Sun, sea and fun – Flavien Neyertz knows how to ride off on an adventure. The Managing Director of Luxury Water Toys in Monaco about a perfect day on the water.

2

Flavien Neyertz, what circumstances make a perfect day on the water? A perfect day on the water is when you expe-

rience a feeling that will make your day unforgettable. I’m a real water sports enthusiast, so I get my pleasure from discovering new products, then finding and pushing my limits to explore new sensations. If I’m looking for fun on the water, which products would you suggest? It’s hard to pick up just one; nowadays there are many products out there that deserve to be tried out. I personally like board sports and the sense of freedom. I like to be able to control my speed, my direction, and my ride in order to make the most of my experience on water. I would recommend the JetSurf as a first choice for the multi-use possibilities and endless sensations it offers.

4

5

Could you describe the experience when using the JetSurf?

The JetSurf is a unique experience, and a very exclusive sensation. It’s an unusual hybrid product between water sports and motor sports. You can ride it in any water conditions, from waves to flat water, rivers, lakes, tracks and behind a boat. The JetSurf is easy to get the hang of and it gives you the freedom to choose exactly what you want to experience at any given time. How does the JetSurf work and where does the technology

fibre that has been designed by a Formula 1 engineer. Its two high-tech engines and light weight of just 15 kg keep the JetSurf running for two hours on just one tank. Its top speed is 55 km/h, but you can regulate this and limit the top speed for younger riders and beginners. Is it simple to use? We always deliver the JetSurf with personal training. This takes an hour on average, but after around 15 minutes most beginners are already standing on the board and riding around. You also don’t need any specific permit to ride the board and there is no age restriction. What are the up-and-coming trends? We are just in the process of launching new accessories that will bring about the evolution of the JetSurf: special kit designed to simply be added onto the existing product for even more new sensations.

LEONARDO FERRAGAMO

“The ClubSwan 50 is a stunning yacht that will appeal to the young and competitive, while still allowing the pleasure of cruising in the true spirit of Swan.” From the swordfish-like bowsprit to the hard chines and angular companionway, the design envelope for the ClubSwan 50 was pushed hard. The photographs show how she is a yacht that powers upwind handsomely and can really take off with a spinnaker hoisted – as seen here at the Rolex Swan Cup in the Caribbean in 2017, which was the very first time the new ClubSwan 50s had a competitive chance to fly in windy conditions. Twin rudders allow her to really be pushed when sailing off the wind, hence the use of flared quarter sections to create a hiking platform for the crew to help keep the bow up. Importantly, however, the ClubSwan 50 is not too hot for owner-drivers to handle. And the aggressive race boat looks of the exterior disguise a reassuringly classy yet contemporary interior. The leather and teak masks the carbon fibre beneath, while the open layout suits racing.

MAGIC IN THE CROWDS

WHERE OLD MEETS NEW

From the Marina Santelena it is just a few minutes’ walk to the Piazza San Marco. No matter how big the hoards of tourists, the triangle between St. Mark’s Basilica, the Campanile and Doge’s Palace retains all of its magic. Spend precious time wandering the streets of San Polo and Santa Croce, enjoying some delicious cicheti snacks from the Osteria All’Arco. You still need a travel diary? There are especially beautiful ones made from Venetian paper available at Paolo Olbi, close to the Cà Foscari Bridge. Perhaps then a bellini in Harry’s Bar – then it’s back on board.

Dating back to 1700, the palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian is so large that it is a designated World Heritage Site. At the same time, it houses dozens of chic bars, restaurants and shops. The ancient world and the modern world form a fascinating urban mix in Split. And once again it is the seafront promenade, Riva, where the Mediterranean flair of this town can best be experienced.

