retracting when not in use in order to streamline airflow; sliding back into place the key is no longer in use. With another touch of the key, the car can turn itself on while you fasten your seatbelt. Press a button on your connector, and the side taillight opens to reveal a hidden charge port. The new software update even includes an energy-saving “sleep” function that allows you to power off the cabin display and electronics whenever they’re not in use. The new Tesla is all heady refinement with sizzling sex appeal. With its hardy, lustrous bodywork (available in red, signature red, blue, gray, white, pearl white, black, silver, brown, and green), seductive leather uphol-

stery (also available in a range of colors), and 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels, the Model S is the perfect vehicle for cruising around town with a lady friend. Offering smooth rides to women everywhere won’t be the only good service you’ll be doing the community—the environment will thank you, too. Instead of burning refined petroleum like gas-powered vehicles and hybrids, the Tesla runs solely on electricity (which can be harnessed from a number of alternative energy sources, including hydro, solar, coal, and wind power), resulting in greater overall energy efficiency for the user. In the end, the new Tesla offers the public diversity. Though it’s certainly carved itself a top spot in the marketplace due to a tantalizing blend of speed, range, design, and gadgetry, the true ingenuity of this vehicle lies in the fact that it will revamp the automobile industry by offering a sporty sedan for consumers who are looking to go green and haven’t yet been sold on lower plug-in electric vehicles like the Volt, the Prius, or the Leaf. n

Get the scoop on hottest Gentlemen Clubs in town. Here’s our list, in every part of town. Gents go visit these and find out for yourself which is your best club.

G 1

Cheetahs

If you fancy yourself a bit of a badass, too edgy to succumb to the wiles of your average bottle-blond stripper but not above ogling pretty girls in general, Cheetahs is probably for you. Thanks to the tattooed, punk rock, Suicide Girl vibe of the place, you can feel like you're the sexual equivalent of eco-conscious by not buying into unrealistic standards of beauty, and since the dancers don't get naked, you can also get drunk enough to justify getting a lap dance. Pat yourself on the back and tip your dancer, my friend. • 4600 Hollywood Boulevard, 323-6606733, cheetahsclubhollywood.com.

2

4Play

This venerable L.A. hotspot has appeared on local and national best-of lists, solidifying its place as a favorite among Angelenos after 15 years in business. 4Play offers VIP bottle service as well as limo service and, on Tuesdays, up-and-coming pole dancers vie for cash prizes at its Amateur Beauty Night competition. The club apparently has drawn celebs, as 4Play features a video on its website of someone they claim to be Spencer Pratt. Hankering for brunch and willing to eat stripclub food? 4Play serves dishes such as steak and eggs, as well as pancakes. • 2238 Cotner Blvd., 310-575-0660, 4playclub.com. 56 GentlemensGuideLA.com

Clubs 3 Seventh Veil

Urban legend holds that the neon sign blinking outside the Seventh Veil on Sunset served as the inspiration for the Mötley Crüe song "Girls, Girls, Girls," and history tells us that parts of the music video were filmed there. But if old-timey hair-metal lore isn't enough to entice you to the club, how about this: Two stages. All nude. Skeezy enough that you feel like your dirty mind will be welcome, not so skeezy that you feel like maybe you should towel off the chairs before sitting down. • 7180 W. Sunset Blvd., 323-876-4761.

4

Dames & Games

Strip club in Downtown Los Angeles is an elegant upscale Club and has beautiful girls. With Dames & Games, Spearmint Rhino is into food having this topless club and sports bar—in Downtown LA. And to celebrate, they're now offering cheap eats along with their cheap tricks. Though the "one of a kind establishment," according to, isn't an actual topless sports bar, it does offer the best of both worlds under one roof. On one side entertain the topless dames, while the sports bar serves up eats and drinks on the other. What more could you possibly ask for? Perhaps a burger with a price tag under $3? •2319 E Washington Blvd., 323-589.2220, damesngames.net.

