Men’s fashion, according to Valentino isn’t complicated. But when it comes to pulling off a suit and making it look hot, it’s all about the details, the 70’s are back. Think two-piece suits with thinner ties that are fitted and tapered to the body. The trend now is for suits that have less fabric and fewer buttons. The idea here is that less is more. It’s more of a European look men are going for. “There’s a big movement toward healthy living now, and guys want to show that they look healthy,” Valentino said. “For that, the fitted, proportional suit is what they’re going for. It’s not about the loose, baggy clothing anymore.”If you’re looking for inspiration, the Al Capone look is hot this year, as men are dressing in suits reminiscent of mobsters, with polka-dot ties and sleek, slender looks. When pairing ties with a suit, Eloundou said thinking outside the box is definitely the way to go. It’s OK to mix paisley with polka dots, or wear a different colored jacket that contrasts with the pants, whether they’re solid or patterned. Accessories are a musthave, as they are used to bring out individual style, whether it’s the tie, shirt selection or pocket square. Eloundou’s tip: Be bold. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns. A pocket square doesn’t necessarily have to match the shirt. The contrast shows off your colorful style and individuality.
Sex& Relationships
Oh, the joys of sex and relationships. Some men know what they want from awoman, while others are still trying to discover their boundaries. After surveying agroup of young men, we found out that men like their lady to be a lady on thestreet as well as in the bedroom, while some men prefer a lady in the streets and an uninhibited sex vixen behind closed doors. Physical Attraction The face is always a given when you meet someone, but this year it’s all about a woman’s height and the “ass.” Of course, attraction varies from person to person, but tall women with perfectly shaped derrières out numbered the face and boobs when it comes to physical attraction. Who knew? Relationship Needs Men want self-sufficient, secure and confident women. But just because you’reconfident doesn’t mean you need to be conservative. Men want a woman who knows what she wants and knows how to have a good time. If a guy is givingyou all of his time and attention, then there’s no need for jealousy. Yep, most men vow to cut the cord when a woman is considered to be the “jealous type.” Sexual Wants Nipples, nipples, nipples. Not yours, ladies, the men are all about foreplay, and it’s all about taking care of his nipples. Sucking, licking and even biting on a man’s nipples is a sure-fire way to relax and arouse him. But you don’t have to wait until you’re having sex to play with his nipples. Give his nipples a quick tug after he’s been working out, in the shower or first thing in the morning, and watch his facelight up as if his favorite sports team has just won a game.
A MAN’S DRINK
The Manhattan. Men have been opting for the Manhattan since 1870. History suggests that t drink originated at the Manhattan Club in New York City in the early 1870s. It was invented b Dr. Iain Marshall for a banquet hosted by Jenn Jerome (also known as Lady Randolph Churc Winston Churchill's mother) in honor of the pr dential candidate Samuel J. Tilden. The Manhattan is a popular and classic whiskey a sweet vermouth cocktail. When properly built, Manhattan is the only cocktail that can slug it toe-to-toe with the martini. It's bold and fortifyi yet as relaxing as a deep massage, and gents can’t seem to get enough of them.
Combine the vermouth, bourbon whiskey, and ters with 2 - 3 ice cubes in a mixing glass. Sti gently, don't bruise the spirits and cloud the d Place the cherry in a chilled cocktail glass and strain the whiskey mixture over the cherry. Ru the cut edge of the orange peel over the rim o the glass and twist it over the drink to release oils but don't drop it in. 3/4 oz sweet vermouth 2 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey 1 dash Angostura® bitters 1 maraschino cherry 1 twist orange peel GentlemensGuideLA.com

Gents, What Suits Should You Consider this Fall Season? By Andrea Montoya
t’s that time of year again. Fall matters, as it should be between a Fashion is here! Are your suits light and summery gray and a somber ready for this upcoming season? charcoal, but not those shades entirely. The most important aspect is the fit The trend forecasting states that of the suit. Each suit should not just there are no plaids, no stripes, and hang off the shoulders, but should be definitely no over-doing vests. Simple fitted perfectly. It should have a and elegance go a long way this Fall slightly loose fit, but should also porseason. Think Sean Connery as tray firmness at the same length. James Bond in his smart and confident lightened gray suit with a two- Details to Make Your Suit Sharp button jacket. The right gray color Details that define a suit ought to be considered as well. The lapel, for example, should be at least two inches apart. The jacket should stick with a two-button clasp, as a three-button is admirable, the two-button is just more reliable in the long run. As for the ticket pocket, just leave that aside. The back of the jacket is alright to let vent and flow, but keep caution with the amount of side vents. Cuffs on the pants are acceptable, as long as they are at least an inch and a quarter deep.

Style and Shape Matter
The style of the man also represents the style of the suit to choose. Shape increasingly matters as whether skinny or a few pounds over, the right suit will do the trick. Never go with an overly baggy suit, avoid long style jackets, and any excess fabric will 12 GentlemensGuideLA.com

Adventurous Suit Patterns
Some heavier and warmer suit patterns to go with during the temperature drops are flannel, corduroy, and tweed styles. For the warmer days, stick with a cool navy, black, or even plaid cotton suit. More adventurous styles are to go with a seersucker (gray or pale blue stripes), or a whipcord (which has corduroy-style ridges). Linen is the lightest material out of all of them, and should be cut sharp and kept at a slim length. For the best options of suits for all the ranges mentioned, head over to 3 Men Suits (see page 16) for the best suit styles available at reasonable prices. n
highlight not so appealing body types. If you’re on the shorter side, look into buying short-length suits. To accentuate your body even more, wear a pocket square to draw attention to your chest, invest in a lower button to stretch you out, and show some cuff to elongate your arms.
