We’re famous for our 23 miles of blue wave beaches, but if you’re looking for something else – something different and unique, we’ve got some recommendations.

WORLD AIDS MUSEUM The World AIDS Museum idea grew out of the Fort Lauderdale based group, Pozitive Attitudes, a topic driven support group for people infected or affected by HIV. Around 2007, the facilitator of this group, Steve Stagon, started creating historical HIV/AIDS exhibits as topics for discussion. Eventually, Steve began to display these exhibits at the Pride Center of South Florida as well as at Blanche Ely High School. As HIV/AIDS exhibits by

other artists had also been displayed at the Pride Center, and other members of the Pozitive Attitudes group also showed interest, the idea of a museum took hold and on September 20, 2011, the World AIDS Museum was incorporated as a nonprofit organization. Their mission today is to increase awareness and decrease the stigma of HIV/AIDS by documenting, remembering, educating, enlightening and empowering. 1201 NE 26th Street #111 Wilton Manors, FL 33305 Phone: 954-390-0550

BONNET HOUSE MUSEUM & GARDENS By the time early settler Hugh Taylor Birch purchased the Bonnet House site in 1895, the grounds had already witnessed 4,000 years of Florida history. Bonnet House’s modern history began when Birch gave the Bonnet House property as a wedding gift to his daughter Helen and her husband, Chicago artist Frederic Clay Bartlett in 1919. Upon Helen’s death, Frederic’s visits to Bonnet House became sporadic until 1931 when he married Evelyn Fortune Lilly. Together they embellished Bonnet House with the decorative elements that delight visitors to this day. Bonnet House Museum & Gardens is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. The site was listed on the National Register of Historic places in 1984 and declared a historic landmark by the City of Fort Lauderdale in 2002. 900 North Birch Road Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304 Phone: 954-563-5393 HISTORIC STRANAHAN HOUSE & MUSEUM Stranahan House is the home of Fort Lauderdale pioneers Frank and Ivy Stranahan.
