Let us image a place that encompasses the past, the present and, most likely, a rich future. And this richness is not necessarily made of material things, but rather it lies within the local people, those who have continuously contributed to the enrichment and the progress of the city lying on the banks of river Crișul Repede and who have always been welcoming, willing to help, and with a sense of humour. Given that you already walked through the Civic Centre, the Unirii Square, the streets that pump life into the city centre and that house historical buildings, museums, schools and many other places worth seeing which are dedicated to all visitors and locals of Oradea, it may be possible that you have already been convinced by the truth of the statement above. And in order to take full advantage of the time you spend in Oradea, of the history of the place, of the events taking place on a daily basis, and of what you can find in the city and around it, you just might need to look for accommodation, as a single day is not enough for you to do all of the above. Consequently, in the following pages you are invited to discover a variety of possibilities and places where you can spend the night, hotels, hostels, aparthotels, B&Bs… We hope that the information offered about a few of the places offering accommodation included in the pages of this City Guide will be useful to you. Moreover, if you haven’t already done some research regarding this, we hereby inform you that the traditional cuisine is best suitable for exposing your taste buds to some of the most delicious and nutritious dishes. Naturally, for those who do not want to experience new tastes, there a large variety of dishes from the international cuisine. When you leaf through this issue, you will encounter some of our gastronomical recommendations. makes available for us activities and places to visit for all tastes and sizes, from historical landmarks such as the Vulturul Negru (Black Eagle) Palace, the Baroque Palace, the Justice Palace and many others, museums such as the Aurel Lazăr Memorial Museum, Iosif Vulcan Memorial Museum, Ady Endre Memorial Museum, the Military Museum, parks, churches, the Oradea Citadel, the Unirii (Union) Square, Queen Mary Theatre, the State Philharmonic, and the list can go on and on. It is worth remembering that the city houses a great number of buildings built in the Secession style, all of them representing dreams that came true, told or untold stories of famous personalities belonging to the cultural scene from Oradea, Romania or even from abroad. Moving on from what we can see and do in the city, we should also mention what lies two steps away from Oradea. We encourage you to travel through the city’s neighbouring areas in order to discover its green borders, covered in forests, the Băile Felix resort, the crater from Betfia, the small wooden churches, the Citadels and the Apuseni Mountains that are hiding, among forests and glades, numerous caves, mountain paths, birds-eye-view points and landscapes that are always unique. Romania’s 2011 green capital, which, according to statistics, offers 25 sqm of green space for each resident, welcomes tourists with wide open arms, encouraging them to discover Oradea and its surroundings both from an aesthetic point of view as well as and especially from a historical, cultural and artistic one. Having written that, we hope you will spend some quality time in Oradea, you will enjoy the most pleasant experiences and you will also come back on a different occasion. It is the most beautiful time of the year, and Oradea - from the children to those who enjoy the second youth - enjoys the pleasant summer days filled with the flavor of the holiday. Even if we are one step closer to the end of summer days and holiday, Oradea does not disappoint us and proposes a series of events to make these two months memorable. Oradea could be called the heart of Art Nouveau in Romania. Numerous historical buildings which decorate our city proudly bear this architectural style. Next, we take a look at the most beautiful Art Nouveau buildings in Oradea, giving us a moment to appreciate them at their true value.

