CURS John Sutherland, Associate Dean When students spend less time around a family dinner table growing up, many of the nuances of making a solid first impression with proper dining etiquette get overlooked. It’s critical for our students to master face to face networking, dining and business etiquette for the numerous professional functions, interviews, receptions and dinners they will encounter. This is Career Services‘ tenth year hosting a business and dining etiquette dinner for our students. It has become one of the signature programs we sponsor each year and seats always quickly fill up. The event is feasible through our partnership with the Student Activities Fee Committee who helps to fund the event for our students. Each spring we have 100-120 professionally dressed students attend our three course dinner in the JSAC Ballroom to listen to a certified professional etiquette instructor coach them on the process. You can find a freshman sitting at a table with a graduating senior and a medical student, all gathered together to break bread for a common cause. We put an emphasis on keeping the students comfortable so they feel at ease to get any questions answered. In addition to dining skills, the speaker covers business professional and business casual attire, along with some key differences in international protocol. This year’s event will be on March 15th. Students can sign up through Career Services (706) 737-1604 or via email careercenter@augusta.edu to attend. Seats are reserved on a first come, first serve basis. Career Services Continued on Page 2

Update on Reese Library Since November, Reese Library has been engaged in a year-long project to renovate the heating and air conditioning system. Built in 1976, Reese Library still has the original HVAC unit, but for some time the temperature levels have been uneven and often there is an unpleasant smell in the air. While the year-long renovation project is ongoing, Reese Library and Ajax Building Corporation, the contractor, have worked together to ensure minimal disruptions to students, faculty, staff, and community visitors. Work on the third floor is wrapping up and will be released back to the Library on February 22. Work will begin soon after on moving the books back to their permanent locations, with signage available to reflect correct locations as this process is occurring. An exciting addition to the third floor is a new student study area located by windows. The wall that had been erected to create a room for the Pilgrim Papers was removed as part of the renovation process. The Pilgrim Papers have been relocated, providing an inviting space for student studying. The group study rooms will be worked on first and will be unavailable for two weeks, after which a wall will be erected to make the group study rooms available for use, while blocking off the rest of the construction area.