The Tailor is Your New best Friend
Slimmer style suits are in, and keep the jacket button clasped as to not come off as a mafia gangster. Remember to keep it short and trim for a clean, cut look. Bringing suits to a tailor is the best investment you can make. Prices vary, but generally tailored sleeves can cost around $40, cuffs go for $30, and the jacket body can range from $35 to create that V effect. 14 GentlemensGuideLA.com

The Best Tequilas of 2014: Official Taste Test Results By Gabriella Vigoreaux
rguably one of the greatest holidays of the year is National Tequila Day, and we at Gentlemen’s Guide (GG) saw an opportunity to hold a taste test (for research, of course), to find some of the best tequilas out there. With so much tequila out on the market today what the hell is a gentlemen to do to find the best tequila?
A
f there is one thing we like here at the Gentlemen’s Guide office, it's great tequila. In fact, our Editor-in-Chief, Jose Huerta keeps a rather expansive selection of artisanal bottles in his office bar at all times. Needless to say, no arms were twisted in conducting this taste test. Under the watchful eye of L.A.’s tequila guru, Miguel de los Rios, we sipped our way through 21 blanco and reposado tequilas, and we did it all for you.
I
Ever wondered which tequilas are best for making margaritas and which are smooth enough for sipping? Want to know which tequilas taste amazing and cost less than $30? Whether you fancy yourself a tequila snob, are looking for a killer mixer, or just want to get the best bang for your buck, we've got you covered. Read on to see which tequilas reigned supreme.
18 GentlemensGuideLA.com
Method to Our Madness: Our tasters ranked the tequilas on a scale from ‘1 to 5’ in three different categories: aroma, taste, and finish. In addition, the tequilas were also judged according to set criteria such as "Best for the tequila newbie" or "Best for mixology."
Best Sipping Blanco Tequila
Casa Dragones Blanco $75.00 Casa Dragones first came on the market with their premium sipping tequila, Joven, back in 2009. The brand has recently released a second premium spirit, the blanco, made up of 100% pure blue-agave specifically used for mixing. The agave plants are harvested in the Trans-Mexican volcanic belt and distilled with pure spring water resulting in crystal clear tequila with subtle flavors of tropical fruits, cucumber, and mint. This blanco tequila was an all around favorite, consistently rating 4 or 5 in aroma, taste, and finish. One taster thought it had a "fruity wine taste" and another said that it was "muy bien and super sippable!"
Best Blanco Tequila Value
Calle Noble Reposado $21.99 Calle 23 was founded none other by Sophie Decobecq; a French woman with roots in the cognac industry. She fell in love with tequila and moved to Mexico with the determination to start her own brand. Thus, Calle 23 was born. While it may not be a heritage brand like others that we tried, our tasters deemed this blanco tequila as the best bang for your buck, at just shy of $22 a bottle. It was also a favorite in the flavor department, with hints of citrus on the nose and a lingering taste of apples and pears.
GentlemensGuideLA.com 19
Best Reposado Tequila
Casa Noble Reposado $42.99 Casa Noble is both a distillery and an agave grower, so the plants that go into their tequilas are grown on their very own soil; 3,000 acres of plants to be exact. Consider this the farmto-table version of tequila. Oh, and Carlos Santana is one of the owners, so there's that. Casa Noble's reposado is aged for 364 days in French white Oak barrels. Several testers ranked this reposado in the excellent category for it's complex taste and finish. It was lighter and easier to sip than others, but one taster said, "The vanilla flavor was too overwhelming.
Best Reposado Tequila Value
Tres Agaves Reposado $29.99 Tres Agaves hails from a family-owned boutique distillery in the town of Tequila (yes, that's actually the name of a real town). For over a century, the brand has been preparing tequila the traditional way. The agave is matured for 9 years and the tequila rests in ex-Bourbon barrels for 6 to 9 months where it develops its signature oak and agave flavor. It doesn't get more legit than that, and the low price tag makes it perfect for your next margarita fiesta. This reposado was sweet, smooth, and some even said contained a nutty flavor. Its traditional tequila taste profile would play well in margaritas, with orange liqueurs (we like a Mandarine Napoleon or Combier), or even in a tequila negroni.
Best with Guacamole
ArteNOM Blanco $41.99 Taking the idea of terroir to the next level, ArteNOM is the first tequila company to highlight the individual distilleries themselves where their blancos, reposados, and a単ejos are produced. The NOM is the 4-digit number that the Mexican government gives to each distillery, and you can see the number on the bottles. Tasters liked the ArteNOM reposado for it's lime scent and described it as "sweet and smooth" and "good for sipping." The hint of caramelized flavor makes it a perfect match for food, especially salty chips with a side of creamy guacamole. 20 GentlemensGuideLA.com
Best For Sophisticated Cocktails
Fortaleza Reposado $53.99 Fortaleza Tequila is made using the 500-year-old Tahona process. First, the agave plants grow for 7 to 8 years before they are cooked in a brick oven. The cores of the plants, called the pi単as, are then crushed with a 2-ton piece of volcanic rock. The resulting juice, called mosto, is fermented for 5 days before being double distilled. What you get is clean, sleek tequila that was a huge hit with our staff. Tasters liked this reposado for its fruity taste and smooth finish. It ranked a perfect 5 in all three categories for several tasters. Vermouth, bitters, and fresh citrus would best accent the flavors of this reposado.
For The Tequila Sipping Newbie
Calle Noble Reposado $39.99 Calle 23 was founded none other by Sophie Decobecq; a French woman with roots in the cognac industry.
