The Honor Academy is designed to cultivate and develop the leadership potential in young adults while giving them the opportunity to impact the world for Christ. All are designed to give each intern at the Honor Academy a balanced, strategic approach to godly character and lasting leadership skills.

PARENT BROCHURE 3

Dear parents,

dAVId hAsZ

As the Executive Director of the Honor Academy I have had the opportunity to observe the very real and concerning shift in the culture in which young people are now living. During my time as the Director of the Honor Academy and before that as a high school teacher and coach, I have seen that some of the biggest influences in a young person’s life are the people with whom they surround themselves with. I have watched, with great sadness and agony, some of the strongest Christian young people graduate from high school and charge into life without possessing the character qualities necessary to live as shining lights for Jesus.

At the Honor Academy, we are experts at building on the solid foundation that already is in place in a young person’s life in order to see them become the leaders of their generation. During a year in the Honor Academy, your young person will be surrounded by other like minded godly Christians. We are confident they will receive more clarity concerning what God has called them to do with their lives. They will learn to be disciplined physically, mentally, and, most importantly, spiritually. It is our goal that every graduate of the Honor Academy be equipped and prepared to go to college and succeed. The Honor Academy defines success for each young person as being able to impact their fellow students with the gospel to excel academically, move forward in their life’s mission and be ready to face the challenges ahead. Please consider making the Honor Academy the next step in the life of your young person. We desire to walk together with you in launching your young person into the world as a pillar of righteousness and a beacon of light in a very dark world! Semper Honorablus,

DAVID M. HASZ Executive Director

Most importantly, they experience a lifechanging encounter with Jesus Christ. Each year more than 700 students take advantage of the spiritual, academic, and personal training at the Honor Academy. The campus is located on 472 beautiful wooded acres in Garden Valley, Texas. The Honor Academy was created with a vision and passion to prepare young people to be tomorrow’s dynamic Christian leaders. Every aspect of the experience has been infused with opportunities for growth and leadership training that will teach interns how to lead, follow, and serve with Christ-like integrity and focus. “Imagine spending a year of your life surrounded by young people sold out for Jesus and completely passionate about fighting for this generation. I am continually inspired by other people my age who are willing to go to the ends of the earth for the sake of Christ. I am excited for what the Lord has in store for me and I desire to be used for His glory.” Brandon | Class of ‘08

SPIRITUAL GROWTH

To ensure your young person will stay strong amidst the sway of the culture and godless philosophies, they need to be deeply rooted in the foundations of the faith. The Honor Academy builds on the bedrock of Christian values and equips each young person with the biblical truths they need to stay on course.

Speakers In addition to regular biblical teachings from Teen Mania President Ron Luce and Honor Academy Director David Hasz, students will learn from today’s most inspiring Christian leaders. Through intensive training, interns will build a strong spiritual foundation and discover their unique God-given gifts.

Chapel Each week, staff and interns gather for worship and insightful teaching. This valuable time together allows the students and staff to grow both as individuals and as a spiritual family. Interns are also required to consistently attend a Sunday morning church service of their choice in the community.

Accountabillity Interns are challenged spiritually and held accountable by leaders and peers at the Honor Academy. It is an environment that encourages students to build accountability into personal relationships with their roommates, other interns, and core groups. A core is made up of 10-18 same gender peers and is led by a core advisor. The peers meet regularly for accountability, Bible study, and fellowship.

Quiet Time and Bible Reading Each student is required to have a one hour quiet time every day. All schedules are designed with this hour in mind throughout the year to encourage the development of this daily habit. In addition, interns are provided with a Bible-reading program to follow during the course of their year.

Portfolio Interns will compose a Life Mission Statement (to explain and capture the vision God has given them for their life), a written plan of action, and a portfolio of key events and experiences during their year.

Bi-weekly Fasting Days Every other week, one day is set aside for fasting and prayer. All interns meet in the auditorium for prayer during the scheduled lunchtime.

Missions Requirement All interns will participate in a Global Expeditions mission trip or Honor Academy Adventure trip before graduating from The Honor Academy. Global Expeditions offers teens and interns mission trips that range in cost from $399- $4,000, with national and worldwide ministry opportunities. For more information visit globalexpeditions.com

Life Transforming Events During various Life Transforming Events (LTEs), interns are challenged physically, emotionally, and spiritually as they are stretched beyond what they believe is possible. Students never forget what they learn about themselves, others, and God during these moments of endurance, soul-searching, and growth. Some LTE’s include: Emotionally Stretching Opportunity of a Lifetime (ESOAL), Men’s & Woman’s Retreat, Endurance (10K run), and Unreached People Groups. These weekend experiences stimulate growth in the lives of interns and are effective tools to equip them with leadership skills.

Dorm Life Students live with up to five other interns in dormitory-style accommodations on Teen Mania’s campus. This environment fosters life-long friendships and accountability with peers who hold the same passion for Christ. Roommates meet

weekly to talk about issues they are facing and Core Advisors hold regular meetings in the dorm. Interns also learn how to take care of themselves by doing their own laundry and serving on dish duty in the cafeteria.

Core Groups Each Core Advisor (CA) oversees 12-18 undergraduate interns. Those interns make up a Core. The CA leads the discipleship of each Core and focuses on the growth of each member. CAs are Graduate Interns serving in their second or third year in the Honor Academy who have completed a rigorous selection and training program.

Outreach Opportunities Students find countless opportunities to reach out to the local community. Many interns decide to donate their time to local churches and ministries while others get involved in community service projects to share their faith. Honor Academy participants are also given the incredible opportunity to travel internationally on a Global Expeditions mission trip.

Intramurals The Honor Academy’s goal is to develop a well rounded individual ready to meet the challenges of society. That includes social skills and physical health. The campus environment offers ample opportunities for social growth and interaction, as well as sporting events and team building activities.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Every aspect of the Honor Academy experience has been infused with opportunities for growth that will teach students how to lead, follow, and serve with Christ-like integrity and focus. Each intern is part of a multi-tiered leadership structure that provides personal attention and coaching to help him or her develop the strength of character needed for true impact and significance throughout life.

Ministry Placements and Mentoring A critical ingredient of the Honor Academy experience is the ministry placement. Interns serve alongside staff members in various areas of the ministry, learning the professional skills and confidence that will benefit them for a lifetime. Students work on the frontlines of ministry in areas such as: • Telephone representative • Administrative assistant • Culinary crew • Information Technologies

• Graphic design • Maintenance support • Operations support

For approximately 31 hours a week, interns serve while learning vocational skills and developing their own gifts and talents. Our unique structure places each individual under godly mentors who mold and enhance their skills while teaching them the leadership and professionalism that young adults can take with them to college and their chosen career.

HONOR ACADEMY STAFF

Surrounded by Godly leaders and other young people who have a passion for God, teens are thoroughly equipped to develop a vision, pursue that vision, and then influence the culture and impact this generation. Each intern serves in their ministry placement under the close supervision of a Teen Mania staff member. Staff members lead, train, and develop their teams, giving each intern the opportunity to develop professionally while earning the respect of others in the work place. It is an opportunity unlike any other where interns can develop invaluable career skills like project management, customer service, team building, time management, computer skills, financial responsibility, negotiating techniques, phone etiquette, and interpersonal skills. Staff leadership is a vital part of all classes, ministry placements, Life Transforming Events, outreaches, and mission trips.
