HIGHLIGHTS OF 2015
GTCC recorded yet another notable year in 2015 with many events and activities, some of which resulted from engaging in partnerships with counterparts and leading international organisations. A selection of the highlight events are listed below.
2.1. Membership activities In 2015, GTCC identified valuable topics for discussion, and hosted various breakfast talks and luncheons with leading par tners that catered to the interests of its members. 2.1.1. Breakfast Talks and Luncheons Breakfast Talk with Dr. Fuchs On 28 August GTCC welcomed Dr. Michael Fuchs, member of the German Parliament and Vice-Chairman of the CDU/ CSU Parliamentary Group, at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok as speaker at an exclusive Breakfast Talk. The topic, “Germany’s current role in the world economy”, was discussed in an intimate circle of exclusive guests. One of the issues outlined by Dr. Fuchs was Germany’s position in the Euro crisis and the necessity for reforms in Greece. He also paid attention to the current refugee problem in Europe and emphasised the fact that well-integrated migrants might be a solution for the German demographic problem of a constantly declining reproduction rate. Furthermore, Dr. Fuchs expressed his concern about the short time frame in which the German government intended to shift to solely renewable sources of energy, especially in the light of the Ukrainian crisis and Europe’s dependence on Russian gas supplies.
Exclusive Breakfast Talk with ThyssenKrupp AG GTCC welcomed Dr. Heinrich Hiesinger, Chairman of the Executive Board (CEO), ThyssenKrupp AG, and the responsible board member for Asia-Pacific, as its guest speaker at a GTCC exclusive Breakfast Talk on 13 March at the Sukhothai Bangkok Hotel. In his keynote address, titled “From German steel giant to global diversified industrial – An exciting journey”, Dr. Hiesinger gave the audience an overview on the challenges faced under his leadership and how he led the company through them, positioning it “back in black” and recording a profit again for the first time after three years of economic slowdown by implementing various strategies. One significant stratagem – the Strategic Way Forward, which was based on the four pillars of “change management“, “people in success“, “performance orientation“, and “customers and markets” – played an important part in reviving business and resulted in strengthening the company’s financial stability and giving it a strategic boost. In his elaboration on the strategy, he highlighted the importance of the workforce in driving the company forward to success.

5.3. Other Staff of the Consultancy Services Department actively supported and undertook the following activities: Meetings with numerous company representatives from various industry sectors for business advisory and consulting purposes regarding Thailand and Germany as business locations and hubs; Supporting activities of the German-ASEAN Chamber Network (GACN); Fostering the relationship with partners in Cambodia and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic; Organising events hosted by the GTCC; Organising workshops, seminars and trade fairs.
5.4. Testimonials “GTCC offered a professional and fruitful experience to us. It was our first time organising a company visit in Germany and the Netherlands for a group of 25 Thai SMEs. With high expectation from the group, we had to carry out a great deal of research and preparation for the trip. Luckily, the GTCC staff were friendly and very helpful. They discussed with us openly, and brought us constructive ideas and confidence. In particular, we admire their positive attitude under stressful situations and capability of solving problems finally. We always recommend GTCC to our partners. Nothing is better than having good friends to do good jobs together, and GTCC is one such friend.” Dr. Sarocha Phumbua, Technology Management Centre, National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA).
“We, the Medical Machinery Branch of Kiefel GmbH in Freilassing, have been seeking an agency in Thailand this year. It came in handy that the AHK have a well-established branch office in Bangkok, from which we requested aid in surveying and interviewing potential partners. Suitable candidates were quickly identified by the AHK-Thailand Project manager. Soon afterwards we were able to commence interviews and conclude an agreement with a candidate. All in all, we sincerely thank the AHK Thailand team, namely Mr. Mehner and Khun Pornpannee, for their competent, comprehensive and quick execution of our needs.” Bruno Jost, Area Sales Manager SE-Asia/Australasia Medical Industry, KIEFEL GmbH.
“At the beginning of the year we employed the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce to assist us with the pre-selection of exhibition visitors. We specified different groups of companies that should be contacted and could be in line for distribution with Hauraton. The selection of possible companies by AHK was very good and we had interesting conversations at our exhibition stand. In the end we chose an exclusive partner out of that pre-selection.” Fabian Reuter, Senior Consultant, Hauraton GmbH & Co. KG.

7.2. GTDEE service portfolio GTDEE has established a set of services for all participating partners for sustainable implementation of Dual Vocational Education and Training (DVET) in several areas. To ensure dual training on a permanently high level, company, colleges and students interested in the GTDEE programme must go through several assessments to screen the competence status of all partners. Therefore, GTDEE has developed a selection procedure for companies, colleges and students. A company or college that provides “dual training” must fulfill certain requirements regarding the suitability of the training premises. A quality analysis system (DVQD) developed by GTDEE and BUSEM (Bangkok University School of Entrepreneurship and Management) identify gaps in several areas, i.e., internal management, infrastructure and methods of teaching. After the identification of the gaps GTDEE consults on all issues in DVET by advising, i.e., on curricula or training plan development or by conducting different types of technical workshops and seminars. To enhance a collaborative exchange between the co-operating partners GTDEE has developed a set of E-Services to exchange relevant informationbetween teachers and trainers or for using E-Learning software for relevant training issues in technical professions. The objective of the examinations provided by GTDEE is to ensure a comparable nationwide standard in theoretical and practical examinations that will be cer tified by the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce.