For the Tequila Snob
Tequila Ocho Reposado $42.99 Tequila Ocho is the only single-estate vintage tequila on the market. What does that mean? Basically each vintage they produce is different than the one that came before. The reposados get a new vintage every couple of years as the blancos get one every year. Tequila Ocho's reposado was an overall favorite, with many 5's in the taste category. One tester described it as "smooth and light, almost like a wine." This makes sense since the brand's process was actually inspired by wine making. GentlemensGuideLA.com 21

A One-on-One With
Leo “Terremoto” Santa CRUZ By Andrea Montoya
40 GentlemensGuideLA.com
eodegario Santa Cruz, nicknamed “Terremoto,” is an up and coming Mexican professional boxer that has proven himself as an undefeated champion. He claims the titles of the former IBF World Bantamweight, and the current WBC World Super Bantamweight Champion. At just 15 years old, he had an amateur record of 148-7, and won a gold medal at the World Amateur Championships. To add to his outstanding record, on October 21, 2010, Santa Cruz beat veteran James Owens at the Martin’s Valley Mansion in Cockeysville, Maryland. One year later, in March 2011, he continued his stride by knocking out veteran Stephane Jamoye, and won the vacant WBC Youth World Bantamweight Championship.
L
On June 2, 2012, Santa Cruz would beat Africa’s Vusi Malinga to win the IBF World Bantamweight Championship. Defending his streak, he would beat Morel, Zaleta, and Guevara to finish his 2012-year with 5 total wins including 3 title defenses. This past year, on February 12, 2013, Santa Cruz put aside his IBF bantamweight belt to move up to the title of junior featherweight. Through a third round technical knockout, on August 24, 2013, he beat continuous titleholder
Victor Terrazas to win the WBC World Super Bantamweight Championship. “I wanted to be different. Growing up I struggled. I wanted to change my life to ensure a better future and not suffer. I wanted a better life,” he commented to Uppercut’s Publisher, Jesus Jimenez. Leo Santa Cruz is originally from Michoacán, Mexico, but grew up in La Puente, CA. Celebrating his 26th birthday recently on Sunday, August 10th, 2014, Leo Santa Cruz has become a beacon of hope in the boxing arena. We at GG were fortunate enough to sit and talk with Leo, asking him more about his style of boxing, who he looks up to most, and just find out more about the man himself. GG: Which lightweight fighters greats do you compare yourself to? LS: I believe and so does my dad that watches me say that my style and body shots best represents Julio Cesar Chavez. I can also compare myself to both Alexis Arquello and Salvador Sanchez. GentlemensGuideLA.com 41
GG: As a lightweight fighter, what makes you great? Why is Leo on top of world? LS: Thanks to the fans, and thanks to the teachings of my dad to work hard. I give many thanks to my fans and followers. GG: After you clean up your division/weight class, what would you like to do? LS: Currently I am at 126 lbs. I would like to try move up in weight class, 130, then 135, and then 140. I think I would fit comfortably in the 135-weight class. I can easily go up and down in weight class. Even down to 123, is fine. As a fighter- I am humble. I try to be the same guy all the time and not let fame get the best of me. I also enjoy helping out the lest fortunate and try to be the best I can be.
42 GentlemensGuideLA.com
GG: Whom do you want to fight next? LS: It depends on whom the fans want. They want me to fight against Scott Quigg, Kiko Martinez, and even Guillermo Rigodeux. GG: I know it was just your Birthday, Happy Birthday. Tell me something your fans don’t know about you as the boxer and as a person. LS: As a fighter- I am humble. I try to be the same guy all the time and not let fame get the best of me. I also enjoy helping out the lest fortunate and try to be the best I can be. GG: Looking back 20 years from now, how would you want to be remembered? LS: Like the legends Oscar De la Hoya and Julio Cesar Chavez, I want to be remembered as a ‘True Mexican Warrior” and be part of the Boxing Hall of Fame.
A few words from his Father and Trainer Jose Santa Cruz: GG: Whose style best represents Leo? JS: I would have to say that Leo has a bit of Julio Cesar Chavez, Oscar De la Hoya and even Danny “Little Red” Lopez’ style. GG: As his trainer and father, how have you prepared Leo for his boxing career that has turned out to be successful? JS: I always knew Leo was a good boxer since he was a child. I also think that my upbringing has helped him, I taught him to humble and to always be himself, a person with a good heart and full of pride. As a trainer, I look at different fighting styles from Mayweather to Pacquiao and get the best techniques for Leo. GG: How do you see Leo’s upcoming fight against Manuel Roman on September 13th match turn out?
JS: It will probably be a challenge for the first 3 Rounds, but as the fight continues, Leo will withstand and end up winning. With his father, Jose Santa Cruz, training him, you know Leo Santa Cruz will be ready for just about anything and anyone who comes along to try to take his championship title away. You can catch the intense action at the upcoming fight for Leo Santa Cruz vs. Manuel Roman in the Mayweather-Maidana undercard match broadcasted from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on September 13, 2014. n I believe and so does my dad that watches me say that my style and body shots best represents Julio Cesar Chavez. I can also compare myself to both Alexis Arquello and Salvador Sanchez.

