Pram Centre all your babies needs
Excitement, anticipation, joy – a mix of emotions from the moment you find out that you are having a baby. You will find yourself with a long ‘To Do’ list – when it comes to ‘The Pram’ and ‘The Baby Stuff ’ you enter into a whole new level of confusion – Travel Systems, 3-in1’s, Changing Stations, Grobags and lots more!! Relax, help is at hand. A visit to The Pram Centre on Great James Street is a must. Established 15 years ago, by local mum and in-store consultant, Aoibheann Casey, The Pram Centre has built up a solid reputation as the leading Pram and Nursery specialist in the North West and beyond. The Pram Centre stocks the most extensive range of products including Prams, Cots, Car Seats, Nursery Furniture, Feeding Equipment and complimentary accessories. Aoibheann says “We stock all of the essentials for your new arrival and also stock a number of exclusive product ranges for a more luxurious gift or treat, such as a framed personalised imprint of your baby’s hands and feet.” The staff are fully trained, with extensive product knowledge. They are always on hand to offer full product demonstrations and to make sure that your specific needs are fully met.
It’s simple – a deposit ensures that the goods that you want are ordered and reserved. You can make payments whenever you wish and we can keep everything until your baby arrives. Make a Wish List Why not make a wish list – it’s just like a wedding list. Mum selects a range of items that she would really like – e.g. Steriliser, Bounce Chair, Blankets, Car Seat and much more. Then friends and family can buy from this list or pay towards an item on the list. This is the ultimate solution in gift buying – mum gets what she really wants and it is stress free shopping for everyone! The Pram Centre Gift Vouchers are another failsafe baby present. So come and visit us at The Pram Centre on Great James Street – you will not be disappointed. Be in awe of the extensive range that we have to offer, but be assured our excellent staff will be on hand to guide you through this exciting time.
Baby Club The Baby Club is a convenient and flexible way to get organised.

GIRLS NIGHT IN! As more people are staying in, house parties are proving a very popular and functional way to shop! Most women purchase their clothes in boutiques and on the high street and a growing number surf the web but one of the fastest-growing methods of shopping is party plan. This is where a trained consultant arrives at the customers home, by invitation and presents a fashion collection to a group of the homeowner’s friends. Apart from a fun night in with friends, the hostess bags a commission based on the total sales, the friends get honest advice and have the opportunity to share ideas and try on styles they might otherwise overlook. One of the great advantages of having this boutique presentation in your home is that you save time and effort searching for all the pieces that compliment your individual style. Just imagine the luxury of kicking off your heels, sitting back on your own couch, surrounded by girl friends and having the shop come to you! Every woman has suffered the agony of aching feet after a day on the high street! Home shopping is pure luxury and the service is FREE! Friendtex is the largest company in Northern Europe, selling smart fashionable clothes at home parties, a sales method that is becoming more popular by the day, not only due to high quality and keen prices but also to the homelike comfort and personal service. If you would like view the complete collection visit www.friendtex.com To host one of these special evenings, please call Stella on 087 226 2820

Jump to it It’s the all-in-one that’s all over the high street. Time to leap on the jumpsuit trend. They keep turning up, like the fashion equivalent of a bad penny that we’ve been trying to ignore. But there’s just no getting away from jumpsuits this spring. After a couple of seasons of hovering on the edges of acceptable, these retro all-in-ones have finally leapt firmly onto the radar. So, what’s taken this contentious piece of clobber from style wasteland to wardrobe must-have? Basically, this time round there’s a cut, colour or style that should suit everyone. Added to the fact that they’re about one of the easiest outfits to throw on – packing maximum fashion cred for minimum effort – and that’s pretty hard to resist. Now, you could go down the slinky 70s disco route for your jumpsuit kicks – in which case, head to Marks & Spencer for this heavenly halter-neck (£39.50) or pick up Primark’s Limited Edition embroidered number (£24). In this case, keep everything else as modern and minimalist as possible to avoid any fancy dress faux-pas. Also on the retro theme, pretty floral patterns are big in jumpsuit world – People Tree’s Laura Ashley print suit (£85) is particularly cute, while Great Plains adds a modern flavour with its tapered leg look (£66). For a hippy twist, try Internacionale (£19.99) or Matthew Williamson’s Butterfly at Debenhams for funky flared options. The really great thing about jumpsuits this season, though, is that they have been given some thoroughly modern makeovers. Luxe at Warehouse (£160) has an almost futuristic take on the trend with its stark white number, Next goes down the safari route (£55), Republic goes for drapes and tapered trousers (£26.99), while A|Wear mixes retro prints with bang up to date details (£40). But the best bit? A jumpsuit is a statement in itself, so there’s no need for over-accessorising. A simple pair of wedges (Schuh £85 or Internacionale £22.99) or tasselled heels will do nicely (Office £85). Time to jump on the jumpsuit bandwagon.