5 Fantasy Island

Say you were on a road trip, and you were looking for the weirdest, most Raoul Dukeesque titty bar in town. In such a scenario you would find yourself thrilled to stumble upon 4. Fantasy Island in West L.A. The flashing but worn-down exterior looks like a haunted carnival, and the interior keeps up the façade with bright house lights, girls

dressed in neon sporting menacing neck tattoos, and a lap-dance "room," which is really an open area that has all the privacy of a jailhouse. • 11434 W. Pico Blvd., 310-4735678, fantasyislandclub.com.

6 Sam’s Hofbrau

Sam’s Hofbrau is one of the most reliable strip clubs that serves alcohol in Los Angeles. Sam’s has topless strippers and a full bar. Sam’s is inexpensive and in an industrial neighborhood. Cheap beers and no cover charge make it a really low commitment to just stop by and check it out for a drink . The women at Sam’s range a lot. You have nice looking gals but you also have really tight supermodel bodies as well. Stage shows are mild but can be sexy. Lap dances depend on the girl but are $10 and are done in a bikini with no nudity and with no privacy because you are in the same main room as everyone else. • 1751 E. Olympic Blvd., (213) 6233989, samshofbrau.com.

7 Candy Cat Too

The Valley is a veritable goldmine of factorystyle strip clubs like Déjà Vu and Spearmint Rhino, but sometimes a person just wants a beer and some boobs. For that, there's Candy Cat Too. The little topless bar in Canoga Park has stale pretzels resting on the counter and patrons who all seem to know each other, horsing around like a bunch of high school buddies at their 25th reunion. As for the girls, they're good dancers and low-maintenance. Just don't fuck with them. 6816 Winnetka Ave., 818-999-

9 Crazy Girls

The lights and stage here are like something out of a B movie, but don't expect things to get too blue at Crazy Girls. It's been a bikini bar (no nudity) for years, though the get-ups are teeny-eeeny. All the better to show off the ample ink decorating the rock chicks who shake here. Though it's somewhat divey, it's never actually crazy, dodgy or dangerous. Its heart of Hollywood locale (and live rock nights) attract a less aged-perv type and a more bodacious booze- and sex-seeking scenester contingent. • 1433 N. La Brea Ave., 323-969-0055, lacrazygirls.com..

3187, thecandycats.com.

8 Déjà Vu

Complex ranked Noho's Déjà Vu 29th among its list of America's 50 best strip clubs. The club has been around for more than 15 years and offers a bunch of amenities for its customers, including more than 30 dance couches and six VIP booths outfitted for bachelor parties. The warmly lit interior may remind visitors of the '70s, as disco balls hang from the ceiling above plush, red couches on the main floor. • 7350 Coldwater Canyon Ave., 818-982-1199, dejavu.com. GentlemensGuideLA.com 57

10 Rouge

Rouge is the kind of behemoth strip club that makes you lose all sense of time and place, with five private dance areas and enough seating on the main floor for all of the bachelor parties, ever. The plush red velvet furniture in this Van Nuys strip emporium likely will remind you of opulence, which in turn will remind you of how much money you're shelling out to bear witness to these goddesses of night time nudity, which you should try to quickly forget. • 14626 Raymer Street, 818-786-1822, rougegentlemensclub.com.

Spearmint Rhino

The Spearmint Rhino Gentlemen’s Club is in downtown Los Angeles and is one of our top five est strip clubs in Los Angeles. If it’s not to busy, the place is great! it is newer and is better than most of the clubs on the Westside or the South Bay. Spearmint rhino has several other locations abs sister clubs through out. The best time to go is during the week. This club is highly visible from the freeway, is a widely recognized brand, and has been around longer than many of the other clubs you can get excellent treatment here if you want lap dances and if the place is not to busy $10-20 admission sometimes a drink for $5-6 is required and parking after 6pm is $5 and if you don’t user their lot you will probably lose your car to a chop shop. $20 topless $40 nude and something like $300 VIP. • 2020 E. bikini lap dances, topless lap dances, nude lap dances, private lap dance rooms, and a VIP room. • 1109 S Santa Fe Ave., 213-489-2000, playclubs.net. n