Jay-Z: The Man, The Mogul and His Life By Andrea Montoya
apper and hip-hop entrepreneur Jay-Z is mostly known for leading Def Jam Records, creating a clothing line, and marrying singer Beyoncé Knowles in 2008. Jay-Z, age 44, originally named Shawn Corey Carter, was born in New York City on December 4, 1969. He grew up in Brooklyn’s drug-infested Marcy Projects. To escape the pain of his broken childhood, he would rap and even appeared on Yo! MTV Raps in 1989. His mother, Gloria Carter, commented that “he was the last of my four children and the only one who didn’t give me any pain when I gave birth to him, and that’s how I knew he was a special child.” Jay-Z’s father left him and his family at the young age of 11 years old.
R
Moving on from a Rough Childhood
As a child of a tough upbringing, dealing drugs and gun violence was the only way to survive. He attended Eli Whitney High School in Brooklyn where he attended with a rather soon-to-be famous rap legend Notorious B.I.G. In one of his songs entitled, “December 4th” his lyrics say it all: “I went to school, got good grades, could behave when I wanted/ But I had demons deep inside that would raise when confronted.” Jay-Z’s name means more than meets the eye. During his appearance on the television show Yo! MTV Raps in 1989, Jay-Z was accompanied by Jaz-O, an older rap performer who became Jay-Z’s mentor and performed their hit, “The Originators.” JayZ’s childhood nickname was “Jazzy” and even the subway station near his Brooklyn home was named the J/Z subway station.
The Start of It All
Founding their own record label company, Jay-Z along with his two friends, Damon Dash and Kareem Burke, created Roc-AFella Records in 1996. In June of that year, Jay-Z released his debut album titled Reasonable Doubt. At the time it reached No. 23 on the Billboard charts, but now, it is considered one of the classic hip-hop albums. This album features songs such as “Can’t Knock the Hustle,” featuring Mary J. Blige, along with “Brooklyn’s Finest,” which is a collaboration with Notorious B.I.G. The album really was a foot in the door for JayZ’s rapping career.
46 GentlemensGuideLA.com
GentlemensGuideLA.com 47
In 1998, Jay-Z would continue his success with his second album Vol. 2 … Hard Knock Life. This titled track, which sampled sounds from the hit Broadway musical Annie, became Jay-Z’s most popular single to date and won him his very first Grammy nomination. During the next couple of years, Jay-Z would release an array of No. 1 albums and hit singles. His most popular singles considered are: “Can I Get A …”, “Big Pimpin”, “I Just Wanna Love U”, “Izzo (H. O. V. A.)”, and “03 Bonnie & Clyde” which was actually a duet with his bride-tobe Beyoncé Knowles. His most acclaimed album was none other than The Blueprint, released in 2001, which would be considered one of the best albums of the decade according to many music critics.
The Making of a Music Mogul
Two years later, Jay-Z released his last solo album before retiring entitled The Black Album. When asked about his sudden decision to retire, he simply stated that he was bored with the lack of competition circulating the rap industry. Instead of continuing with his rap career, he turned to the business side, by ultimately becoming president of Def Jam Recordings. Because of this
switch in presidency, artists such as Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Young Jeezy, Kayne West were signed on to join the label. In 2007, he decided to give up his presidency, and instead he released two new albums entitled American Gangster in 2007, and Blueprint 3 in 2010. The lyrics to his songs project mature topics such as the events of Hurricane Katrina, Barack Obama's election, along with the problems with fame and fortune. He states that he tries to keep his topics familiar with his audience's age range. “There's not a lot of people who have come of age in rap because it's only 30 years old. As more people come of age, hopefully the topics get broader and then the audience will stay around longer.”
What’s so meaningful about Jay-Z is Founding their own record label company, Jay-Z along with his two friends, Damon Dash and Kareem Burke, created Roc-A-Fella Records in 1996. Jay-Z’s name means more than meets the eye.
48 GentlemensGuideLA.com
In 2008, the company Live Nation signed a contract for over $150 million with Jay-Z, which led to creating Roc Nation. A joint collaboration between Roc-A-Fella Records and Live Nation was formed. Roc Nation manages artists such as Willow Smith and J. Cole along with other popular artists. In 2011, Jay-Z teamed up with none other than Kayne West to create the famous album Watch the Throne. This album alone topped the rap, R&B and pop charts that year. The song entitled “Otis, which was influenced by Otis Redding, grasped a few Grammy Award nominations, and was even nominated for Best Rap Album.
Shortly after, both West and Jay-Z released solo albums within weeks of each other. Sadly, Jay-Z's album was praised less than expected and his 12th studio album released in 2013: Magna Carta Holy Grail, was also seen as decent work, but was still short in supply for consumers and critics. Still, even as time goes on, Jay-Z will continue to surprise and be proud of his journey to where his rap career has landed him today. n GentlemensGuideLA.com 49

Tesla Model 3: will take you more than 200 miles further on a charge.
The New Tesla Model 3 By Andrea Montoya
s Tesla’s Model S is retailed at about $70,000 is the United States, the Model 3 is significantly cheaper in comparison. More than half the price, the Model 3 will be starting at a mere $35,000. Just the pricing alone will be in the ranks of competition with the BMW 3-series.
A
The Tesla Model S became available to the public in 2012, and was known for being a sleek modernized style for a luxurious electric sedan. On July 15th 2014, Tesla announced through Twitter that they have brought in a new family member and it is called the Model 3. It is 20% smaller in comparison to the Model S, but still has the swift and engaging components as the former. This Tesla will take you more than 200 miles further on a charge.
