CARLTON DEMENTIA CARE CENTRE Inner-suburban community health centre for dementia and elderly patients. > SUBJECT Design Studio Epsilon Academic Project [Individual]

> PROJECT OVERVIEW Regaining sense of control is scientifically-proven to improve one's wellbeing. CARLTON DEMENTIA CARE CENTRE aims to assist dementia patients (and other elderly patients) in restoring their sense of control, which are often absent in poorly-designed health facilities that disregard patients' unspoken needs. The community health centre achieves this architecturally by facilitating wayfinding and imparting a domestic impression. > PRECEDENTS 1100 Architects — "Irish Hunger Memorial" Cliff Garten Studio — "Ribbons Plaza" Design Inc — "Ballarat Community Health Care Centre" HKL Studio — "Asahicho Clinic" Robert Venturi — "Vanna Venturi House" Steven Holl Architects — "Ex of In House"

A.BOUND Narrow, inner-suburban terrace house for a multigenerational family. > SUBJECT Design Studio Gamma Academic Project [Individual]
> TERM Year 2, Semester 2, 2018 [Reworked - March 2020]
> SITE 4 MacArthur Place North Melbourne, Australia
> TUTOR Camilo Cruz camilo.cruz@unimelb.edu.au
> PROJECT OVERVIEW A.BOUND is a 141 square-meter three-bedroom private residence, configured to adaptably accommodate a family of six over the span of three decades. The design of A.BOUND is founded on familial values of abounding support. This idea is architecturally manifested by roofed exterior entryways, front and rear elevation grid brise-soleil, interior and exterior displays of structure, and superimposed gable roofs > PRECEDENTS John Lautner — "Malin Chemosphere Residence" Kennedy Nolan — "Oak Tree House" Kennedy Nolan — "Carlton Warehouse" Le Corbusier — "Carpenter Centre for Visual Arts"

Structure — A.BOUND’s underlying structure is made apparent on both interior and exterior. > IDEA: ABOUNDING SUPPORT Support is a core family value. Family members ought to offer abounding support as a means of displaying care. A.BOUND realises this idea by two key elements: its underlying structure and roof, which synonymously provide abounding support for its occupants.
Roof — A.BOUND’s superimposed gable roofs accentuates a supportive and protective interior atmosphere.
5170 MacArthur Place St.
> SITE PLAN The narrowness of the site makes it challenging to secure access to sunlight and outdoor air for all rooms. A.BOUND resolves this by positioning habitable rooms towards northsouth exteriors and by placing a lightwell on the centre of the plan. Nicholls Ln.

WARPWAY Parametrically-produced pavilion to facilitate a seminar and a quartet. > SUBJECT Digital Design Academic Project [Individual]
> TERM Year 2, Semester 1, 2018 [Revised - April 2020]
> SITE Queen Victoria Gardens Melbourne, Australia
> TUTOR Xuyou Yang [Chelle] xuyou.yang@unimelb.edu.au
> PROJECT OVERVIEW WARPWAY is a 25 square-meter pavilion, parametricallyconfigured to provide a venue for public events and performances. The design intends to impart an experience of being enwrapped by nature, realised through its form. WARPWAY’s sinuous form blurs distinct physical enclosures of walls and roof with its curvature dictated by the site's sun path. > PRECEDENTS Charles and Ray Eames — "Eames Molded Plywood Chair" Frank Gehry — "Cross Check Chair" Sori Yanagi — "Butterfly Stool"

> FORM: DESIGN STRATEGIES
Alexan dra Av e.
> IDEA: WRAPPED BY NATURE Building occupants often become oblivious to their surroundings once they are inside. WARPWAY attempts to revert the attention back to the surrounding Queen Victoria Gardens by designing an experience of being sheltered in the omnipresence of nature.
Sun Path — WARPWAY’s form physically expresses the sun as an omnipresent element of nature, and the form shelters occupants from sun rays.
d Roa ilda St. K

Sinuous Wrap — WARPWAY's sinuous, fluid form unifies the supposedly disjointed, conventional enclosure elements (walls and roof) to form a single wrap.
> FORM: GRASSHOPPER 3D WARPWAY was entirely modelled on Grasshopper 3D. Grasshopper 3D was valuable in the form-finding process because it greatly facilitated the development of iterations. WARPWAY's area, height, depth, thickness, and tilt are all parametrically adjustable with Grasshopper 3D.

A nuclear family's lighthearted dwelling. > SUBJECT Non-Academic Project [Individual]
> TERM May to June 2020
> SITE Jl. Pulau Panjang VI M6/8 Jakarta, Indonesia
> PLOT Size - 8x18m Front Setback - 5m
> PROJECT OVERVIEW CASA CALOR is is an ongoing private residence commission study for a lively family of four. CASA CALOR’s design idea pivots on the unifying warmth of familial love. This idea is architecturally realised through CASA CALOR’s generous, sunlit living spaces, alongside its curving curtain walls and playfully peculiar fixtures. > PRECEDENTS Architecture Architecture — "Park Life House" Austin Maynard Architects — "Newry House" Clare Cousins — "Brick House" Fala Atelier — "098" MAIO — "110 Rooms" Pascali Semerdjian Arquitetos — "Toy House" Ryan Leidner Architecture — "White Twin Gable House" Soar Design Studio — "Life in Tree House"

Sunlit Interior — A central light well and rear courtyard permeates sunlight into the interior, amplifying an omnipresent feeling of warmth.

> SITE PLAN CASA CALOR is situated on a 144 metre-square residential complex lot in West Jakarta. Its double-storey height takes into account the height of its neighbouring houses.
Curving Curtain Wall — Its curvature is synonymous to the dynamic hearty nature of warmth and familial love. Open Plan— Absence of spatial division accentuates the living space as a familial melting pot. > IDEA: UNIFYING WARMTH Individual family members are distinct, yet the warmth of their familial love unifies them together — diversely unique, yet glued as one. CASA CALOR delightfully cherises this abstract idea by focusing on designing the living space as the family’s melting pot.