Casa Darvas – La Roche
Casa Darvas - La Roche
Gândită de către arhitecții Vágó László și József și ridicată între 1909 – 1912, Casa Darvas – La Roche este încă o bijuterie a Art Nouveau-ului orădean, cu influențe secessioniste. Găsim clădirea pe Strada Iosif Vulcan, numărul 11. Casa Darvas prezintă ornamente foarte expresive, dar totuși simple și echilibrate, îmbinate cu stil. Vitraliile se inspiră din lumea vegetală și florală și îmbină culori precum albastru, verde, oliv, ocru și crem, cu nuanțe de mov și de gri.
Designed by architects Vágó László and József and built between 1909 and 1912, House Darvas - La Roche is still a jewel of Art Nouveau, with secessionist influences. We find the building on Iosif Vulcan Street, number 11. House Darvas features highly expressive but yet simple and balanced ornaments combined with style. Stained glass is inspired by the floral and floral world and combines colors such as blue, green, olive, ocher and cream with hues of purple and gray.
Poynar House is another emblem of the Art Nouveau in Oradea, with elements inspired by the Secession sphere and the Italian Renaissance architecture. It is located on Nicolae Grigorescu Street number 6 and moves Ferdinand Square. The building consists of ground floor, mezzanine and two floors. The facades are adorned with flowers and bouquets of flowers on the central panels. In the past, they were richerly decorated. The door fittings and the balconies have floral, curved elements.
Casa Poynar este o altă emblemă a Art Nouveau-ului orădean, cu elemente inspirate din sfera Secession și din arhitectura renascentistă italiană. Se află pe Strada Nicolae Grigorescu numărul 6 și mobilează Piața Ferdinand. Clădirea este formată din parter, mezanin și două etaje. Fațadele sunt împodobite cu flori și buchete de flori, aflate pe panourile centrale. În trecut, acestea erau mai bogat decorate. Hotel Parc se află la intersecția străzii Republicii cu strada Aurel Lazăr. Clădirea a fost ridicată de frații Emil și Gyula Weislovich, în anul 1903, iar între 1914 – 1915, este transformată în hotel de lux cu 60 de camere, pe baza planurilor lui Czoczek Alajos. Fațada laterală are o plastică exterioară dominată de un balcon mare cu feronerie originală, cu multiple forme rafinate și pline de stil, pe un fundal cu decorație în relief cu plăcuțe de ceramică colorată.
Hotel Parc is at the intersection of the Republic Street with Aurel Lazar Street. The building was erected by the brothers Emil and Gyula Weislovich in 1903, and between 1914 and 1915 it was transformed into a luxury hotel with 60 rooms, based on the plans of Czoczek Alajos. The side facade has an exterior plastic dominated by a large balcony with original hardware, with many refined and stylish shapes, on a backdrop of embossed relief with colored ceramic tiles.
Palatul Moskovits Miksa a fost construit după planurile arhitectului Rimanoczy Kalman jr. între anii 1904 şi 1905. Este o nouă mostră a stilului secessionul de sorginte germană al lui Rimanóczy, secession münchenez, aşa-numitul Lilienstil, în cazul de faţă. În construcţia sa, pentru prima dată în Oradea, s-au folosit prefabricatele, respectiv plăci de ciment cu nervuri metalice. Beneficiază de o bogată ornamentică vegetalo-simbolistică, de o perfectă alunecare a curbelor şi de o feronerie secession foarte bine lucrată.
Moskovits Miksa Palace was built according to the plans of the architect Rimanoczy Kalman jr. Between 1904 and 1905. It is a new sample of the German secession style of Rimanóczy, secession münchenez, the so-called Lilienstil, in the present case. In its construction, for the first time in Oradea, prefabricated metal plates were used. It benefits from a rich vegetal-symbolic ornamentation, a perfect sliding curve and a very well-worked secession ironwork.

Palatul Stern este un monument realizat în stil lechnerian. Fațadele sunt decorate cu elemente florale și populare, preluate din natură, precum frunzele, trandafirii, rodia, inimile etc. Aceste motive decorative se disting și în cadrul feroneriei. În colțul clădirii se află un bovindou circular, care aduce cu un turn, deasupra căruia se află un coif format din două secțiuni suprapuse, cea de sus fiind încoronată de un fleuron.
Stern Palace is a monument built in Lechnerian style. The facades are decorated with floral and popular elements inspired by nature, such as leaves, roses, pomegranates, hearts, etc. These motifs are also distinguished in the hardware. In the corner of the building there is a circular bell, which looks like a tower, above which is a coif formed by two overlapping sections, the top being crowned by a fleuron.
Turnul Primăriei este situat în inima orașului și face parte dintr-o clădire plină de timp și istorie și care, la rândul ei, te face și pe tine martor unor timpuri noi, timpurilor tale. Pentru a vizualiza panorma orașului trebuie să urci mai multe trepte, iar pentru o imagine de ansamblu, poți privi orașul de la mai multe niveluri ale construcției. Merită efortul de a ajunge până sus, deoarece îți va oferi imagini spectaculoase.
The City Hall Tower is located in the heart of the city and is part of a building full of history, which, helps you witness new, contemporaneous times. In order to be able to enjoy the city’s skyline you have to climb several steps, and for a panoramic view you can look at the city from different levels of the building. It’s worth the effort to get up, because it will give you a spectacular view over the city.
Centrul Pietonal Corso este o zonă des circulată atât de locuitorii orașului, cât și de turiști. Diversele realizări arhitecturale în stilurile ecletic, secession, baroc și art nouveau armonizează pietonala Corso și îi atribuie acesteia un sentiment unic și distinct. Palatele care îmbracă pietonala datează de la sfârșitul secolului XIX și începutul secolului XX și marchează trecerea de la clasicism spre ecleticismul timpuriu. În prezent, majoritatea palatelor sunt restaurate și disponibile utilizării publice sau private.