What’s the Deal with the Name? When asked about the naming of this model, CEO Elon Musk had this to say, “We had the model S for sedan and X for crossover SUV, then a friend asked what we were going to call the third car, so I said we had the model S and X, we might as well have the E.” The Model 3 is set to be the company’s fourth car set out for release. According to Tesla, it is a “crossover that falls somewhere between a sedan and a sport utility vehicle and fits up to seven passengers.” The release date for this car was actually pushed back as a legal matter with Ford had arisen for the original name of “Model E” had to be changed to “Model 3.” Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk stated, “We were going to call it model E for a while and then Ford sued us saying it wanted to use the Model E – I thought this was crazy, Ford’s trying to kill sex! So we’ll have to think of another name. The new model is going to be called Model III, we’ll have three bars to represent it and it’ll be S III X!”
50 GentlemensGuideLA.com
Model 3 is Cost-Friendly The driving range for the Model 3 is rated to be 306 miles and is equipped with an 85-kWh battery. To compare to Tesla’s first car, the Roadster, it was rated at 245 miles per charge, but also weighed close to 2,000 pounds less. Chris Porritt, Tesla’s vice president of engineering, added that the new model would not be based on the aluminum platform that is in the Model S, and that Tesla wanted to reduce overall costs of the car by
using more cost-effective battery technologies with their Gigafactory. The Model 3 even comes with the free use of Tesla’s Supercharger network.
Commitment is Key As Tesla’s Model S is retailed at about $70,000 is the United States, the Model 3 is significantly cheaper in comparison. More than half the price, the Model 3 will be starting at a mere $35,000. Just the pricing alone will be in the ranks of competition with the BMW 3-series. The commitment to innovation is shown through Tesla’s release of this new Model 3; however, in Texas it can prove to be a problem as the sales of Teslas are near impossible. Protectionist laws halt their chance to buy this new Model 3, unless they order it online, register it in California, ship it to Texas, and then continue to register it within 90 days of deliver.

Compared with the Competition In comparison to the Tesla Model 3, the BMW 3-series are a range of cars that start at a price of $32,750. The MPG extends from 32 in the city, and 45 on the highway. They have a horsepower between 180 HP all the way to 335 HP. The 3-series come with either a 2.0L or a 3.0L engine size. Body styles differ as well as the sedan starts at $32,750, the wagon starting at $41,750, and finally the hatchback starting at $41,750. The previous Tesla Model S, released this year in 2014, however has a sedan style body. It’s cost started at $69,900. The MPG was up to 94 in the city, and 97 on the highway. The horsepower was set between 302 HP and went up to 416 HP. As the Base configurations were at $69,900, the Performance was tallied at $93,400. Consumers are already on the edge of their seats wanting to see photos of this hot new Model 3. As there are no official pictures of the car, there have been prototype photos circulating the web. The reveal of this exciting new development in Tesla cars will occur in late 2016, with the sale of this Model 3 starting in early 2017. n

G
1 Cheetahs
If you fancy yourself a bit of a badass, too edgy to succumb to the wiles of your average bottle-blond stripper but not above ogling pretty girls in general, Cheetahs is probably for you. Thanks to the tattooed, punk rock, Suicide Girl vibe of the place, you can feel like you're the sexual equivalent of ecoconscious by not buying into unrealistic standards of beauty, and since the dancers don't get naked, you can also get drunk enough to justify getting a lap dance. Pat yourself on the back and tip your dancer, my friend. • 4600 Hollywood Boulevard, 323-6606733, cheetahsclubhollywood.com.
2 4Play
This venerable L.A. hotspot has appeared on local and national best-of lists, solidifying its place as a favorite among Angelenos after 15 years in business. 4Play offers VIP bottle service as well as limo service and, on Tuesdays, up-and-coming pole dancers vie for cash prizes at its Amateur Beauty Night competition. The club apparently has drawn celebs, as 4Play features a video on its website of someone they claim to be Spencer Pratt. Hankering for brunch and willing to eat strip-club food? 4Play serves dishes such as steak and eggs, as well as pancakes. • 2238 Cotner Blvd., 310-575-0660, 4playclub.com. 58 GentlemensGuideLA.com
Clubs 3
Seventh Veil
Urban legend holds that the neon sign blinking outside the Seventh Veil on Sunset served as the inspiration for the Mötley Crüe song "Girls, Girls, Girls," and history tells us that parts of the music video were filmed there. But if old-timey hair-metal lore isn't enough to entice you to the club, how about this: Two stages. All nude. Skeezy enough that you feel like your dirty mind will be welcome, not so skeezy that you feel like maybe you should towel off the chairs before sitting down. • 7180 W. Sunset Blvd., 323876-4761.
4
Dames & Games
Strip club in Downtown Los Angeles is an elegant upscale Club and has beautiful girls. With Dames & Games, Spearmint Rhino is into food having this topless club and sports bar—in Downtown LA. And to celebrate, they're now offering cheap eats along with their cheap tricks. Though the "one of a kind establishment," according to, isn't an actual topless sports bar, it does offer the best of both worlds under one roof. On one side entertain the topless dames, while the sports bar serves up eats and drinks on the other. What more could you possibly ask for? Perhaps a burger with a price tag under $3? •2319 E Washington Blvd., 323-589.2220, damesngames.net.
5 Fantasy Island
Say you were on a road trip, and you were looking for the weirdest, most Raoul Dukeesque titty bar in town. In such a scenario you would find yourself thrilled to stumble upon 4. Fantasy Island in West L.A. The flashing but worn-down exterior looks like a haunted carnival, and the interior keeps
up the façade with bright house lights, girls dressed in neon sporting menacing neck tattoos, and a lap-dance "room," which is really an open area that has all the privacy of a jailhouse. • 11434 W. Pico Blvd., 310-4735678, fantasyislandclub.com.
