Spotlight on Students Chan Riiny
Chan Riiny Brings Life to Anderson Hall with Basketball Mural
A new mural covers the walls of Anderson Hall thanks to the talents of Chan Riiny. Men’s Head Basketball Coach Chris Briggs encouraged Riiny to find a location on campus where his work could be shared. “After showing Coach Briggs my work, he asked me if I could paint something on campus. As I looked at pictures of iconic moments and previous championships around Coach Briggs’ office, it gave me the motivation and the inspiration for the mural,” said Riiny. Born in South Sudan, Riiny immigrated to the U.S. and is a resident of San Francisco. He learned about GC from basketball recruiters and plays forward on the team. In his sophomore year at GC, Riiny is majoring in business, with a minor in art to express his creative side. “I took a painting class with Boris Zakić, and he taught me different painting and drawing techniques,” said Riiny. “From coaches to professors, there is a great support system here at Georgetown."