* You have to list down the elements you want in your garden. This will help you organize your thoughts. You can list down the different kinds of flowers and plants that you want to be planted on your garden. Also, it’s good to note if you want the element of water in your garden –be it a fountain, a pond, or a waterfalls. * One suggestion is to choose flowers and plants that grow in different season so that your garden won’t lose its life.
* Set out a plan for your garden. It’s like a floor plan for your garden, and this will get you an idea what will your garden look like. * For your water design, you can get ideas by visiting sites online or garden shops. There are a lot of water features to choose from, there are easy to install water fountains that you can get cheaply. * Add more accents to your garden. Furniture like benches, coffee tables, and swings are a good way to decorate your garden. There are a lot of styles available. This will not only make your garden a lot beautiful, this will also provide a comfortable ambiance for your garden –a perfect place for your family to retreat. * Another suggestion is to add drama to you garden using light. Place light to different spots of your garden. Use different kinds and designs of light. Garden candle lanterns are also cool most especially at night. * To make your garden more beautiful, you can paint our garden pots with bight colors. Water proof paints are recommended for this. After you’ve set it up, I assure that you will feel rewarded for bringing life and beauty to your garden.

Tropical World at Alcorn’s Flower and Garden Centre, opening 4th April 2011, is a new and innovative idea designed to catch the imagination of everyone who visits.
I
t combines a walk through beautiful, tropical butterflies in free flight around a pound and Mediterranean plants. It engrosses and educates as you
are guided through the reptile area with bearded dragons, tortoises, chinchillas, geckos and many more, with an argentine tegu being the star attraction. Follow through to the aviaries, where you might think you’re in a jungle. See and hear the multicoloured tropical birds including conures, rosellas, cockatiels and turacos. Step outside to the picnic area to see “Snowy” the Owl, “Rickie” the raccoon, as well as the view over the Swilly and the education room consists of DVDs, information on recycling, water preservation, endangered animals, as well as other environmental issues. When asked where the inspiration for Tropical World came from, the Alcorn family told us that through many years of involvement with flowers, plants, the local community, young people, pets and
environmental issues, the seeds of a dream were sown for what we now know as Tropical World. The completion of Tropical World is hopefully a major boost, not only to the Garden Centre but to the town, local tourism and accommodation providers as well. It provides schools and youth groups with ease access to a high quality, educational but fun facility. The opening of Tropical World has provided three new positions and consolidated those of the existing staff, at a time when multiple chains are leaving the area and despite these recessionary times, the Alcorn family and staff are confident that the support of their many loyal customers, who have spurred them on with this project, will see that it is a huge success and becomes an iconic place, to visit for young and old alike.
Your best day out this summer!

Ten years ago I wouldn’t have been asked to write this article. Five years ago it might have been read by a few gardening enthusiasts.
Today, everyone wants to know how to grow their own food. At the start of the millennium, allotments were seen as places for retired people to potter about in. Now, city & town councils all over Britain and Ireland are reporting waiting lists of young families all looking for a place to grow their own vegetables. Recently the sounds of the countryside have begun to