6
Sam’s Hofbrau
Sam’s Hofbrau is one of the most reliable strip clubs that serves alcohol in Los Angeles. Sam’s has topless strippers and a full bar. Sam’s is inexpensive and in an industrial neighborhood. Cheap beers and no cover charge make it a really low commitment to just stop by and check it out for a drink . The women at Sam’s range a lot. You have nice looking gals but you also have really tight supermodel bodies as well. Stage shows are mild but can be sexy. Lap dances depend on the girl but are $10 and are done in a bikini with no nudity and with no privacy because you are in the same main room as everyone else. • 1751 E. Olympic Blvd., (213) 623-3989, samshofbrau.com.
7 Candy Cat Too
The Valley is a veritable goldmine of factory-style strip clubs like Déjà Vu and Spearmint Rhino, but sometimes a person just wants a beer and some boobs. For that, there's Candy Cat Too. The little topless bar in Canoga Park has stale pretzels resting on the counter and patrons who all seem to know each other, horsing around like a bunch of high school buddies at their 25th reunion. As for the girls, they're good dancers and low-maintenance. Just don't fuck with them. 6816 Winnetka Ave., 818-999-
9 Crazy Girls
The lights and stage here are like something out of a B movie, but don't expect things to get too blue at Crazy Girls. It's been a bikini bar (no nudity) for years, though the get-ups are teeny-eeeny. All the better to show off the ample ink decorating the rock chicks who shake here. Though it's somewhat divey, it's never actually crazy, dodgy or dangerous. Its heart of Hollywood locale (and live rock nights) attract a less aged-perv type and a more bodacious booze- and sexseeking scenester contingent. • 1433 N. La Brea Ave., 323-969-0055, lacrazygirls.com..
3187, thecandycats.com.
8 Déjà Vu
Complex ranked Noho's Déjà Vu 29th among its list of America's 50 best strip clubs. The club has been around for more than 15 years and offers a bunch of amenities for its customers, including more than 30 dance couches and six VIP booths outfitted for bachelor parties. The warmly lit interior may remind visitors of the '70s, as disco balls hang from the ceiling above plush, red couches on the main floor. • 7350 Coldwater Canyon Ave., 818-982-1199, dejavu.com. GentlemensGuideLA.com 59
10 Rouge Rouge is a strip club that makes you lose all sense of time and place, with five private dance areas and enough seating on the main floor for all of the bachelor parties, ever. The plush red velvet furniture in this Van Nuys strip emporium likely will remind you of opulence, which in turn will remind you of how much money you're putting out on the goddesses of night time nudity, but you should try to quickly forget. • 14626 Raymer Street, 818-786-1822, rougegentlemensclub.com.

11 Spearmint Rhino
The Spearmint Rhino Gentlemen’s Club is in downtown Los Angeles and is one of our top five est strip clubs in Los Angeles. If it’s not to busy, the place is great! it is newer and is better than most of the clubs on the Westside or the South Bay. Spearmint rhino has several other locations abs sister clubs through out. The best time to go is during the week. This club is highly visible from the freeway, is a widely recognized brand, and has been around longer than many of the other clubs you can get excellent treatment here if you want lap dances and if the place is not to busy $10-20 admission sometimes a drink for $5-6 is required and parking after 6pm is $5 and if you don’t user their lot you will probably lose your car to a chop shop. $20 topless $40 nude and something like $300 VIP. • 2020 E. Hangouts
Things We Love About LA
15
By Kaitlyn Fajilan
Some of the best and fun things to do in Los Angeles are free. Here are 15 fabulous hangouts that you may have never considered. 1. The Coastline
L.A. is easily the most enticing spot for beach culture along the west coast, so grab a towel and some sun block and head to one of this city’s many beach locations for billowy sand, glorious sunshine, and killer waves. We recommend El Matador Beach (about 10 miles northwest of Malibu) for a low-key getaway of crystal blue waters, or the livelier Manhattan Beach, where you can bodysurf, play beach volleyball, or ogle at the creatures at aquarium on the pier. Other amazing locales include the Santa Monica, Cabrillo, Hermosa, and Newport Beaches.
2. The Nightlife
The Escondite in Little Tokyo is one of LA’s nightlife gems—a combined restau-

rant, bar, and music venue where customers never get charged cover, they boast a host of musicians who play nightly, beer on tap, good service, their own parking lot, and delicious all-American food. Be sure to try their “Capt. Kangaroo,” an egg over easy burger packed with hash browns, cheddar, Canadian bacon, gravy, and Cholula.
3. The Stage
If you want to spend a night laughing till your sides hurt, check out Hollywood’s Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. They host affordable improv, standup, and sketch comedy shows seven nights a week. One ongoing show is “Facebook” ($5 per person), in which two random audience members will have their personal Facebook pages comically examined on stage.
4. The Karaoke
Admit it. You love belting out “I Will Always Love You” after a couple shots of Henney. You might as well do it in front of all your friends, as well as a room full of similarly inebriated strangers. Whether you’re rocking out to cheesy pop songs in a private booth at Feel in Koreatown, crooning old time jazz standards with a live band at the Hollywood Bar and Grill, or busting out some Queen at Howl at the Moon’s Tuesday night karaoke at Universal City. Another notable mention is Dimples in Hollywood, which provides a number of fashion props for you to wear as you sing, as well as a DVD of your first performance.
and rides, you can get some decent eating and shopping done in the adjacent Universal CityWalk. For a more intense experience, Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia boasts a number of rides with heart-stopping drops and head spinning loops, like Goliath and Riddler’s Revenge. Cool off during LA’s sweltering summers at Raging Waters in San Dimas, or for a chiller venue check out Pacific Park in Santa Monica, where you can ride their Ferris Wheel, roller coaster, and other attractions.
