Application Deadlines and Decision Notifications
We highly recommend submitting your application and all required documentation as early as possible in order to secure your space in the program
If the program’s seat limit is met earlier than expected, then later application rounds may be canceled.
Application Requirements
These instructions provide important information that you need to successfully submit your application. If you have questions, contact the MGF Admission Office well in advance of the deadline to ensure the processing and review of your application is not delayed. All initial requirements may be submitted through the application system.

Application Form
Applications must be submitted through our online application portal
Upon submission of your online application, you will receive a confirmation email reflecting the date and time of submission. You may check the status of your application online by logging back into your online application account and accessing the application status section, or by contacting your Admissions Manager. We encourage you to do this periodically throughout the application process.
Current Resume
Submit a current resume in months/year format that corresponds to the information submitted in your online application. If your resume is not in the month/year format, you may be asked to re-submit it. Your resume should clearly identify part-time and internship experience.
Video Essay
Video Essay Prompt: The video essay component of the application provides you with an opportunity to summarize what you have shared in your essay (and any other components of your application) in a "conversational" format. We ask that you address the following questions:
1. Briefly introduce yourself.
2. Why do you want to pursue an MGF at Georgetown?
3. What are your short-term and long-term career plans following graduation?
Guidelines & Formatting:
• Your video essay should be no more than 3-5 minutes in length.
• The admissions committee would like for you to appear in your video.
• You may use your phone, computer, or other means to record the video, but please ensure all audio and visual components are clear. It is important that you face the camera directly with lighting in front of you so that your face is well-lit. It also is important that you record your video in a quiet space.
• Upload your video to an accessible website (such as YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive, Youku, or Tudou), and submit the direct video URL into your online application.
• Please note that all videos must remain active and accessible to the admissions committee online for a minimum of five years for record retention purposes.
• For your privacy: Do not include your name in the title of your video. You may submit “unlisted” videos via YouTube, password-protected videos via Vimeo, or link shared through your Google Drive. If using a password, please include it immediately after your link in the text box below. [Ex: www.vimeo.com/123, password: your password] If using a shared link through Google Drive, ensure you have allowed external access.
• The video is for the purposes of admissions only and will not be used for any other purposes after your decision is provided.
Statement of Purpose
The Statement of Purpose provides you the opportunity to share with the Admissions Committee things about yourself not immediately evident in your resume. We recommend you take careful consideration when writing this portion of your application. Your Statement of Purpose should address:
1. Why do you want to enroll in an MGF program?
2. Why do you want to attend Georgetown University?
3. Why should the Admissions Committee accept you?
4. What are your career aspirations and expectations upon receiving your MGF degree?
Essay Guidelines:
This essay should be double-spaced using 12 pt. font and between 400 to 500 words. Prepare your attachments offline in separate document files and upload them individually. Georgetown University prides itself on honesty and integrity. Plagiarism is not tolerated and the Admissions Committee reserves the right to deny applicants or rescind admission if plagiarism is found.
Professional Recommendation
One recommendation is required for the Georgetown MGF application. We are interested in gaining insight from someone who can objectively evaluate your professional performance as well as managerial and leadership potential.
The MGF Admissions Committee requests that you choose one current (or former, if necessary) supervisor. You also may choose to add a second individual within your professional network to submit a letter of recommendation (no subordinates). The second individual also may be a faculty member. We strongly discourage letters from family members.
Recommenders are required to submit the recommendation forms online and will receive detailed instructions once you complete the recommendations section of your application. The recommenders may submit a letter or performance review as part of the online form.
Transcripts/Academic Credentials
You are required to hold a three/four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
To apply: We require you upload unofficial copies of your transcripts from all institutions that have conferred a degree to you or will have conferred a degree to you by the program start date.
If admitted/enrolled: All applicants who are admitted and enroll will be required to submit official transcripts from all institutions that have conferred a degree to you. Georgetown McDonough reserves the right to withdraw any offer of admission if there is a discrepancy between the uploaded unofficial transcript and/or translation, and the official original language transcript and/or the official translation.
