PAT T E R N B O O K LET GEORGIA ROBERTS
INITIAL RESEARCH i gathered primary images inspired by british in-
terior designer ben kelly. his strong use of colour and line immediately make any built space reach its full potential. the leeds trinity kitchen had a strong industrial feel, featuring metal and cement surfaces and brightly coloured, accented furniture and features.
MARK MAKING inspired by my photographs, i then used a range of different media including various paints, electrical tape and marker pens, to create mark making on a strip of wallpaper. this provided me with the foundation to my pattern designs.
DEVELOPING MY PATTERNS i used photoshop to change the colours within cropped sections of pattern. the use of colour was inspired by the trend offbeat with pink, green, blue and yellow hues.
INSPIRED BY KALEIDOSCOPE artists such as mitch payne inspired the use of geometric shapes and line within the patterns. i scaled down the original primary image and created the patterns using adobe illustrator. the formation of the pattern eg. hexagons or block rows formed effective, repeated patterns.
PLAYING WITH VARIED SCALE
with each colour group i made the pattern into, i used the scale and pattern tools on adobe illustrator to cause different outcomes to occur (see right). with regards to my own tshirt design for studio 805, the scale of the pattern i use could affect how high quality the garment will look. a smaller scale of pattern, much like that in the panel of lanvin’s tshirt, looks more detailed and effective therefore more expensive or premium.