7. The Revelry
L.A. is home to countless conferences, conventions, and festivals that run the gamut
5. The Trails
L.A. is in no shortage of great hiking spots, so gear up and head to Escondido Falls in Malibu, which boasts a breathtaking 150 ft high waterfall. Runyan Canyon in Hollywood is another excellent hike, and celebrities are often spotted walking the trails. They also host free yoga classes everyday on the lawn. For a more extensive climb, try the 3-mile trek up to Henninger Flats in Pasadena. The Rose Bowl in Pasadena also 3 miles around and is another great place to get your jog on. Check out Runningtheusa.com for a listing of marathons and races in the LA area you can sign up for.
6. The Thrills
If Disneyland is for kiddies, Universal Studios in Hollywood is the manly man’s go-to for a getaway day with family or friends. In addition to movie magic tours GentlemensGuideLA.com 65
from the LA Film Festival to Coachella to the LA Bock Fest (read: beer festival). Be it an art, film, food, music, or cultural event, LA is home to a diverse array of ethnic and aesthetic enclaves. In spring alone, we have the Fiesta Broadway Festival, the Cherry Blossom Festival, the Annual Brazilian Carnival, and the JazzReggae Festival to look forward to. Visit gentlemensguidela.com for more event listings you can attend.
concoctions, Baby’s Badass Burgers, a mobile kitchen known for their tank tops and booty shorts-clad ”burger babes,” and Slap Yo Mama, which boasts a menu that includes the “Snoop Dog,” a Monte Cristo sandwich comprised of chicken and deep-fried mac and cheese squeezed between two syrup and powdered sugar-topped waffles.
9. The Vegan Option
Despite all those delicious caloriepacked food trucks, LA is also known for being super health conscious. It’s no wonder, then, that there are many restaurants in the city that are vegan-conscious. Some of its best vegan-friendly dine-in places include Café Gratitude, Real Food Daily, Sage Vegan Bistro, The Vegan Joint, Dr. J’s Vibrant Café, Tender Greens, and KindKreme.
10. The Movie Sets
8. The Food Trucks

12. The Murder Mysteries
15. The Horseback Riding
The staged ones, that is. The Murder Mystery Company in LA will have you scratching your head over “whodunit” when you attend one of their public or private dinner shows. Costumed performers come out while you eat and act out a cheesy Clue-esque plot, then supply audience members with fact sheets to piece together the ensuing murder mystery. Here are 11 Different Workouts that Beat Jogging By Jeffery Ellis
H
ello gents! Do you want to workout, but want to have options besides the typical jogging around the block? Like it or not, running makes for a really great cardio workout. Maintain a sixmile per hour pace, and you’ll burn upwards of 557* calories in one hour! And even if running that fast for that long seems like a bit of a stretch, you can still burn an impressive 398 calories per hour by simply jogging. But what’s that? You dislike any sport that involves putting one foot in front of the other in quick succession? Don’t sweat it. There are plenty of other activities that are just as effective in the calorie-burning department — and markedly less torturous then try Gentlemen’s Guide 11 suggestions and get fit and thin fast! 1. Cycling: Peddling on a stationary bike can burn just as many calories as jogging (398 calories) — even though you get to sit down while you do it. Dust off your old mountain bike or take a vigorous indoor cycling class, and you’ll incinerate even more calories. Both types burn about 483 per hour, depending on your speed and resistance.
74 GentlemensGuideLA.com
2. Jet Skiing: You’ll never guess how many calories you burn just by driving a jet ski: 398 in an hour! (For the record, that’s 86 more calories than you’d burn horseback riding, which is sort of on the similar side.) Experts say the water sport engages your core, quads, hamstrings, and upper body because it requires constant balance and effort to keep your body upright.
3. Walking Uphill With a Load: Turns out there is a benefit to schlepping around tons of stuff. Add about 10 pounds to your backpack (a few books or beverages should do the trick), and head for high altitude- like that great boutique at the top of the hill. You’ll burn about 415 calories per hour at a regular walking pace (usually about four miles per hour) — that’s 57 more than you’d burn on a standard stroll without the baggage.
4. In-Line Skating: Granted, it’s like running on wheels. But even if rollerblading didn’t burn 426 calories per hour, it’d still be more fun than jogging. It’s also a terrific work out! Don’t you agree?
9. Boxing: Boxing doesn’t just look fierce — it delivers. Get your gloves in the ring to burn about 727 calories in an hour. Or, try a less-intimidating kickboxing class to burn 585 calories in a 60-minute session.
5. Dancing: Aerobic dance can burn upwards of 443 calories per hour. And yes, sweaty Saturday-night dance parties totally count. Go to dance.com to see all the places you can go dancing at. 6. Rock Climbing: You’ll burn about 454 calories per hour on your way up and 284 per hour on your way down.
7. Jumping Rope: Your favorite childhood playground game is actually an incredible workout. Depending on your pace and intensity, it can burn about 670 calories an hour. Shoot for at least 100 skips per minute to get the most bang for your bounce. 8. Rowing: While rowing may sound like a low-key, sit-on-your-butt-while-yousweat kind of sport, it’s actually enormously effective. Because you actually row with your arms and your legs, it seriously puts your body through the wringer, burning about 682 calories in a 60-minute, high-intensity session.
10. Swimming: Swimming is a powerful way to work out just about every muscle in your entire body. You can’t lose with the breaststroke (585 calories per hour), the backstroke (540 calories per hour), or even the butterfly stroke (784 calories per hour) at a moderate to vigorous pace.