Hangouts

Free Things to do in LA this Fall What to do around the city. By Jenny Lu

So many great and fun things to do in Los Angeles Here are some fabulous hangouts that you should considered. 1. Explore Sunken City

This under-the-radar stretch of terrain is located in San Pedro. Decades before, cliffside homes suffered a devastating landslide, leaving behind chunks of concrete serving as the perfect blank canvases for graffiti. Nowadays the Sunken City area is gated and sneaking in is technically trespassing, but the gate is easy to surpass and the juxtaposition of summer skies, ocean and [sub]urban art is especially worth it.

2. Disneyland

Head to the 'Happiest Place on Earth' for fantasy encounters with

Disney princesses and Peter Pan, while you dine on the Bayou or shop on Main Street. Create joyful memories with your special friend while you walk through the past and venture towards the future in Tomorrowland and Fantasyland. Or walk across the road to California Adventure and experience the thrills of Toy Story Mania, California Screamin' or the terrifying Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

3. See the Venice Canals

Too broke for Venice, Italy but don’t want to deal with the hustle-n-bustle and blazing heat of Vegas? Away from the gawkfest of the Venice Boardwalk lies a little a network of our very own canals, set against a backdrop of gorgeous homes. It’s the perfect setting for a quiet or romantic evening stroll.

4. Runyon Canyon Park

Pack up your running shoes and hit the trails of Runyon Canyon The 160 acres features trails that wind around the canyon hills. Yoga classes are also offered daily - for free! It also is the most popular dog park in Los Angeles. 62 GentlemensGuideLA.com

5. Wander through Exxoplis

Downtown’s Grand Park hosts this interactive walk-in sculpture filled with dazzling displays of luminous light and color. Inside you’ll find a maze-like environment with “winding paths and soaring domes,” where you’ll encounter performances such as Brazilian berimbau or Japanese shakuhachi. Yup… we don’t know what those are either, but now is a better time than ever to get schooled on world culture. Tickets are free and can be reserved at www.musiccenter.org/events/worldcity/1314-Season/Exxopolis/.

6. The Huntington Library

Learn about the history of California's natural scenery at this botanical garden. There are also different exhibits that are presented throughout the year. You can enjoy tea at the Rose Garden, where sandwiches, pastries, and tea are served. Located in San Marino, the Huntington

7. Enjoy a Picnic and Sip Wine at Barnsdall Art Park

Pack a picnic and join Barnsdall Art Park for one of their summer wine tastings. Atop the grassy hill you’ll find picturesque trees, a marvelous vista of the city, and even views of the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Obervatory. Wine tastings cost $25, include a limited edition wine glass, and are every Friday, with the last one falling on September 20.

8. Enjoy a Food Tour

If you want to expand your epicurean knowledge of the city but can’t stand to wade through the mess of snooty or non-useful reviews on

Library also has an art collection that is home to Gainsborough’s "Blue Boy." You can easily spend a day here and still not see everything, so get an early start! GentlemensGuideLA.com 63

Yelp, take a guided food tour from companies like SixTaste. Expert guides will help you explore places like Downtown, Chinatown, Santa Monica, and Thai Town, and discover the the hidden gems of each. Ticket prices include the cost of the tour, food and gratuity.

10. El Capitan Theatre

This historic Hollywood Boulevard movie palace was built in the 1920s and is famous for premiering Citizen Kane in 1941. Disney bought the building in 1991 and restored the theatre to its prior glory. It features a giant Wurlitzer Theatre Organ.

9. Attend an outdoor movie

This one’s a no-brainer. With Southern California weather’s famously sunny disposition, it’s no wonder that the city’s residents take to the outdoors for communal movie showings and free concerts. See our round-ups of movies and concerts here for a convenient list of happenings.

