A NEW UNIFIED BRAND FOR GEODIS We have recently united our varied worldwide operations under one unique brand, reaffirming our position as a leader in the global freight transport and logistics sector. Our existing brands (Geodis Calberson, Geodis Wilson, Geodis BM, Geodis Logistics and Geodis Supply Chain Optimisation) will disappear to be replaced by one stand-alone brand: GEODIS. This change is an opportunity for us to reaffirm our ability to offer a comprehensive end-toend supply chain management service to our customers. This will be delivered through our five lines of business: Supply Chain Optimisation, Freight Forwarding, Contract Logistics, Distribution & Express and Road Transport.
CUSTOMERS ARE AT THE HEART OF OUR STRATEGY Through client consultations over the past year, our customers and prospects shared their views on what they want from GEODIS. They asked for clarity and simplicity with an improved understanding of our offers and services. In announcing the new strategy, Geodis CEO Marie-Christine Lombard said, “The evolution of our new brand will unify the constituent parts of our group and will clarify our common mission. This new brand architecture was designed with our clients’ needs for simplicity, efficiency and consistency at its core. It is a unique brand that bears the same promise for all of our lines of business.” You may notice our refreshed “look and feel” over the coming months and years on buildings, vehicles, uniforms and trailers. INDUSTRY NEWS CHANNEL TUNNEL SETS TRUCK TRAFFIC RECORD
GEORGE OSBORNE FAILS TO ADDRESS DRIVER SHORTAGE
RHA CHIEF EXECUTIVE CALLS FOR BETTER MOTORWAY SERVICES
The Channel Tunnel transported a record number of trucks, a total of 140,009, in March 2015. An all-time record for its traffic volume over the course of a month.
Chancellor George Osborne has failed to make a commitment to funding for HGV driver training despite intensive lobbying by the Road Haulage Association (RHA) and the backing of 90 MPs.
RHA’s Chief Executive Richard Burnett stated that the nation’s Motorway Service Areas (MSA) are ‘woefully’ poor and needed to be made an election issue during a BBC interview.
Groupe Eurotunnel’s chairman and CEO Jacques Gounon said: “The new all-time record for truck traffic recorded in March shows the potential of the Channel Tunnel, which will be further strengthened by the current investment programme”.
The current driver shortage stands at 45,000, a crisis for the UK. The rejection of this call for funding will be a further blow to the transport industry that could severely impact the economy. However, despite the Chancellor’s refusal to add government funding he is due to have further discussions with the RHA in order to establilsh an industry-led solution.
He said: “For HGV drivers, the roads are their workplace. Like any employee, the conditions under which they work are of critical importance and they have the right to expect a good standard. At a time when our industry is facing a massive driver shortage, every issue that affects recruitment is vitally important. Who would want to take a job knowing that the basics, for example toilet facilities, are in a shocking state of repair?”
Figures released by Groupe Eurotunnel show an 8% increase in truck shuttle traffic in the first quarter of 2015 compared with the same period last year, with an increase from 347,021 vehicles to 373,635. Last year the group announced it planned to expand its capacity for HGVs by half a million per year, with a view boosting traffic volume and relieving congestion in and around the port.
RHA chief executive Richard Burnett said: “We have put forward a strong, clear argument for why funding is necessary and appropriate. Our lobby for funding support will be even stronger in the coming weeks.” The budget did, at least, bring some positive news for the transport industry with the continued freeze on fuel and HGV excise duty.
The RHA welcomes the government plan to set up ‘design panels’ of experts who will look at the quality of MSAs. They would be pleased to work with them to bring about the change that is so desperately needed.

Founded over thirty years ago by Anthony Mascolo, TIGI quickly established a reputation for products that are designed ‘by hairdressers for hairdressers’ and now has five brands that offer a diverse approach to professional hair care. Paul Cox, UK Distribution Centre Manager for TIGI, began working with GEODIS UK in November 2014 on a trial basis. Starting with deliveries to locations further afield, such as Poland and Iceland, GEODIS UK was able to demonstrate its logistics solutions across Europe and ultimately won the contract in March 2015. GEODIS UK now operates a daily service for TIGI that utilises a stand trailer at the Haircare company’s UK distribution centre. The goods are transported to GEODIS’ Paris hub and sorted onto regional trucks for delivery to salons and wholesalers in over sixteen countries in Europe. Paul Cox said: “GEODIS UK has a unique approach to logistics in Europe. Headquartered in France, it has the capability to deliver efficiently to our customers and use green schemes such as its Distropolis network in Paris to ensure its carbon footprint remains as low as possible. SIMPLEHUMAN & GEODIS TRIALS PROVING SUCCESSFUL simplehuman, the premium housewares brand, is currently trialling a logistics partnership with GEODIS UK that will provide efficient deliveries to clients across France. Initially handling the shipment of the company’s bins to nine of its clients, GEODIS transports the goods from Northampton as a combined shipment of orders to GEODIS’ Paris hub. The orders are then sorted onto regional vehicles and delivered to simplehuman’s clients, all within 48 hours! simplehuman designs tools to help people become more efficient at home, including hi-tech bins and soap dispensers, kitchen and bathroom accessories, and sensor mirrors. The brand’s ethos of efficiency is echoed in the solutions offered by GEODIS and this has been one of the main reasons for the partnership. James Dowdeswell, simplehuman’s Finance and Operations Director, said: “We started working with GEODIS in January 2015 after discussions on improving our supply chain. We have found that GEODIS delivers on time, particularly when a specific time slot is required, and it follows up those deliveries with great customer service. It’s reassuring to know that our goods are meeting our clients’ and customers’ expectations, right down to when they will be delivered. “GEODIS has always gone the extra mile to fulfill client specific solutions and that is promising when it comes to building our future working relationship with the company.” The trial started in January 2015 and GEODIS are set to see an increase in work for simplehuman over the coming weeks.