Instructions for transcripts:
1. All submitted transcripts must display the following:
• student’s name
• university name
• course names
• type of degree and degree conferral information
• grading scale
• cumulative GPA
• all grades received (including from transfer credits and study abroad programs)
2. We require proof a degree was conferred and the date of graduation.
• If your transcript does not explicitly state that a degree was conferred or the date of graduation, you should obtain an official letter from your university indicating the date of your graduation and the degree conferral date. This letter should be enclosed in a signed, sealed envelope and included with your transcript.
3. A transcript is official when delivered via ONE of the following options:
• submitted in an envelope which is issued by your institution(s) and sealed by your university’s registrar’s office (or equivalent office) to the address below:
ATTN: Master of Science in Global Finance Program Office Georgetown University 37th and O Streets, NW
Room 520, Rafik B. Hariri Building Washington, D.C. 20057 USA
• submitted from your institution via a secure electronic delivery (such as Scrip-Safe or Parchment) via email to: MGFadmissions@georgetown.edu.
• requested from the appropriate institution’s registrar, returned to you, and submitted unopened.
We require all transcripts be submitted in English. Most major foreign universities will issue official transcripts in English themselves. However, if your institution is unable to do this, you are responsible for providing Georgetown McDonough with an English translation of your transcript. Your translator must certify that the original documentation was received in a sealed envelope from your university or issuing institution. After translating, your translator should enclose both the original (non-translated) and the certified translation in an envelope and seal and sign the envelope. The transcript should be enclosed in a signed, sealed envelope and submitted by mail to Georgetown McDonough.
As an alternative to an individual translator providing certified translations, international applicants who attend institutions outside of the United States may submit their transcripts in the form of a credential evaluation. While this service is not required, we recommend the World Education Services (WES) ICAP evaluations. Credential evaluations may take the place of official transcripts, as long as they come to Georgetown McDonough directly from the evaluation service provider and include a copy of the official transcripts you had evaluated.
Due to the volume of applications we receive, we are unable to send a confirmation receipt for mailed credentials. However, we will update the online application system indicating whether or not each application component has been received. Please allow several weeks after the application deadline for your application materials to be processed.
Standardized Test Score Submissions
It is required that MGF applicants submit one of the following standardized test scores: GMAT, GRE, or CAT. An official score report must be submitted once you have been admitted and prior to matriculating into the program. Below are the guidelines for each test:
Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) Score
If you have taken the GMAT, an official score must be sent directly to Georgetown University MGF Admissions. All components of the GMAT are required to be completed, including the Analytical Writing Assessment section. Your test result must not be more than five years old. To send your score, you may choose Master of Science in Global Finance (India) or enter the code JT7-G0-99.
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Score
If you have chosen to take the GRE, you need to request that ETS (Educational Testing Services) send your GRE score to the Master of Science in Global Finance Department at Georgetown University. To request scores electronically, use the institution code 1512 Georgetown University MS in Global Finance. We are not able to accept copies or unofficial score reports.
Common Admissions Test (CAT) Score
If you would like to submit your CAT score, you must upload an e-copy of your scorecard to the application. Admitted applicants will need to provide the Georgetown University MGF Admissions Committee with a set of credentials to access the scorecard on the official CAT website.
Demonstrated English Language Proficiency:
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Score or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Score
A TOEFL or IELTS score is required for students who are non-native English speakers, for students who have not completed a degree at a university where English is the primary language of instruction, or for students who have not worked in an English-speaking country for at least three years.
Most applicants who take the TOEFL will take the internet-based (iBT). A minimum score of 100 is required. For those who take the paper-based test, a minimum score of 600 is required. As an alternative to the TOEFL, we accept International English Language Testing System (IELTS) results. We require a minimum score of 7.5 out of 10 on the academic module. We accept only academic module results. For more information about IELTS registration, visit www.ielts.org. TOEFL
Designated Institution (DI) Code: D895
Application Fee
You are required to submit a $50 USD nonrefundable application fee, payable online via credit card. Applicants who attend an information session before submitting their application will receive a waiver from an admission manager.
Your Email and Mobile Phone Contact Information
We require you to provide a non-work email that is valid and your mobile phone number. Also, you must add the appropriate Georgetown MGF email address ‒mgfadmissions@georgetown.edu ‒ to your saved contacts to prevent important emails from being directed to your spam folder.
Admissions Policies
• Your online application must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. IST on the deadline date. Applications received after the deadline or that do not contain all of the required components may be considered for the next admissions round.
