A rare attraction to the South, get up close and personal to fascinating Clydesdales. Ride the horses, take a trail ride, and tour the 220-acre Classic City Clydesdales farm in Bishop.

Elder Mill Covered Bridge

The 1897 covered bridge is one of Georgia’s 13 covered bridges that carries traffic, and the only covered bridge on Georgia’s Antebellum Trail. The bridge was named one of the South’s beautiful covered bridges by Garden & Gun Magazine.

Parks & Recreation In the many parks that occupy Oconee County, there are several miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails available to the public. Heritage Park’s 364 acres provide 2.5 miles of walking trails, 4.5 miles of equestrian trails, and 9.5 miles of mountain biking trails. Also navigate the six-acre greenspace of Watkinsville Woods or walk along the shoals of Harris Shoals Park in Downtown Watkinsville. In addition to trails, get active at the softball and soccer fields and basketball and tennis courts at Oconee Veterans Park and Herman C. Michael Park. The parks also host softball, cycling, and ultimate frisbee tournaments and events throughout the year. Oconee’s two golf courses -- Lane Creek Golf and Jennings Mills Golf -- also invite you to practice your swing on their 18-hole courses. All parks are dog-friendly.

THE ART OF OUR Heritage 20 Eagle Tavern Museum, 1801

26 N Main Street, Watkinsville The historic Eagle Tavern was built near 1801 and still remains in its original location. It was a stagecoach-style trading post, in which people from across the South visited for lodging, food and drink.

2 Ashford Manor Bed & Breakfast, 1893

4 Harden Hill Road, Watkinsville The history of Ashford Manor dates back to the mid-1800s when William and Louisa Booth Ashford raised their family on the property. In 1893, Louisa and William’s son, A.W. Ashford built the grand Victorian that serves as the main house for Ashford Manor Bed & Breakfast today.

21 Ashford Memorial Methodist Church, 1893

1 N Main Street, Watkinsville This building is the fourth site that the Methodist congregations have used in Watkinsville. This building of Gothic architecture was given by A.W. Ashford, his brothers, two uncles Thomas and Robert Booth, and others as a memorial to the mother of the Ashford men, Louisa Booth Ashford.

6 OCAF Center & Rocket Hall, 1902

34 School Street, Watkinsville In the early 1900s, the Oconee County School was a two-story schoolhouse. The building was added on to significantly in the early 1910s and again in the early 1920s. The majority of the building burned in 1954, and only the later additions remain. Rocket Hall, a neighboring gymnasium, was built in 1933. Today these two buildings are on the campus of the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation (OCAF) .

24 Bogart Historical Agricultural Center, 1930 s

141 E Thompson Street, Bogart Originally constructed in the late 1930s as the agriculture and home-economics departments of Bogart High School, the building now showcases the agricultural history of Bogart.

22 The Farmington Depot, 1889

1001 Salem Road, Watkinsville The Depot in Farmington, GA is the last remaining depot on the rail line north of Madison, GA. Land was purchased in 1893 for the rail line, which began operating at the turn of the century. The rail line was primarily used for agricultural transport. The depot was closed in the mid-1900s. Today it is home to Farmington Depot Antiques.

23 Elder Mill Covered Bridge, 1897

Elder Mill Road, Watkinsville The Elder Mill Covered Bridge was built by Nathaniel Richardson in 1897. Now located off of Highway 15 on Elder Mill Road, the Elder Mill Covered Bridge once connected Athens and Watkinsville, and sat above Calls Creek. The bridge was moved in 1924 to provide access to the Elder Mill. Today the Elder Mill Covered Bridge sits above Rose Creek, and still carries traffic.

Piccadilly Farm’s Hellebore Days is held during the first weekend in March. The event celebrates the Hellebore flower, and includes tours of the farm’s Hellebore trail and gardens.

An Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation’s (OCAF) event, Stein & Stem showcases local culinary talent, wineries, breweries, and bottle shops; and includes live music and artist demonstrations.

The Annual Garden Tour showcases some of the beautiful public and private gardens in the community.

The Oconee Chamber Fall Festival is held the third Saturday in October, and is a premier arts and crafts festival also featuring food and activity vendors.
