General Information Registration begins on Monday, September 30, 2013

All activities will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Most of our activities have limited enrollment, so register early! There are 2 easy ways for you to enroll: 1.

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express payments. You may also pay by check or money order. Cash not accepted.

Refund Policy

No refunds or credits will be granted within 5 days prior to a program draft or session start date. If you request a refund at least 5 days before the program begins, you have two options: (1) Receive an immediate credit for the full amount; or (2) Receive a refund, minus a 25% administration fee. In addition, a credit may be issued in the event an activity cannot be completed due to a documented medical problem. Online registration convenience fees are non-refundable.

Inclement Weather/ Rain out Policy Cancellations due to weather on weeknights will generally not be made until 4 p.m. We will make every reasonable effort to contact head coaches/team managers with cancellation information and coaches/team managers will contact parents/players.

Volunteer Coaches Needed! Program Coordinator – Trevor Ross Email: tross@oconee.ga.us We are looking for a few good coaches! Volunteers are needed to coach in our youth basketball program. Our programs focus on the FUNdamentals of the game. Coaches are required to: *Attend and complete an NYSCA certification class *Complete an application *Submit an original copy of the Criminal History Consent form *Provide a copy of your valid driver’s license NYSCA certification classes will be held on October 30 and November 6 at 6:15 p.m. at Oconee Veterans Park. Youth Programs Age Control Date: September 1, 2013 Start Smart Basketball

Parents work with their child to develop motor skills necessary to participate in league basketball by utilizing positive reinforcement and fun activities. Mighty Mite Rockers Basketball

Program Coordinator – Trevor Ross Email: tross@oconee.ga.us A fun, 8 week instructional class that develops basketball skills for game play for children age 5 – 6 years. Class sizes are limited to 32 per session. Ages: 5-6 Session I: December 7 – February 8 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Session II: December 7 – February 8 from 10:45 – 11:45 a.m. Days: Saturdays Location: Herman C. Michael Park Fee: $55 No class on December 28.


Pre-Season Basketball Clinics for Middle Schoolers Program Coordinator – Tony Lathrup Email: tlathrup@oconee.ga.us Excellent opportunity for boys or girls to sharpen their basketball skills prior to school tryouts or the upcoming season. Former UGA and NBA player Carlos Strong will lead these intensive workouts. Age: 6th – 8th grades Sessions: October 6, 13, 20 and 27 Days: Sundays Times: 2:30 – 5 p.m. Location: Herman C. Basketball Academy

Program Coordinator: Tony Lathrup Email: tlathrup@oconee.ga.us The Basketball Academy will provide advanced individual basketball training without travel outside the county. Players will receive higher level instruction by Carlos Strong, former UGA and NBA player, in a fun and challenging environment. Interested youth may still register for the recreational basketball league for team competition. Age: 10 - 15 Session Dates: December 8, 2013 – February 9, 2014 Days: Sundays Times: 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. Location: Herman C. Michael Park Fee: $100 includes t-shirt and ball. No sessions on December 22, December 29 or January 26

O.S.B.L - Oconee Spirit Basketball League Program Coordinator: Deanna Shaw Email: dshaw@oconee.ga.us The Oconee Spirit Basketball League is a recreational basketball program designed to allow children, adolescents, and young adults with intellectual disabilities to learn the fundamentals of basketball while building coordination, social skills and teamwork with peer players. Age: 6 - 24 Session Dates: December 8, 2013 – February 9, 2014 Days: Tuesdays Times: 6:15 – 7:15 p.m. Location: Herman C. Michael Park Fee: $55

Youth Basketball Leagues

Program Coordinator – Tony Lathrup Email: tlathrup@oconee.ga.us Dribble, pass and shoot the hoop in our youth basketball program. Participants learn fundamentals, improve skills and participate in game play. Leagues are available for boys and girls. Team practices begin Saturday, November 16. Parents should hear from a coach by November 13 with specific team information. Registration conducted through November 1 or until full. Fee: $75. Leagues: Age on September 1, 2013: Mites 7- 8 Pee Wee 9-10 Midget 11-12 Junior Boys 13-14 Junior Girls 13-15 Request for team placement will not be considered unless it is for a sibling.

Intramural High School Basketball League

Program Coordinator – Deanna Shaw Email: dshaw@oconee.ga.us Recruit your friends and PLAY! Form your own team to participate in this fun, recreational league. Only team entries accepted. Players must attend high school in Oconee County to participate. Games conducted at park and/or school facilities on weekday evenings. Games begin in December 2013. Rosters must be submitted no later than Thursday, November 14. Fee: $540 per team due by November 8. Roster Guidelines: Minimum of 7 players, maximum of 10 players. Deadline for roster changes January 17, 2014. Players must have an adult coach/sponsor, 21 years or older who will be in attendance at all games and is responsible for team conduct. Failure of the adult sponsor to attend a game will result in forfeiture of game. Players and coaches must sign code of conduct form in order to be eligible to participate. Players must attend school in Oconee County. Proof may be required. Mandatory Meeting A mandatory coach/team manager meeting will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 6 p.m. at Oconee Veterans Park in the Community Center. League rules distributed and discussed at meeting.

Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament

Program Coordinator: Drew Torok Email: dtorok@oconee.ga.us The 2nd Annual Coaches vs. Cancer 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament benefits the American Cancer Society. All players must register through Oconee County Parks and Recreation Department. Minors must have a signed parent consent form. Deadline to register is Monday, January 20.

Date: Sunday, January 26, 2014 Times: 1 – 7 p.m. Fee: $50 per team or $40 per team if your team registers before 1/10/2014 Teams: 3-4 Players Tournament: Pool play tournament with 3 game minimum Prizes: T-shirts for everyone and chances to win prizes, including a chance to win YOUR PIE Pizza for a year!

NEW Core Soccer Winter Skills Camp

Core Soccer’s two day winter skills camp offers a unique, dynamic soccer environment in which players master the mental, physical and technical skills of the game. Our precise step-by-step teaching method includes demonstrations, explanations and participation. Dates: Thursday, January 2 and Friday, January 3 U8 – U10 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. U10 – U12 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Fee: $75 includes camp t-shirt and snack. Limited space available.

The R.E.C. After School Program Get out of school and into the park where we strive to provide Recreation for Every Child! We offer the best after school location; keeping your child actively engaged in a variety of fun activities through 6 p.m. Transportation is provided immediately afterschool to the Herman C. Michael Park. Daily snack is also provided. The program is open to all Kindergarten through 5th grade Oconee County residents. Please call (706) 769-3966 for space availability. Fee: $75 per week per child. Teen Extreme

Get out of school and into the park where we take after school to the Extreme! Oconee County teens, 6th - 8th grade, participate in after school activities such as sports skills, homework assistance, games, and more. The program is held at Oconee Veterans Park and keeps your teen actively engaged during the hours immediately after school through 6:30 p.m. Transportation is provided from Oconee County public middle schools to the park! Fee: $75 per week per child.

All Day Camps

All day camps are offered to all Oconee County students on select days when school is not in session. Camp is open from 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. Snacks are provided but students must bring a sack lunch. The day is filled with activities and games to keep the participants engaged. Contact Jessica Tiller for information on registering. All Day Camps will be offered this fall on the following dates: October 11, 14 • November 25-27 • December 20 • February 17-18 All Day Camps must have a minimum of 15 participants enrolled. Fee: $30 per day, per participant

Home School P. E.

Come stretch and tone with Sandy Bishop at the Oconee Veterans Park Community Center gym. Conducted Tuesday and Thursday 9 – 10 a.m. throughout the school year, beginning January 7. FREE!

Yoga

Program Coordinator –Whitney England Email: wengland@oconee.ga.us Celia Brooks, Certified Yoga Teacher Participants should provide their own yoga mat and 1 – 2 firm blankets. Hatha Yoga – A mind/body practice of relaxation and rejuvenation using awareness, breath and movement to bring balance to the systems of the body. Yoga helps to increase flexibility and tone muscles while decreasing tension and relieving stress. This is a perfect class for beginners as well as those with some experience in yoga. Walking Trails

All of our parks have walking trails for everyone to enjoy. Herman C. Michael, Bogart Sports Complex and the Oconee Veterans Park have paved walking paths. Trails at Heritage Park are open for seasoned hikers, mountain bike riders and/or horseback riders. Check our website for trail maps.

Picnic Shelters

Three shelters are available to rent for your next party or event! Locations for the shelters are Herman C. Michael Park, Oconee Veterans Park and Bogart Sports Complex. Call (706) 769-3965 to request rental information and schedule your event. Check out our smaller picnic shelters at Oconee Veterans Park that are available on a first come, first serve basis!

Indoor Track and Gymnasium

The indoor track and gymnasium at Oconee Veterans Park Community Center requires a onetime membership fee for use. Please check our website for the current open gymnasium calendar or call the Open Gymnasium Hotline at 706-769-3970. Our fitness center located in the Community Center at Oconee Veterans Park features a wide array of state of the art cardiovascular and weight equipment including single and multi-station trainers. We offer FREE Wifi in our Fitness Center. Fitness memberships are required for the exercise facility. Memberships are available for purchase at the Community Center front desk or online. Fitness Memberships: $40 per person, per quarter or $120 per person, per year Hours: Monday – Friday 7 a.m. – 9 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Sunday 1 - 9 p.m.

The large open air arena at Heritage Park was created with agricultural and special events in mind. The feeder barn has thirty-one stalls and a small show arena. There are separate wash racks for animal shows, rodeos and other large events. The park is conveniently located in Farmington on Highway 441, seven miles south of downtown Watkinsville and ten miles north of downtown Madison.