11. Running Up Stairs: OK, OK, so this one’s technically just as painful as actually running. But it can be more practical than running nowhere, especially for people who live in walk-up apartments. It also helps that scaling steps can burn almost 300 more calories than running on flat ground. That’s 852 calories per hour and completely worth the trip. *All estimates are based on one hour of activity for a 175-pound person, as per the 2013 Compendium of Physical Activities published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, and calorie calculations based on that research. If you weight more than 175, you’ll burn slightly more calories from these activities. If you weigh less, you burn slightly fewer calories. **If you only sweat for 30 minutes, just half the calorie counts listed above to find out approximately how many calories you’ve burned. n GentlemensGuideLA.com 75

Tips on How to Stay Romantic with Your Other Half By Andrea Montoya
en, how would you describe your current relationship? Is it flashy and exciting, or can it be described more as the same scene day after day? If you answered the latter, then it might be time to rearrange the game play. Women love their man’s company, but they adore being romanticized even more.
M
Women are emotional beings and must be treated as so. They are delicate creatures that must be shown that they are cared for and that they are the best thing to have ever happened to you. Show this by being there for her, and listening to her wants and 82 GentlemensGuideLA.com
needs. Don’t worry; we’ve got the tips to keep you covered.
It’s the Little Things that Count
Little things like surprising them with flowers every now and then, goes a long way. It shows them that you care enough to represent their beauty with a nice bouquet of long stem roses (or any flower arrangement that doesn’t burst the bank account). If you know how to cook, grab a cookbook and pick out a fresh recipe to make her dinner. She will highly appreciate the trouble you went through to find a romantic meal for her. Any talent that you have will impress her, so show off your skills.
Surprising ladies by flowers more often goes a long way. Show that you care about her by making her a cup of tea or giving her a nice massage once she gets home from work. If your lucky that might just lead to something more your style. During a movie night, opt to view one of her movies, even if chick flicks aren’t your thing; show her that her needs are just as important as yours. Most men out there are not big talkers. On the other hand, most women are, so be sure to talk to your partner and get to know her on a deeper level. Find out what she likes and dislikes. What are her goals and aspirations? Ask about her childhood, and what she hopes to attain in the future. Women love to share their thoughts and find out more about their man as well, and she will appreciate the effort.
are dates that can cost as little as $10, and as much as $25 for the pair of you. Some affordable, yet amazing ideas, are to start with what she enjoys. If she’s a reader, find an antique bookstore to take her to and pick out some good reads. If she’s more of a competitive spirit, take her to the local mini golf site or the batting cages to hit a few homeruns. If she’s into nature, go on an adventurous day hike and conquer the local trails. Bowling has become a cheap, but affordable option to take your date. If you want something different, find a flea market/thrift store and take your lady to browse,
Change Up ‘Date Night’
The dinner and movie date is a nice first couple of evenings, but gets stale even for a woman after a while. Change it up with some exciting new date ideas. Even cheap dates are available if the money isn’t. There GentlemensGuideLA.com 83
and remember those nostalgic products from a different era. There are even free local events offered around the area. Check your local listings, and you may come across free concerts in the park, movies in the park, or Shakespeare in the park. You can take your other half for a romantic stroll down the beach, make a bonfire, and snuggle up while roasting marshmallows. Another creative idea is to stop at a Color Me Mine where you can make artwork together and take home a keepsake afterwards. It can even be as simple as laying a blanket out with some snacks and watching the stars up above while reminiscing together.
Be Spontaneous and Whisk Her Away Even if it’s just to the donut shop down the street, the fact that you want her all to yourself will show her how much she means to you. If you want to be more extravagant, plan a trip for just the two of you. Reserve a hotel room for the night and visit somewhere where there will be plenty of memories to share. Don’t forget to grab a souvenir while you’re there! 84 GentlemensGuideLA.com
Take her somewhere that means a lot to you or that’s from your past. This is a bonding moment between the two of you and she will get a deeper look into who you were before she was lucky enough to enter into your life. Also, it may be embarrassing at first, but spontaneously burst into song and serenade your lucky lady with a song that you both enjoy.
The most important thing to remember is that she wants to spend quality time with you, and as long as she is with you during the date, no matter what or where it is, that is all that counts in her mind.
Show Her You Think She’s Special
mind. More unexpected gestures, such as a wrap-around hug or sneak in a kiss, and she will be smitten all over. Forms of PDA can be acceptable in public, so show her that you’re proud to be on her arm, by holding her hand, or kissing her when she least expects it.
A woman always wants to be shown how special she is. Try doing this by treating her like a queen and compliment her. Daily compliments go a long way, and get specif-
Just as a man likes to be complimented on his hard work, women crave that as well. So don’t forget to praise her, remind her ho
ic. Comment on how nice her outfit looks, how her hair looks so shiny, or even how lovely her eyes shimmer in the sunlight. Try leaving little love notes in her jacket pockets, her purse, or somewhere you know she is bound to look throughout the day. These notes show a more endearing side to you and she will definitely take notice. Technology has come a long way since 1950, and you can utilize this to your advantage. Unexpected text messages or calls can really boost her ego. Just by simply telling her “I miss you” or “I was just thinking about you” shows her that she is on your
beautiful you think she looks, and how lucky you are to have her in your life. Remember gents, if you want your woman to be happy, then prove it by staying romantic with her. All you have to do is to know that it’s the little things that count, make sure to change up the typical ‘date night’, be spontaneous and whisk her away every now and then, and above all, show her that you think she’s special. This will all go a long way for long-lasting happiness for the both of you. n