include hens squawking and ducks quacking, just like it was long ago, so it’s not just in the city that things are changing, it’s happening all over. So what is causing this huge change of heart?
There are several reasons why this is happening now. With all the hype about climate change and greenhouse gas, people are becoming more aware that buying food from the other side of the world that we can grow here ourselves might not be the right thing to do. Then there’s all these ‘reality’ gardening shows that make it all look very fashionable and easy!
Who wouldn’t want Hugh Fearnley Wittingstall’s life?
Jimmy Doherty’s ‘food factory’ show and others are showing us that we don’t know half of what goes into the food we are buying. These programmes are a long way removed from the Gardening and cooking shows of the 70’s & 80’s, where the cutting edge was only on the pruning shears or the chopping board. Another reason for the current interest is the recession. Many people who have lost their jobs are spending more time in the garden if they have one, and because there’s less money coming in, it makes sense to try to grow some food for the family. Lots of people say to me “I’d love to grow some veg but I have no room in my garden” My answer to that is usually “if you have any space at all, you have room to grow food” People often grow herbs and salad veg in pots and window
boxes. Lettuce and rocket are quick and easy to grow and herbs usually grow better in a pot near your kitchen where you can look after them and crop them quickly while you’re cooking. Digging up part of your lawn to grow some carrots and potatoes serves two purposes – you get free food AND free time, because you have less grass to cut! In many East European countries people have their veg garden in front of their houses. Here this is almost unthinkable. Veg on the lawn! But with careful planning, vegetables can look very impressive growing, and you get to eat them afterwards! Nowadays there is a tendency to grow vegetables in raised beds. This sounds a bit technical but in reality all you need is three long boards from your local reclamation yard or builder’s yard, cut one in half, make a rectangle on your lawn, fill it with some topsoil and manure or compost, and off you go! Some gardeners recommend that you line the bottom with cardboard to suppress weeds but, since you are taking away their light by filling the bed with soil, this is not absolutely necessary. The secret to growing organically is looking after your soil, not your crops. If the soil is healthy and contains lots of humus (broken down plant material i.e. compost/ manure) your crops will get what they need to grow well. Adding compost or ‘mulching’ around established plants also suppresses weeds and feeds the soil for the following year. Using chemical fertilisers only feeds the plants so the soil eventually gets worn out. Keeping the soil disease free is
Gardening
It is best to start with four or five equal sized beds. Most plants fall into five different groups.
The most common rotation involves these four:
also very important. This is done by not growing the same crop in the same place every year. By moving the crop you are breaking the cycle of disease, and each plant has different effects on the soil too, so your soil won’t have a buildup of any one thing that might cause problems. This means you don’t have to spray on pesticide to kill the bugs, your soil will do it for you. This practice is called Crop Rotation and the most common rotation used is one that takes four years to go through the complete cycle.
In group 1 we have potatoes. These break up any lumps in the soil and, because there is so much leaf
growth, weeds are suppressed once the spuds are growing well. Use plenty manure. In group 2 legumes are grown. These are beans, peas, and clovers. All these crops
add nitrogen to the soil, and it will still be there for next year’s crop. In group 3 we have the brassicas. They will benefit from the higher nitrogen levels after the legumes and if you mulch around them as they grow, your soil will be ready for your roots crops the following year. Group 4 brings you to the end of the rotation and this is where the carrots and parsnips go. They don’t like fresh manure so the mulching you did the year before is all they need. Next year your potatoes go in the bed the carrots came out of. Your legumes follow the spuds, brassicas follow legumes and so on. It is best to have the four different types growing in different beds, then move them along each year. I mentioned five groups. The other important one is the onion family which includes scallions and garlic. These can be grown in the same bed as the legumes since neither takes up a lot of space. Plants like lettuce, beetroot and spinach can go anywhere there is space in your beds. There is no particular rotation for them. So, now it’s time to get growing!

Most of the fashion trends that change with season often transform into ideas for interior décor. But did you ever create your own design for your home? Clean Spring home makeover will be incomplete without cleaning. But don’t worry it doesn’t have to be a tedious job. Change drapes If you have velvet drapes or a heavy fabric sofa, spring is the perfect time to change them into lighter looking alternatives. You can eliminate bold colored drapes with lighter shades. Also change the slip covers of sofa or couch to floral or pale tones. Change furnishings Your home furnishings are vital to get the desired look and feel of spring. Even in your bedroom, you can use linens with floral designs and light shades that bring spring to your private room. Decorate with green plants and flowers
If you have wonderful flowering plants in your garden, you can decorate your home with flowers. You can even use plants to decorate corners of your house. Create an inviting front yard In spring season often you want to spend time in the deck or porch. Create the look with wonderful accessories, chairs, hanging plants, etc. Re-accessorize the shelves Even shelves of your living space need a makeover so, clean the dust of fall and replace the objects in the display with new ones. Clean fireplaces Spring is the perfect time to sweep out the ashes and replace with attractive birch log arrangement, candle arrangements or even well decorated silk flower bunches. Think about exteriors Don’t restrict your home makeover ideas to the interiors. After cool winter season, home exteriors need some extra cleaning. Be sure to clean the doors and windows. If necessary, add touch-up to the exterior walls if necessary. Don’t forget your garage and tool sheds and other areas of your home that are possibly exposed to spring.

