Program Goal

The Gardner Edgerton Summer Enrichment Program is designed to support student learning with engaging, high interest activities that promote student creativity, problem-solving, and reinforcement of core learning skills.

Enrichment Locations

Classes will be held at Trail Ridge Middle School (495 East Grand Street, Gardner, KS, 66030)

Session 1: June 5 - 8 -- $75 per session

Session 2: June 12 - 15 -- $75 per session

Session 3: June 20 - 22 **NO CLASSES MONDAY, JUNE 19 -- $60 per session

Session 4: June 26 - 29 -- $75 per session

**Two Session Courses are $150

Registration will be completed online through www.usd231.com Each Enrichment Course in this catalog is directly linked to online enrollment

How to Register

Look through the catalog and find the classes you would like to enroll in. “Click to Register” will take you to the online enrollment for that course

Log into your TeamSideline account If you don't have an account, you can set one up (Username and Password). Make sure to add your child to your account by clicking “Add Enrollee”.

Enroll your child/children into desired courses. Credit card, check, or cash payments accepted. Drop off or mail payments to USD 231 Board of Education Offices, Attention: GEYCP 231 E Madison Street, PO Box 97, Gardner, Kansas 66030

A convenience fee applies if paying by credit card.

Important Notes for Summer Enrichment

Registration deadlines:

June 5-8 registrations end on May 24

June 12-15 registrations end on May 31

June 20-22 registrations end on June 7

June 26-29 registrations end on June 14

School year 2023-2024 grades apply for Enrichment Courses. Grade levels vary by camp and are included in the camp information in the catalog.

A minimum of 5 students is required for a class to be in session. You will be notified if your class does not meet the minimum number of students.

FULL PAYMENT is required prior to the first day of the course.

Summertime Spine & Dine

Instructor: Carolyn Doolittle

This school-kid friendly book club that provides opportunities for students to have a positive encounter with a book (that won’t include a test afterwards!) Students are encouraged to appreciate the “listening & talking” experience that focuses on a good story. Additionally, participants enjoy a few snacks with their friends in a safe environment.

French for Elementary

Instructor: Cameron Hale

Have you ever wanted to learn another language? Do you like silly stories about talking dogs wearing pants eating omelettes? Do you like to draw and color? Sing and listen to music? We will do all of that and more during French for Elementary! This class is a great way for kids to learn about the exciting and beautiful French language well before they have the chance to take it in high school Students will come away with knowing a few basics of the language, how to talk a bit about their daily lives, tell simple, weird stories to their family and friends, and begin to develop a life-long love for learning languages! Repeat students are welcome as the class stories and activities will change weekly.

Come and join my art class workshop, where we will have fun learning the basics of acrylic painting! We will be learning a few different techniques associated with acrylic painting to help your creativity and imagination run wild! Step by step I will be helping and guiding you to create a masterpiece

Artists of the Past, Present, and Future!

Instructor: Adrienne Mayer

Students will get an opportunity to learn about famous artists from the past and the present They will learn facts about each artist, see examples of their art, and will get to create their own artistic creations using the same style! Students will get to paint, sculpt and draw Students will also get to explore what their own artistic style is and create a project to show it off!

Build-A-Book

Instructor: Lydia Brown

Your budding author will enter a world where they become the creator of their own story We’ll explore exciting texts together, taking a journey into story elements: character development, plot, setting, and theme! We’ll play interactive games to reinforce skills (maybe making up a silly story or two or thirty) throughout the week Your author will choose from a variety of writing formats Superhero in a comic book? You bet! Talking vegetables stuck in a picture book? Got it ! Zip, zap, zing and other onomatopoeias in an audio book? Huzzah! Take the stage with a dramatic reading? By jove; we’ll do it! What they’ll take home: A newfound love for jumping into the adventure of a book, characters they will carry with them forever, stories to regale you with, and a “published” version of their work

Camp Cursive

This course introduces and polishes cursive skills with engaging and interesting approaches, through hands-on activities. Students who desire to develop an individual handwriting style that is clear and attractive will be motivated to do so through applications to real-life writing tasks. Students will complete this course with cursive they will be proud to use!

Come make slime with us Each day we will test out a new recipe We will watch a video on how the slime of the day is made then students will be in charge of measuring out their ingredients After our slime comes together, we will play together Kids will bring home their fresh batch of slime every day

Lego Club

Come build Legos with us Kids will explore their imaginations and build new creations with new friends. Every day, we will watch a video on a new topic for inspiration (castles, vehicles, space ships, mansions). Then, we will work together to build from that category. We will also have free build time and time to work on small Lego sets that we provide.

Let's Get Crafty

Do you love being creative? Want to learn new and fun ways to craft? If so, come join this class! Each day will bring a new and exciting crafting experience We will be exploring tie-dye projects, painting on canvasses, making friendship bracelets, and a popsicle stick craft

Kitchen Science

This course will allow students to discover the world of science around them by taking everyday kitchen and household items and ingredients to create awesome science discoveries (and tasty treats!) Students will discover their "inner scientist" through the activities and experiments they will conduct in this course.

Come show off your skills, or come to learn a new game We will practice learning four yard games (beanbag toss, washers, ladder ball, bocce ball) on Monday. Then, throughout the rest of the week kids will rotate through all 4 stations (30 min/station/day) playing a new opponent in a tournament format.

Stretch your body and mind even further and build on the skills you already have! Even if students didn’t join our first class, they will enjoy developing their skills both on and off the mat as they participate in activities connecting their inner worlds to the outer world. They will experience the physical benefits of the practice by learning a new flow sequence and breathing techniques. Then they will explore the mental and emotional benefits through lessons and activities focused on living a balanced life, overcoming obstacles, building confidence, and self-reflection. Join our club to learn even more about your mind and body!

Fishing is Forever

This course will go through all levels of fishing from novice to experienced, as well as all interest levels from weekend fun to college and professional opportunities. We will work on life lessons through fishing, opportunities that the sport creates, as well as safety There will be hands-on as well as classroom instruction

Forensic Anthropology

The human skeleton is the foundation of the human body. It is a record of the way we live our lives and can yield information about injuries we've had, sports we've participated in, our height and health, and sometimes even our ethnic background

Forensic Anthropology takes this information to help identify skeletal remains This can be used in missing person cases, criminal investigations, and even in the study of past human lives. Come learn about what our bones know and how to interpret what they are telling us from a practicing bioarchaeologist

Soccer Fun and Skills

We will motivate students to learn and love the beautiful game of soccer (futbol) The class will provide analysis of elite level players, formations, and team strategies We will watch MLS, Premier League, and World Cup matches to breakdown how to become an intelligent soccer player. The students will apply what they have learned in class on the soccer field by practicing skill moves, corner kicks, penalty kicks, etc This class will be very interactive and fun!