The Corso Pedestrian Center
is a popular area for both city residents and tourists. The various architectural achievements in the eclectic, secession, baroque and artistic styles harmonize Corso and give it a unique and distinctive feeling. The Palaces built here date back to the late nineteenth - early twentieth centuries, and mark the transition from classicism to early eclectic style. Marian Balint Marian Balint este un tânăr muzician, pasionat de pian și vioara. Elev în clasa a XI-a, își dorește să ajungă la facultatea de muzică din Cluj, la specializarea vioară. Iar după, oriunde îl va purta muzica. În cadrul filarmonicii, ori într-o orchestră, sau poate într-un cvartet. Marian declară că cel mai mare vis a lui este să fie pace în lume, și crede că prin muzică se poate obține asta. A participat la nenumărate concursuri muzicale, unde a obținut premii, dar consideră că cea mai mare realizare urmează în viitorul său. Este pasionat și de psihologie, și crede cu tărie că muzica poate fi o terapie pentru cei în nevoie.
Marian Balint Marian Balint is a young musician, passionate about piano and violin. Student in the 11th grade, he wants to reach the music faculty in Cluj, the violin specialization. And after, wherever the music will take him. Either at the Philharmonic or in an orchestra, or in a quartet. Marian says his biggest dream is world peace and he believes that through music the world can get that. He has participated in countless musical competitions, where he has won awards, but believes that the greatest achievement will follow in the future. Raul Pașcalău Elev în clasa a X-a, Raul Pașcalău este pasionat de fotografie. Această pasiune a început văzându-și fotografiile de familie, de pe când era mic. Prin fotografie, Raul ne încurajează să vedem frumosul în orice. Este pasionat de elementele de arhitectură și de natură, dar pe lângă acestea, este atras și de apus, răsărit, valuri sau fenomenul de reflexie. Când vine vorba de a fotografia oamenii, Raul are o preferință pentru portrete. În ultima vreme, a fost atras de dubla expunere în fotografie. Pe lângă imortalizarea momentului, Raul vede frumosul în fotografie. Susține faptul că suntem în corelație cu natura.

Beniamin Dumbrăvan, viitor boboc de liceu, a ajuns în lumina reflectoarelor, în finala de la Românii au Talent, cu ajutorul pasiunii sale: beatbox-ul. Acesta ne spune că: „multă lume crede că e doar de plictiseală, dar şi beatbox-ul, într-adevăr, este o artă, ca şi pictatul, dansul sau cântatul! Planul meu de viitor este de a duce beatbox-ul la un alt nivel în ţara noastră, dar asta nu înseamnă că mă las de tot de învăţat! Aşa cum producătorii faimosului concurs Românii Au Talent mi-au recomandat: să practic în continuare pasiunea mea pe care o am şi să nu mă las niciodată, dar să nu cumva să părăsesc studiile.”

Student in the 10th grade, Raul Pașcalău is passionate about photography. This passion began by seeing family photos since he was young. Through photography, Raul encourages us to see the beauty in everything. He is passionate about architectural and nature elements, but besides, he is also attracted by sunset, sunrise, waves or reflection.
Beniamin Dumbrăvan, a future high school junior, hiut the spotlight, in finals of the competition Romania Got Talent, due to his passion: the beatbox. During the interview, the young man told us: ”a lot of people think it’s just out of boredom, but beatboxing, indeed, is art, like painting, dancing or singing!
When it comes to photographing people, Raul has a preference for portraits. Lately, he has an increased interest in double exposure photography. Besides immortalizing the moment, Raul sees the beauty in the art of photography. He strongly believes that human beings are in correlation with nature.
My plan for the future is to take the beatbox to another level in our country, but that does not mean I’m quitting schools or my studies! Just as the producers of the famous Romania Got Talent show have recommended to me: to continue to practice my passion, but not to forget about my studies.”