11. View an Art Exhibit

Our city is bursting with art galleries and museums with countless exhibits. After all, Los Angeles is a hub for the arts and you never know when you’ll discover your new favorite artist. And what better way to enjoy art than with free admission? Visit the Hammer on Thursdays for free entry, and view our pick, the Maya Hayuk exhibit, for a dose of psychedelia and bright flourishes of color. 64 GentlemensGuideLA.com

12. Go on an Art Deco Tour

Jostling against our city’s jumbled landscape of concrete and dinky discount stores lies many art deco treasures. The LA Conservancy offers walking tours which allow you to discover the hidden and not-so-hidden architectural gems of downtown, including the Eastern Columbia Building (shown above), the Ray Bradbury Building (of 500 days of Summer fame), and more.

13. Shop the Downtown Flea

Replace that embarrassingly generic IKEA ensemble of furniture with an ironically ugly set of furniture from Downtown Flea! Just kidding. But really, it’s probably time to add some character to your furnishings and Downtown Flea is the perfect opportunity. Spanning four parking lots of DTLA, this new flea market is sure to carry some hidden treasures.

15. Go to the beach

Okay, this one seems like an obvious one, but a quick survey of our office reveals that nobody has gone to the beach this summer except for when we haphazardly attempted a drunken game of volleyball as an office team-building activity. Yikes! Fear of extreme heat and parking terrors have kept many a jaded Angeleno from the beach, but remember that seaside breezes help to cool you down, and the Pacific Ocean is actually quite cold. Head to Manhattan or Hermosa Beach, for example, and take advantage of the volleyball courts offered. Try dippping your feet into the ocean water. Lay out on a beach towel and catch a tan. After all, what’s the use in living in SoCal if you don’t take advantage of the region’s most envied geographical feature?. n

14. The Queen Mary

Jump on board this legendary ship and enjoy the stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and Long Beach skyline. Or dine with the spirits at Sir Winston’s Restaurant. After dinner, go on a guided paranormal investigation and explore the haunted areas of the ship! GentlemensGuideLA.com 65

Fitness

Stay Fit Using These Steps Follow These simple eating rules for a fit and lean look. By Michael Ferrar

G

uys we've all been there: despite exercising and watching what you eat, the elastic in your workout shorts seems to be as tight as your hamstrings. Luckily, it's easier than it sounds, below Gentlemen’s Guide has come up with a list of 10 eating habits that'll help you.

1

Don’t Drink Sugar

A study out of Tufts University looked at the association between sugar-sweetened drinks and the nutritional habits of 947 adults. Unsurprisingly, those who drank the most sugary beverages, like soda, had a higher risk of obesity and a lower intake of fiber. When you celebrate, opt for wine, beer, or a drink mixed with club soda.

2

Go Off The Sauce

Beware of the hidden calories in sauces. Use tomato sauce instead of alfredo on pasta; substitute hummus or mustard for mayo on a sandwich; and make your own salad dressing: Add a little ranch seasoning to plain Greek yogurt, or a dash of olive oil and balsamic vinegar

3

Make Fiber Your Friend

“Multiple studies have shown that fiber is correlated to weight loss as well as weight maintenance”, says Jennifer Vimbor, M.S., R.D. Fiber passes through your system undigested, so your body has to work harder and longer to move it out. Aim to eat at least 25 grams of fiber a day: beans, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. 72 GentlemensGuideLA.com

4

Go All “DIY”

For nights you're too rushed to cook, stock your pantry and freezer ahead of time with these staples: vegetable and bean soups, a frozen vegetable pizza, brown rice you can microwave, a can of black beans and salsa. In order to make a brown-bag lunch as easy as possible, double dinner recipes so that you'll have leftovers.

5

Avoid These 3 Roadblocks

Roadblock: Eat something with protein, carbs, and fiber like plain, fat-free Greek yogurt with a cup of berries. Roadblock: Celebrate. Moderately. Have a (small) piece of cake. No good comes of trying to "save up" calories. Eat your normal meals and snacks so you're not starving. Roadblock: Trying to stay at your lowest weight is like trying to stay at your peak fitness year round," Fitzgerald says. "When you dial back your training, expect to put on a few pounds."