cookery
Rib Eye with Peppered Sauce Everybody makes this a difficult task of cooking a steak. It is very simple and the key thing is a good really hot pan. This recipe allows you finish a decent peppered sauce in the cooking pan while the steak rests. The pan needs to be alive and full of wonderful sounds and dancing during the cooking, you will see what I mean if you follow the recipe. If the pan is not alive throughout cooking it was not hot enough to start with. And this is where you can go wrong as the steak begins to stew instead of searing and it loses moisture resulting in a grey juice in your pan. Yes now you think dam that’s what I have experienced previous. Ok that is in the history books and now take a death breath collect your ingredients and read through the method a couple of times and away you go. People are nervous of cooking steak I am only nervous because of the price of it. No need to be nervous and when you master this you will be the envy of your friends. I do not recommend the griddle type pans that bar mark meat as they only seal the meat in the lines they create and juices and moisture escape in between. Sorry all of you that have a electric hob but gas gives more heat control and produces best results for this dish.
The pan needs to be alive and full of wonderful sounds and dancing during the cooking, you will see what I mean if you follow the recipe.
Method Preheat frying pan till very hot (at least 4 minutes) and then add a litte oil quickly followed by the steak and leave to cook on one side for 3 minutes and repeat on other side. Only when you turn the steak over season it with black pepper.
Serves: 4
Transfer pan to oven and continue to cook to whatever degree of cooking is required. While steak is in oven cooking chop onion and slice mushroom.
Ingredients 4 Ribe Eye Steaks 180g each 40ml Brandy 1 ⁄2 Chopped Onion 6 Mushrooms Sliced 150ml Cream / Crème Fraiche Drop Worchester Sauce 12 Green Peppercorns 1 Clove Garlic Freshly Ground Cracked Black pepper Brian’s Tips Heat the pan dry before adding oil. Weird but effective tip is to turn your extraction fan up full from the start. Use a thick bottomed frying pan
Remove steak from oven when required cooking degree is reached and remove steak from pan to rest to the side. Add to the pan the onions, garlic peppercorns, mushrooms and cook for 3 minutes on high heat then add the Brandy and Flame by igniting the brandy with the flame from the gas or a igniter. When the flame dies off it has burnt off the alcohol then add cream & Worchester sauce and reduce until slightly thick. Serve sauce around the steak not over it or under it as you want to keep the char almost crust you created.
Stellar is the perfect cooking pans and I have been using them for years. With their thick bottomed frying pan it gives you the temperature required to seal your steak perfectly.

Ever wondered why scientists are always claiming that there are vast regions of our brains as yet untapped. Well one of the reasons for this is the sheer neglect people have in the Western world when it comes to doing exercises for the mind. Meditation has been practised in the orient for centuries and is part of their vast culture; meditation indeed is singlehandedly responsible for the great longevity that many Oriental people seem to enjoy despite great poverty. Meditation is anything but complicated; it is a very simple and direct exercise, which anyone can do at anytime. It is not just for mystics or gurus or enlightened masters of the mind, meditation is for everyone and there is no mystery about its practice nor do you have to have special powers to begin it. Meditation conjures up mystery and fantasy and images of Oriental masters sitting below mountainous waterfalls in much reposed positions looking godly and enlightened. These images surrounding meditation tend to instil in most peoples minds a sort of ritual performed by ominous dodgy cult leaders and the like, nothing could be further from the truth! “Meditation is now used from top athletes wanting to improve their performances to doctors helping their patients, simply put “meditation is a brilliant exercise to quite the restless mind” Lack of knowledge and understanding of anything will naturally make people cautious and afraid, this is a quite normal response to the unknown.
warm rays of the sun touching your skin as it slowly rises its magnificent presence above the mountains, the sound of seabirds swirling and swaying in the background, would you say that this was an exercise, “of course not, you wouldn’t! It’s a pleasure, one that brings peace of mind and stillness admiring all that heavenly beauty; it makes you feel good and takes all your worries away. What if I said to you that you could see your life like that in every waking moment! And that all you had to do was imagine that you were at the seashore and that you would get all the benefits as if you actually were at the shore, well would you believe me? Not sure? Well here is a fact and I think it is one of the most important tenets of meditation and chi kung, “Your central nervous system cannot distinguish between a real event or an imagined event”, so if you lie down in a quite room and just imagine that you are at that shoreline, imagine you’re smelling the sea air, hearing the tranquil sounds of nature, feeling the heat of the sun warming the front of your body as you hear the swish of the waves lashing the golden sand and feeling the cool water on your feet as you gently paddle the waters edge, you will receive all the benefits to your mind/body as if you actually are doing it. So simply to meditate, all you have to do is use your imagination and take yourself away, your imaginings can be as simple or as grandiose as you want them to be, remember you are in charge, you are only limited by yourself and your own mind, but the more you practice the stronger your imagination will become and the more benefits you will get. A famous hip replacement surgeon in America always gets his patients to imagine blood flowing away from the hips just prior to surgery, and he discovered to his surprise that these patients did not suffer any of the usual blood loss during surgery and none of them needed transfusions. The power of the mind is unlimited, but with a little practice great benefits can be obtained, leading to a profound sense of peace, calm and contentment where a real inner sense of happiness and purpose resides.

This is a long standing stereotype that is maintained by men themselves at their own expense.
