AHEAD IN ANIMAL HEALTH
Monitoring Bulk-Milk for Less Lameness Menno Holzhauer Royal GD, Deventer, The Netherlands
Introduction Strong flexible claws are basis for proper functioning of locomotion and durability of dairy cows. Whether cow has healthy claws is largely determined by ration in form of energy, proteins, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. In particular biotin, and the trace minerals zinc (Zn) and manganese (Mn) play an important role in claw-horn and skin quality. Now is possible to gain insight in correct provision of biotin, Zn and Mn by monitoring bulk-milk samples of herd. These information gives farmer and the advisors insight into provision of ingredients VOOROP IN inDIERGEZONDHEID relation to claw health in herd.

Based on subscription > 1200 herds participate in a Claw Health Bulk Tank monitoring programme, whereby 4x/year (February, May, August and November) bulk milk is investigated on infection pressure of Treponema (Elisa), Biotin (Elisa), Zn (ICP-MS) and Mn (ICP-MS).