6

Keep It Away

Don't bring decadent foods into your home; it's easier to win the battle at the grocery store than at the dinner table.

7

Rules For Daily Eats

Breakfast: Rotate three meals, says Pamela Nisevich Bede, M.S., R.D., sports nutrition expert for the Runner's World Challenge. Ideas: "adult" cereal (high on fiber, grains; low on sugar), oatmeal, Greek yogurt, or eggs. Always include fruit. Lunch: Rotate three to five meals. Ideas: salads (go easy on high-calorie toppings), sandwiches on whole grain (hold the mayo), eggs (if you didn't have them at breakfast), and broth-based soups. Always include fruit or a side of vegetables. Dinner: Rotate five healthy meals like chicken, fish, and whole grains. Always include vegetables. "Keep your meals interesting by changing the vegetable and fruit sides and mixing up the preparation of the entree," Nisevich Bede says.

8

Repeat Yourself

The National Weight Control Registry is a compendium of more than 10,000 people who have maintained a weight loss of at least 30 pounds for at least one year. These successful losers learned to "limit their exposure to temptations," says J. Graham Thomas, Ph.D., a co-investigator on the study, "and have a repertoire of healthy foods they pull from regularly."

9

Pay Attention

"Before you reach for a snack, make sure you're really hungry," says Eberle, who explains we often eat when we really need sleep, play, or downtime. 'You may just need to step away from your desk for 15 minutes and chill out."

10 Practice Long, Slow Eating For each step up in speed (on a five-step scale from very slow to very fast), BMI increased by 2.8%. By slowing down, you give your mind a chance to process that your body is full.n GentlemensGuideLA.com 73

How to make Love to a Women By Reva Jones, Sex Therapist New York University

Learn How to Make Love to your girlfriend or wife

N

othing boosts a man's ego more than hearing the woman he's seeing rave about his skills in bed. But what if the opposite happens? What if you feel that the sex wasn't as good for her as it was for you?

Whether you're married or single, it is an absolute must for you to learn how to make love with your wife or how to make love with your girlfriend. Refining your skills in bed is one of the best ways to show how much you love your girlfriend or your significant other - even if it means taking an unusual route with your love play. 82 GentlemensGuideLA.com

What’s the Best Way to make Love with Your Wife or Girlfriend? During your teenage years, you might have had not-so-pleasant experiences while learning on love making. Meanwhile, men who are married would have an edge because they surely would have played around a bit prior to sticking to their ways of how to love the wife - but there's definitely no harm in brushing up on your basic skills. So what's the best ways for you to make love with your wife or girlfriend? At the end of the day, it's all about being extra attuned to her needs as a woman. Showing your care and learning new tips and tricks, for example, requires being extra sensitive to what she wants. But when it comes to refining your skills in bed, there are plenty of tips that you can follow. For example, the one mistake that most teenagers and young adult males make while loving with their girlfriends is skipping or scrimping on the foreplay. Did you know that for them, this is actually one of the best parts? Remember that the brain is one of the most erogenous zones for women which is why you should exert the extra effort into making sure that you are seducing her mind first. After that, refining your skills when it comes developing your techniques on how to make

love with your wife is all a matter of starting slow and building up to the main event. Start by setting the mood, kissing her passionately, paying close attention to her most erogenous parts, being extra attentive to her sexual needs - all without waiting for her to return the favor. By giving her utmost pleasure in bed, you are bound to get your turn and have her return the favor. If you're a couple who has been together for a long time, try to spice

things up by indulging in some dirty talk, wearing sexy costumes, role playing or even using sex toys if you need to. At the end of the day, It is all about developing that intimacy that you have as a couple. It doesn't matter If you are making love for the first time ever or not, you really need to know about the most sensitive things which girls love and become a true lover in bed! n GentlemensGuideLA.com 83