Delightful captain’s cottages dating from the 19th century sit alongside the idyllic natural harbour in the little town and eponymous island in the Bay of Kvarner. The ACI Marina Korcula looks out towards the mighty city walls with St Mark’s Cathedral towering above. Korcula was ruled by Venice from the beginning of the 15th century to the end of the 18th century. The famous adventurer Marco Polo is said to have been born here. There is no evidence of this, but that makes exploring the streets and alleyways in search of his spirit no less exciting. 10

Dubrovnik

MUCH-ADMIRED BEAUTY

Dubrovnik is known as Croatia’s top travel destination for good reason. The walk on the Medieval city walls and the views of the Old City, a World Heritage Site, are more than worth the journey here. The Hotel Excelsior has been epitomising Dubrovnik’s hospitality since 1913. Renovated from the ground up, the five stars of this establishment now shine resplendently once again. After a day exposed to the wind and waves of the Adriatic, there is nothing better than resting one’s head in this luxury haven.

YACHTING ADVICE

Some Charter Know-How A yacht charter whisks you away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life into an oasis of luxury and adventure. Bespoke is the word to describe a yacht charter as it is all about you and your dreams coming true. Dreams that can be changed at your every whim. WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO BOOK? A n

early booking is always best to make sure you have a good choice of yachts, as many are reserved far in advance by repeat clients from year to year, especially during high season. By booking early you will also catch your crew at its freshest. June and September in the Mediterranean, November or late March in the Caribbean. While your crew will always be superb, this insider tip means you will get to benefit from their services when they are well rested and excited about the new season. If your dates are flexible try and avoid the busy July/August season and book in June or September in the Med. You will also make considerable savings by booking off season. Conditions are still excellent and the crowds are fewer. If you do have to book in the high season then we suggest you do this well ahead of time and also book your ports and any of the most popular restaurants you wish to dine in, as they quickly get fully booked during this busiest time of the year.

WHAT TIPS DO YOU HAVE FOR PLANNING A YACHT CHARTER? Carefully planning your itinerary along with your broker and yacht captain is a must. The choice and speed of your yacht is essential when deciding how far to travel and how long to cruise for. It is advisable not to cruise for more than four to six hours a day in order for you to enjoy your trip and not overextend the crew or spend too much time underway for your guests. This will leave you plenty of time to enjoy the water toys and other activities at anchor, and visit the various destinations and ports.

HOW DO I FIND A SUITABLE YACHT? It is advisable to consider the different types of yachts available, in relation to the nature and make-up of your party. Each yacht is completely unique with its own individual crew, who are normally multinational and multilingual, so matching your nationality with the

crew will ensure that you feel at home right away. Your broker will help you assess what is best suited to you as they visit each and every yacht, so it is very important to tell them as much as possible about precisely what you and your guests desire and require. Whatever you are looking for, there is the perfect yacht out there waiting for you. Work with our knowledgeable charter brokers to find the right yacht for you. Communication with your broker is the key to a successful charter, as with your captain and chef when on board. We all work hard to make your dreams come true so please do not hesitate to share them! WHAT ABOUT GOOD COMPANY ON BOARD? It

is important to choose people as guests who you really want to spend quality time with. Sharing unforgettable moments at sea is a bonding experience. Make sure you select your guests wisely and surround yourself with the company worthy of the wonderful memories you are about to create together. WHAT EXTRAS WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?

Your crew and broker can organise interesting land excursions for you along the way, from personalised visits to museums, to a lunch or dinner prepared in the kitchen of a Michelin star chef. A gourmet experience prepared in an olive grove or an extraordinary barbecue on a deserted beach. All organised by your crew, under the stars, to be topped by a firework display to marvel your guests. We can also arrange for renowned entertainers to come aboard for your special events. WHAT OTHER THINGS SHOULD I CONSIDER?

NICKIE VINCENT, ENGEL & VÖLKERS YACHTING FRENCH RIVIERA With more than 30 years of experience in all aspects of yachting, Nickie will make sure you enjoy the most unforgettable holiday of your life.

Choose your yacht to suit your party and itinerary – as some have more deck space than others, some are classical and others ultra-modern. The faster yachts also tend to have a higher fuel consumption than slower yachts and new Hybrid yachts. This will impact greatly on your costs.