LA DOI PAȘI DE ORADEA / TWO STEPS AWAY FROM ORADEA
PADIȘ Locul este feeric. Verdele predominant este însoţit de petele de culoare ale florilor de pe pajiştile însorite. Albastrul cerului este acompaniat de câţiva nori albicioşi şi răzleţi. Aerul montan este o binecuvântare pentru plămânii prea obişnuiţi cu aerul poluat al oraşului. Cântecul păsărilor şi susurul apei creează o simfonie aparte. Totul îţi oferă o stare de relaxare şi pace sufletească aparte. Ţinutul magic din Bihor este o oază de linişte unde poţi merge în drumeții pe cărările bătătorite de paşii miilor de drumeți care au cutreierat pădurile munţilor Apuseni. Toată lumea a auzit de staţiunea Padiş. Cred că mulţi dintre voi aţi fost deja acolo. Poate cu cortul sau la o cabană ascunsă prin desişuri. Dacă pană acum nu ştiai ce poţi vedea dacă te hotărăşti să îţi petreci macar un weekend în acel tărâm de vis, iată că acum vin în ajutorul tău. Cel mai apropiat sat cu semnal este Pietroasa, la 22 km de urcat pe serpentine. La mijlocul distanţei se află un mic sătuc numit Boga. Chiar la intrare în sat se află o oază cu apă rece şi cristalină unde poţi avea parte de o mică bălăceală. Mai este şi o cascadă, traseul până la cascadă e uşor de parcurs. Pe drum te întâlneşti cu alţi excursionişti care te salută veseli în trei limbi diferite. Odată ajuns la Padiş poţi urca pană la Cetăţile Ponorului admirând peisajul montan. Vara, ciobanii urcă împreună cu turmele de oi sau cirezile de vaci de la care poţi cumpăra lapte şi brânză. Peştera Gheţarului de la Scărişoara şi Cheile Galbenei sunt situate aproape una de cealaltă aşa că pot fi vizitate împreună, iar traseul este unul uşor de parcurs de oricine. PADIȘ The location is enchanting. The predominant green color is accompanied by the blossoms of the flowers on the sunny meadows. The blue of the sky is completed by white clouds. Mountain air is a blessing for the lungs which are too accustomed to the polluted air of the city. The songs of the birds and the water spout create a special symphony. Everything gives you a state of relaxation and peace of mind. The magical land of Bihor is an oasis of tranquility where you can go hiking along the paths trampled by the footsteps of the thousands of hikers who roamed the forests of the Apuseni Mountains. Everyone has heard of Padiș resort. I think many of you have already been there. Maybe with a tent or a cabin hiding through the slopes. If you did not know until now, what you could see if you decided to spend at least a weekend in that dreamy realm, here I am now coming to your aid. The nearest village is Pietroasa, 22 km away from the serpentine. In the middle of the distance there is a small village called Boga. Even at the entrance to the village there is an oasis of cold and crystalline water where you can take a refreshing swim. There is also a waterfall, and the route to the waterfall is easy to go through. Along the way you will meet other excursionists who greet you cheerfully in three different languages. Once in Padiș, you can climb up to the Citadel of Ponor, admiring the mountain scenery. In summer, the shepherds climb together with sheep or herds of cows from which you can buy milk and cheese. The Scărișoara Glacier Cave and Cheile Galbenei are located close to each other so they can be visited together and the route is easy to cross by anyone. From Padiș you can easily reach Stâna de Vale or Vârtop on some amazing trails with great panoramas and landscapes. You can discover so many things here, you just have to be open for new adventures.

Mămăligă țărănească Se adaugă apa, sarea și făina de porumb. Se amestecă până când făina se dizolvă. Se pune pe foc și se aduce la fierbere. Se amestecă încet tot timpul până începe să fiarbă. Când începe să fiarbă se dă focul la mic și se lasă pe foc 30 minute. După, se învârte rapid timp de 10 minute. La servire se poate adaugă brânza sărată, și cârnăciori.

În funcție de cât de groase doriți să fie clătitele, mai adăugați făină sau lapte. Se încinge tigaia și se pune doar un strop de ulei. Clătitele se prăjesc până devin ușor arămii. Se servesc cu gem, brânză dulce de vacă, sau poate înghețată lângă.

Se taie carnea de porc cubulețe și se pune la fiert, la foc mediu, pentru 45 minute în 2 l apa rece. În tigaie se adaugă ceapa tocată fin, morcovul, țelina, pătrunjelul rădăcină și păstărnacul și ardeiul. Se călesc la foc mic. Se adaugă zarzavaturile în supă, plus condimente. Separat se fierbe orez care se adaugă după ce se amestecă ciorba cu smântână.

Cut the cubed pork and boil over medium heat for 45 minutes in 2 l of cold water. Add finely chopped onions, carrot, celery, root parsley and pepper and pepper in the frying pan. Așadar, poți cu ușurință să ajungi cu autobuzul sau cu tramvaiul aproape în orice parte a orașului. Un bilet costă 5 lei (aproximativ 1 euro) și include două călătorii. Biletele se pot cumpăra din stațiile de autobuz, fie de la casa de bilete, fie prin sistemul de ticketing de la automat. De asemenea, poți cumpăra bilete trimițând un sms la 7429 în care să menționezi numărul liniei cu care urmează să călătorești (în cazul biletului cu o călătorie) sau litera L (în cazul legitimației de o zi). Dacă dorești să faci o excursie în afara orașului, trebuie să știi că multe dintre autobuzele pentru exterior pornesc de la Autogara Intrans Velența. Bineînțeles, pentru a călători în afara orașului poți opta și pentru transportul feroviar. Biletele se pot cumpăra din gară, online (www.cfrcalatori.ro) sau de la Agenția de Voiaj CFR Oradea.
